Good!

In my country, Poland,
since 2010,
there has been a legal ban on corporal punishment of children,
including spanking.

The prohibition against beating children is absolute.

As the inimitable Rumple of the Baily reminds us, "A barrister, my dear sir, is a taxi plying for hire. That is the fine tradition of our trade."

A defence barrister argues a case, to the best of ability. That barrister may love, loathe, sympathise with or be utterly repelled by a client, or be largely indifferent to them.

I would be astonished if solicitors or barristers involved with the defence feel anything but horror with respect to the facts of this case. That they are still able to proceed professionally should not be taken lightly, IMO.

Disclosure -- child of a barrister QC and judge, who lost plenty of sleep and was profoundly conflicted over some clients.
Thank you for your disclosure. It is a comfort to know that the men and women whom work within our court systems and whom project a professional manner of not allowing emotions enter into decisions in law so as not to interfere with the scales of justice , are carrying the same emotions as ourselves when it comes to certain cases .I unfortunately had the view that they become immune to feeling because they hear it so often . Your post has changed my perspective thank you

Was there not a court day today? There is nothing on BBC News...

Also, I cant get my head around the bite and suction bruise mark on the child's inner thigh. It has been reported that the dental marks were not that of the father or uncle. So that leaves the other siblings OR the stepmum in the house. I think it is stepmum - but why bite and suck there?! I loathe to say this but was the stepmum abusing Sara in other ways? IMOO

Is this going to be put to her when questioning?

The three of them CANNOT be allowed to just sit there like all they have done is "discipline" a child!!! They should face the extent of how they tortured a little child!

The world should see how evil they are - so that in future people dont think twice about calling the police or NSPCC and raise alarms when it comes to protecting children - even if there is a fraction of a doubt.
IMO

I live in Surrey so this is too close to home... we as a community, sadly, chose to be blind. I am reminded of a proverb - "It takes a village to raise a child" - i.e., an entire community of people must provide for and interact positively with children for those children to experience and grow in a safe and healthy environment. We didn't provide this for Sara.
I'm finding it difficult to comprehend the positioning of the bite and suction mark on the inner thigh. It seems an unusual place for a bite in a physical beating . Most cases injuries at this site indicate sexual violence .

I'm still not sure I rule out sexual violence in this case I know it has not been mentioned thus far . How long does evidence of semen last . Obviously the hymen would be broken but can forensics tell after a child has been dead for a while Did msm report if post mortem stated injury to pelvic area .

Is the dad and uncle true brothers . The children's granddad doesn't speak about the uncle only urfan. Are they brother in law though prehaps the marriage to urfans sister I wonder .

I was just curious about marriage law etc in Pakistan ( it is 16 for girl 18 for boy )and what is the punishment for underage marriage or sexual assault of a minor .I came across this article from 2016 . Interesting read .
Please don't think I'm being racist or bigoted. Pakistan and Muslim peoples have different customs and culture to mine and I wanted to learn a little regarding marriage as I knew dating was rare as sex before marriage is prohibited. So in order for girls not to bring shame they are sometimes betrothed when menstruation begins usually in poverty stricken families. Here is the article if anyone is interested

Incest is also punishable and prohibited by Islam.

I suspect that there are restrictions put on Media reports today.
For whatever reason.
(Might be sensitive content or a minor giving evidence)

It started on Friday IMO.
The Independent didn't even write the trial sitting ended at specific time that day
but put former reports and photos when it was still early.

Usually it is said that on Monday or another day Court is not sitting.

But it is only JMO
This is from The Law Pages for Court 5 today. The hearing was due to resume at 11:10 this morning and nothing has been reported, so I think reporting restrictions have been imposed.Screenshot_20241021_203613_Chrome~2.jpg

Yep.
That is what I thought.
The same situation was in Lucy L. trial,
when Jurors were giving partial verdicts.

Total Media blackout/silence.

Did msm report if post mortem stated injury to pelvic area
I'm pretty sure that was mentioned but merely searching this thread didn't come up with anything. I assumed more in the sense of shattered/broken pelvic area due to the beatings. As somebody wrote a few days ago on here, those three broke Sara, literally.

One would have to read thru all the linked reports to find out if this injury did exist, to find an actual quote.

I certainly have a very 'ewww' feeling about the positioning of the bite, especially if that's where the suction mark is too (there were bites on Sara's arm as well, idk where the suctioning was). Especially if the bite is on the inner thigh (i don't know if it is), then stepmum's head and face would have been very close into Sara's genital area. I don't like that image at all.
JMO

Sexual abuse of children is most often committed by males, but I do know that it is certainly sometimes committed by females including the mother, so not just random females. Just to reiterate, I know that Sara's bio mother was not involved!
From the US: Women who sexually abuse children - PubMed
and a detailed scientific study in English but mostly about Germany: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0145213421001411
These are not about Sara's case at all, but they show evidence of the existence of sexual abuse of minors by women.

Abuse by a woman wouldn't leave any semen. Tho maybe injuries left would still be enough for the autopsy to conclude (probable) sexual abuse?

Could be reporting restrictions, could also be that all the Press at the Old Bailey today have been preoccupied with the Martin Blake / Chris Kaba case.

in response to :

Trying to find a mention of pelvic injury before my post above gets legs.
So far come across some injuries or description thereof which I don't remember e.g. "Pathologist Dr Nathaniel Cary, who conducted the post-mortem, told the court Sara had a ... as well as signs of being hit by an elongated object below her belly button." Apart from causing internal injuries, that could presumably shatter pelvic bones?
from Sara Sharif: Girl, 10, had more than 70 injuries, court hears

In multiple reports, there is mention of spine injuries in 11 places, tho the exact place isn't mentioned, so we can't conclude that Sara's pelvic area was shattered. MOO IMO JMO Especially since I haven't found any msm mention of pelvic injuries (or for that matter non-msm). @su5ie you wondered about pelvic injuries due to possible sexual abuse, not due to physical. Anyway, that's what my search brought up.

The Law Pages posted this same note each day last week, even when The Independent were doing their live blog.

I think this is more likely.

Yes-and Courtserve have included this notice every day. Which I think indicates hat at some stage in the trial there will be restrictions on reporting wrt minors. Which could be as straightforward as a ban on naming the other children in the family. I don't think it has to mean they are witnesses in court. Any social services material about the children will also be under restriction.

Thanks!
I noticed that Independent MSM is for subscribers.
But it seems
they made the exception for this trial.
And provide for the public for free in this case.

Of course,
this is only MO
as I'm not acquainted with British Press and its subscription very well.

Trial resumes

The trial of Urfan Sharif, Beinash Batool and Faisal Malik has resumed at the Old Bailey.
Jurors are due to hear from a neighbour who lived next to the family in West Byfleet.

Sara was allegedly ‘shouted’ at and would carry out chores

A neighbour has told the Old Bailey that she witnessed Beinash Batool shouting at Sara while she lived below them.
'I would hear the stepmother shout at Sara', Rebecca S. said.
When asked by the prosecutor how she could tell it was Sara, she responded:
'She shouted her name'.

She added that she had also seen the 10-year-old,
then aged about six,
carry out chores such as taking items down to the bin.

During this period, Urfan Sharif worked as a taxi driver while Batool remained home.

Neighbour heard doors ‘rattling’ as if someone was ‘locked in a bedroom’

A neighbour who lived above the Sharif family in 2018 and 2019 at a maisonette in West Byfleet has told jurors that she had heard Beinash Batool 'screaming' and a door 'rattling'.

Appearing behind a screen, Rebecca S. said her first impression of the noise the family created was
'just crying and then rattling of doors and a lot of door slamming, also the stepmother screaming'.

She described frequently hearing the sound of a door rattling at all hours, often after Batool had 'lost her temper'.

'The family were never quiet when it came to closing doors
but it almost seemed like they’d been locked in a bedroom, that constant rattling of a door.
Trying to get it open',
she said.

Neighbour had ‘door shut in my face’ when she asked about the noise

Rebecca S. told jurors she had occasionally heard
a 'thwack' coming from the flat,
and had on one occasion asked Beinash Batool if all was well.

'On one occasion it was fever pitch.
I said is everything okay in here and they said,
'yes, yes' and the door was shut in my face.
This was the stepmother.

'It had gone on for a long time,
I was just getting to the end of my tether.

General constant screaming and crying and banging',
she said.

When she moved from the property,
she warned the incoming tenant that they were a 'nightmare' family with the noise.

Beinash Batool heard swearing and ‘effing’ in flat

Recalling her experience of living above Sara Sharif’s family, Rebecca S. said
she heard Beinash Batool swearing at the children,
using "not very nice words”.

When asked what specific words, she said:
“Just effing and not words you would expect to be heard spoken to children".

"I wouldn’t like to define it
but in my head I’m thinking f.....g b*****ds”.

She recalled a garden party held in the communal areas in which the Sharif family attended,
where Sara joined in the games.

“Sara was a lovely girl,
she was taking part in the games with all of them,
she spent most of her time chatting with me
rather than playing with the other children.

Court adjourns for lunch

and will resume at 2pm."

"Effing" is a new word in my English vocabulary.
But I'm not sure I will ever use it in my conversational English
