UK - Scarlett Vickers (14) stabbed to death at home in Darlington. Parents charged with murder (5 July '24)

I hope
this criminal will get some "anger management" therapies in prison.

Because,
leaving prison at barely 65,
he will still be... ummm... strong enough to swing a knife at some poor individuals with tragic consequences.

"Flashes of anger" might even increase after incarceration
considering stress level experienced in prison.

Just saying...

Rest in Peace Scarlett.
You didn't deserve this fate :(
You were at home after all.
But, unfortunately, it wasn't
"Home, sweet Home".

During outline of mitigating factors.
"I am also not sure there was an intention to kill" (quote) but is satisfied intention to cause grevious harm meeting the legal standard (paraphrase).

Other mitigating factors; Accepts Simon Victor's was immediately devastated, is a broken man, will live with the consequences for the rest of his life, tried to help Scarlett. Judge "I can only assume this was a flash of anger".

Just my opinion; I'm glad judge took into account mitigating factors in sentencing and showed some compassion where due for Simon Vickers. Scarlett's death is a terrible, terrible, tragedy. RIP Scarlett.

Scarlett's aunt Rebecca Hall, 42, revealed her heartbroken sister Sarah, Simon's parents Pat and Barry and the entire family were looking at grounds to appeal, convinced of his innocence.

"My sister would not defend a man doing that deliberately to her daughter," said mum of two Rebecca, of Newton Aycliffe, Co Durham. "Everyone who knows Simon, his family, friends, work colleagues, know he would not have intentionally killed his daughter.

"People draw their own conclusions but they do not know him. I am sure Scarlett would have called him worse than 'wimp' in her time. He would not stab his daughter just because she called him that.

"I have been going through the grounds for appeal and we think it may be classed as an unfair trial. It could have been an accident. He said he caused her death; in my eyes a man guilty of murder would not have said that, he just did not know how it happened.

"I have known him since I was 14. I know he would not do this deliberately, he loved Scarlett to bits. She was always running at him and jumping on him. I don't think he picked up the knife; I think she may have run into it."

So it's her fault. She basically murdered herself, and now her poor loving daddy is suffering unfairly.

Sickening.

That poor kid. Where are the people advocating for her, telling us how unfairly she suffered?

She has been let down by many IMO. Poor girl.

Her dad is just so so unlucky that he got two convictions for attacking someone with a knife

No in my opinion. He accepts culpability for causing her death per the trial and per the Judge at sentencing. He was described as a broken man by the judge. The judge accepted his devastation as genuine. The judge found he accepted he was responsible for Scarlett's death, but the jury concluded he lied about what happened. The judge found that he must know what really happened. He made confused and contradictory statements in the immediate aftermath and after his arrest. Jmo

I'm talking about the aunt twisting reality so hard that in her version he's not even holding the knife and she somehow ran onto it.

"Scarlett Vickers' family hold

'crime scene reconstruction'

to clear 'play fight' dad.

The family plan to appeal Simon Vickers' 15 year minimum sentence for murdering his only child.

Sarah's sister Rebecca Hall
revealed that she had been trying to understand what happened in the lead up to Scarlett's death
and
reconstructing the incident at her own home.

'I have been doing it in the kitchen
and looking at how the knife could have moved',
she said.
'If it was quick when Scarlett was going towards the knife as Simon swiped it and the tongs
then it is possible that could have caused the injury.
I have looked at the biology of it too

and the tissue where the knife went in is very, very soft.
There could have been enough force to go into the heart'.

'Scarlett could have been in a position where she was standing over the knife.

If Simon had his hand on the knife on the chopping board
then I think could have gone forward and leant into it.

He is uncertain himself how it happened but he remembered getting the tongs

and I think that he has put his hand down on the knife and swiped it along the kitchen surface'.

'If she darted towards it to grab it,
that is how it could have happened.
If she had her head down and leant forward,
it is possible the knife would have gone into her ribs.
They were messing around,
there was no aggression.

She did not say anything like
'dad has a knife' or 'he is going to hurt me'.
Surely she would have said something beforehand?' "

Like I said. She's tying herself in knots to make this Scarlett's fault.

A firm knife strike that left bruising from the hilt at the entrance of the wound wasn't lying on a counter while Scarlett somehow hovered or contorted over it. It was in someone's hand, gripped tightly and steadily.

'Simon Vickers

could have had a much shorter sentence if he had accepted a plea deal,

a source has revealed.

A Dad found guilty of murdering his 14-year-old daughter
turned down a plea deal that could have significantly reduced his prison sentence."

A CPS spokesperson said: “We dispute this version of events.” The CPS spokesman added that Mr Vickers was not told that prosecutors would have accepted a plea, “as that would have been entirely dependent on the basis on which such a plea was made”.

"That sentence has now been referred to the Attorney General's Unduly Lenient Sentencing Scheme (ULS) scheme. Under the scheme, victims of crime, members of the public, and the Crown Prosecution Service can ask for certain crown court sentences to be reviewed if they believe they are too lenient.

The Attorney General's Office then has 28 days, from the date the original sentence was passed, to decide whether the sentence should be referred to the Court of Appeal to be reviewed." [...]
