Taxi driver admits parenting of Sara was ‘very bad'

Opening his questioning, Mr Emlyn-Jones KC began with a series of questioning about Sharif’s method of “disciplining” his children.
“You accept your parenting of Sara was impatient?” he said. “I don’t have the words to describe it,” he said.
“Unkind?,” he asked. “Yes sir.”
“Was it cruel?”, to which he agreed again.
“And it was violent?,” the prosecutor asked to which the taxi driver responded: “I’m not sure about that.”
“You’re not accepting your parenting of Sara was violent?” he was asked.
He subsequently responded his treatment of his daughter “was very bad”.

He [Michael Ivers KC, for Malik] said: “What are the chances that two children you are connected with ended up with burns from a domestic iron and bite marks?”

Sharif replied: “I was not blamed for that. It wasn’t me. I did not bite.”

Mr Ivers asserted: “Of course it’s not a coincidence, you are the common denominator.

“Did you tell someone to do so? Did you have an idea how she (Sara) should be punished? Is that the truth of all of this?”

Sharif replied: “There are certain things I can’t explain. I’ve got no words.”

Mr Ivers responded: “Can you try and think of a few?”

The defendant said: “I didn’t do it, sir.”

[...]

Mr Ivers said: “The oath you took on your holy book meant nothing. Your jury walked by you for a whole week, looked at you and you looked at them, didn’t you? And when you started crying at times, was it real or not? When your eyes went wide, was it an act?”

Sharif said: “It was real. I lost my daughter.”

I have thought about the bites a lot over the past few days and the suspicion that the person who bit Sara was directed to by U has been in my head a lot. Interesting that it is the uncle's barrister raising this.

Sharif says he has been ‘selfish’ blaming Batool for Sara’s death

Urfan Sharif has admitted that he was the “bad one” in the family, and claimed that Beinash Batool had attempted to stop him “many times”.
When asked about his dramatic change in position on Wednesday, which saw him take “full responsibility” for what had happened to Sara, Sharif responded: “I’ve been selfish blaming other people for something they didn’t do.”
In a tense exchange, Mr Emlyn-Jones said: “You started off trying to save yourself, you literally tried to get away with murder didn’t you?”

He responded: “The death of Sara yes.”
“It’s important for you to emphasise the death of Sara, you don’t like the word murder do you? You are still trying to get away with murder, aren’t you?” Mr Emlyn-Jones said.
“Because I didn’t want to kill her, I did not want to harm her,” Sharif responded.

So hitting her with a bat isn’t harming her? What a crock of sh-it!

" 'I have no credibility',

admits Sara Sharif's father

after spending six days telling the jury

that his wife was to blame for the 10-year-old girl's death.

'And when you started crying at times,
was it real or not?'
Mr Ivers said.

'It is real sir.
I lost my daughter,
you can't question that pain,'
Urfan replied.

'It wasn't about that pain,
it was about you seeking to deceive everyone in this room,'
Mr Ivers said.

Malik, at 14 years Sharif’s junior, looked up to his older brother and neither of them were brought up with strict discipline, the court was told.

Their father was an army sergeant but he was a “kind and fairly sensitive man”, Mr Ivers said.

Cross-examining for the prosecution, William Emlyn Jones KC asserted Sara was beaten in front of Batool many times and all three adults in the house involved in childcare.

Referring to Sharif’s confession, Mr Emlyn Jones said: “You went through something of a dramatic change of your account yesterday morning.

“There are still things you are concealing from this jury. You started off and spent six days trying to save yourself, literally trying to get away with murder, didn’t you? You are still trying to get away with murder.

“Now is it your purpose to say ‘it’s all on me’? Now you think your first plan isn’t going very well I might as well cut my losses, at least I can try to save the others.

“You certainly want to save Faisal, your brother, because that would be the right thing to do, to stand by your family?”

Sharif said he had been “selfish” before but denied it was murder, saying: “I did not want to kill her. I didn’t want to harm her.”

Sharif, Batool, and Malik, formerly of Hammond Road, Woking, Surrey, deny murder and causing or allowing Sara’s death and the trial continues.

I suggested this up thread and it's my opinion he coerced bienish into doing it so she was implicated in the abuse

It's been explained to him since his meltdown on Wednesday morning what constitutes murder under English law. It isn't just intent to kill. Intent to harm and the victim subsequently dying is still murder. So now he has to try and deny what he admitted on Wednesday morning in order to still try to get off the murder charge.

Repeating his statement from yesterday, Sharif admitted: “She died because of me because I hit her.”
While being questioned by the prosecution, the 42-year-old backtracked on his admission yesterday that he had hit her repeatedly with a cricket bat, and said it had only occurred once.
However, he said he had hit her a “few times” on this occasions, and had previously beaten her with a metal pole.
“I have been nasty, I had been mean with my daughter,” he said.

He didn't lose his daughter He discarded the physical, emotional and mental well-being of Sara he is responsible for her death not a tragic accident or terminal illness

I agree with you.

I think he's changing his story so much in an effort to confuse the jury. Hopefully they will be able to see that he and B are as guilty as each other.

I'm not implying she is innocent at all . Only that I think she was a victim of dv and coercive control
When I watched the video of urfan and bienash that was recorded in Pakistan I could tell she was a victim of domestic abuse .it the subtle signs him slightly behind her body splayed he is asserting male dominance. He is watching what she says not listening to it . He is putting her forward for judgement. While he remains quiet so he can proclaim upset . He is in control it can be read from his body language and mannerisms.

How low will you stoop?’ Sharif asked

Jurors have been reminded of the harrowing nature of Sara Sharif’s injuries, which includes a large burn caused by a domestic iron across her buttocks and scald marks after boiling water was poured over her feet.
“To do that to Sara to press and hold an iron across both of her buttocks, would it take two people to do that?,” Mr Emlyn-Jones KC said. “I don’t know sir.”
“Would someone have to hold her down, would someone have to restrain her? There’s no sign of her wriggling around while being branded by an iron. So who was it?”, the prosecutor pressed.
“It must have been kids,” he responded.
“How low will you stoop? An injury that will have caused her dreadful lasting pain that was still unhealed, open and gaping when she died. An injury said to have been at least two weeks old, at least two to six weeks or more, made worse by the fact she was being made to wear a dirty nappy contaminated with urine and faeces,” Mr Emlyn-Jones said.
He repeated Sharif’s admission that he had kicked Sara into the bath, meaning he would have seen evidence of the burn.

It just gets more harrowing as each bit of new evidence comes to light

It's a horrible thought to have but I think I agree with your opinion right now.

he could not be controlling her if he was not even there. Not just that I was a victim of domestic violence. I would not have sat there sending photos of the childrens injuries to my family. I would have gone straight to the cops. Incidentally we know neighbours have said SHE abused them when he was at work- where he would be for hours. Have they said he shouted at her at all?
