At least four people have been killed by falling trees and debris as Storm Eunice continues to batter the UK with winds of up to 122mph - causing widespread damage and travel chaos for millions across the country.

A man in his 50s died in Netherton, Merseyside, after debris struck the windscreen of a vehicle he was travelling in, making him the fourth known victim of the storm.

Merseyside Police said the unnamed man was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver of the vehicle was not injured. The family has been informed.

It comes after the third victim was confirmed tonight as a woman in her 30s, who was crushed by a tree at around 4pm Friday while being driven in car by a man, also in his 30s, on Muswell Hill Road in Haringey, north London.

Metropolitan Police said the driver was taken to hospital, where his condition is not believed to be life-threatening.

A man in his early 60s became the first known victim when he was killed by a falling tree in County Wexford in the Republic of Ireland while out working to clear trees.

The second victim, a motorist, is believed to have been killed when a large tree fell and crushed a vehicle in the market town of Alton, Hampshire, this afternoon.

More than 165,000 Britons were left without power on Friday after England was hit by the strongest winds on record which saw the roof of The O2 ripped apart, lorries blo

Hope your wine was delivered. You have plenty of drinking time before national wine day as it is not until May 25th.

It did arrive thankfully. That was my local spar shop delivery app notification that told me it was national wine day, swines obviously just wanted my cash :D:D:D

All is fairly calm here again, didn't really come to much. We're surrounded by trees including just roughly 20 metres away a 400 odd year old, at least twice as tall as the house beautiful but falling apart oak tree.

A silver birch has grown up between a y but on another tree, oh my god, the squeaking!!! I was tempted to go out with some vaseline.

I most definitely didn't but I'm just marking them on the calender now for next year :D

I'm sorry for corrupting the weather thread guys.

I hope you are all safe and well and no more lives lost.

Tree surgeons all of the shop in my area - a lot of stuff coming down on the roads. Basically a handy gang of chainsaw wielders with a police escort from what I've heard!

Our council is great in hard times to be fair, they do pay farmers to get stuck in and help clear roads etc. But we have resilient communities set up to go asap, been literal lifesavers over the last few years.

Though, that big storm at xmas, we had a roughly 2ft diameter branch hanging off by a thread over the parking area/school kids walk, took til two weeks ago for the council to come get it down. Bits hanging off again tonight.

Thank you. A little worried about her.

Hope things are okay for your sister.

I'm about 40 miles north of Cambridge, but it turned out okay here. Not as strong as I feared. Unlike the '87 storm there wasn't as much rain, which I do remember badly affecting the Huntingdon and Cambridge areas as I was travelling to Cambridge daily during the week of that storm.

Rail services were affected by fallen trees near Stockport

''Commuters are being advised to check timetables before travel as rail operators fix damage from Storm Eunice.

Overhead lines were torn down by fallen trees near Stockport on Friday, Network Rail said.

West Coast main line services have also been affected after the temporary closure of Preston railway station, where roofing became loose.

Dave Penney, from Network Rail, said "the scale of the damage in some areas will take some time to fix".

Travel services were disrupted after one of the worst storms in 30 years, with hundreds of trees blown onto tracks across the country in the past few days.''

Thank you for the information. I did talk to her yesterday after she settled in. She said the same as you: not as much damage as other areas of the country. She still has a food delivery service that she's had for about a year so she won't starve!
