Witness was told Williams and Ian Johnson shared 'saucy' texts

We’re now hearing from Natalie Chapman, a work colleague of Sarah Williams who says she had “very strong feelings” for Ian Johnston.

She recounts one Facebook message she sent her where she said “I’m smiling like someone who’s mentally ill’ after she saw a picture of him wearing a top she had bought him.

She says Sarah Williams had got a set of keys cut for Ian Johnston’s old house.

Miss Chapman says Miss Williams told her on one occasion she went round to Ian’s house and let herself in but had to leave as the alarm had gone off.

She also says Sarah WIlliams once said she “wasn’t going to wash” after she spoke to Ian in a pub car park where she had been waiting for him and he touched her arm.

Miss Chapman says she was told Sarah and Ian were texting each other and some of them were “saucy” and involving photographs.

What Williams said to witness the day after Sadie's death

Miss Chapman adds that after Ian and Sadie were burgled in August 2015 Sarah Williams said she would have to find out the registrations of their new cars so she knew when they were in the car park.

She says she spoke to Sarah WIlliams the day after Sadie Hartley died and she told her she and Ian were going to arrange to meet up.

When Miss Chapman, who was unaware of her death, asked Sarah if Mr Johnston had broken up with Sadie she says Miss Williams told her “he’s just going to have to deal with that himself.”

Defendants rarely making eye contact

Sarah Williams, 34 and co-defendant Katrina Walsh, 56, both from Chester, are sat at opposite ends of the dock, separated by a security guard and rarely making eye contact.

Miss Williams, dressed in a bight pink top underneath a suit jacket and trousers, has a folder and is making notes throughout the evidence.

Mrs Walsh, who has a bandana covering her head, is also making notes.

She barged past him, sat on the sofa and started to cry'

Sarah Williams, 34 and co-defendant Katrina Walsh, 56, both from Chester are sat at opposite ends of the dock, separated by a security guard and rarely making eye contact.

Miss Williams, dressed in a bight pink top underneath a suit jacket and trousers, has a folder and is making notes throughout the evidence.

Mrs Walsh, who has a bandanna covering her head, is also making notes.

Miss Chapman recounts a story Miss Williams told her about going round to Ian Johnston’s house to see him.

She says Miss Williams said Ian wouldn’t let her in “so she barged past him, sat on the sofa and started to cry.”

She says Miss Williams told her that Ian eventually had to leave and that she got undressed and went to wait in his bed for him naked.

The court has now been adjourned for a short break.

Williams' work colleague is next witness

The next witness is Naomi Cowley who worked at Crystal Ski Holidays, based in the Chill Factore building, with Sarah WIlliams.

She says she doesn’t think Sarah was in a relationship with Ian Johnston in November 2014. However she says in winter she believes she was in a relationship with David Hardwick at the end of 2015.

She talks about a Christmas party in December last year.

She says: “After that she talked about Ian a lot more. She seemed to think the relationship was progressing and there had been more contact.”

She adds that Sarah had told her relationship with Ian would be “going forward” after he returned from his skiing holiday in January this year.

Witness: Williams 'got flustered and excited' if Ian Johnson was around

Miss Cowley also says Sarah told her she bought a new dress to “make the best impression on Ian” that she could at a funeral for a mutual friend which they would both be attending in the summer of 2015.

We’re now hearing from another of Sarah’s work colleagues at Crystal Ski Holidays, Nicola Botham. She says even after Sarah and Ian Johnston’s earlier relationship ended “it seemed like she was in love with him.”

She says Sarah got “flustered and excited” if he was around at the Chill Factore and she would try and find him.

Miss Botham says Sarah had told her and her colleagues that Ian had blocked her number.

However she says they were told after the funeral contact resumed again with Miss Williams “very excited” about this.

“On one occasion she said they were exchanging dirty texts” Miss Botham adds.

Witness: Williams confident relationship with Mr Johnston would move forward

Miss Botham says Sarah became increasingly confident her relationship with Ian would move forward.
She says she told her about one text where Ian had said to her “are we going to do this?”
Sarah said she told her they were going to discuss their future when he got back from the Switzerland trip in January.
The court is read a Facebook chat involving Miss Williams and Miss Botham in which Sarah said of Ian “Oh he’s so manly.”

Williams' 'sickness' was "part of her alibi", said prosecution

Nicola Botham says on 14th January this year, the day Sadie Hartley died, Sarah Williams said she felt ill and kept disappearing to the toilet in the office, saying she had been sick. She was later sent home by her manager.

The prosecution have earlier alleged that this was “part of her alibi” for the murder. Miss Botham says she saw Sarah Williams the following day and “she told me she was feeling much better as she had gone home and slept it off.”
