Does anybody have a photo of the POW back in the mid 80’s?

I have seen one photo and the diary and cheque book left on the steps of the pub if this was the layout makes zero sense.

Punters would of been tripping over the items leaving and entering the premises.


So wondering if the pub looked like this in 1986 as it does raise more questions on how the stuff was found.

I was literally just reading that as well.

I was Born later that year in 86 down the road in Wimbledon so I literally have zero idea what it was like back then. But Suzy seems pretty typical of her Age group back then from all accounts.

I guess people were a lot more judgmental about women which is why Suzy wasn’t forthcoming about her dating life but when you go missing and end up murdered it just muddies the water when your mother wants to cover up anything she considers damaging.


It boggles my mind a mother would put her reputation above finding her daughter but I guess it was just a complete different time and she didn’t want people thinking ill of her daughter.

Did I read that the Crocodile Tears was a basement bar?

If so it would make it hard for anyone to see into the street. Then again, estate agents are fond of saying basement flats overlook this that or the other, even though you can't really overlook somewhere from underneath it. So maybe the basement - sorry, the "lower ground floor" - of the CT overlooked the office in that sense...

A Google image search for Crocodile tears under images shows the bar from outside. It had canopied sunshades and tables and chairs outside. Clicking the image will take you to a blog so link cant be posted here but it also describes the bar as having a trendy wine bar on the ground floor and spiral staircase which leads down to a eating place in the basement.

What are your opinions on a year later CV claiming there was two mystery phone calls that were asking for Suzy.


1) Did it happen?
2) did CV give the detectives a piece of paper at the time with the details on?
3) who would of made the phone calls if they did happen?
4) why if it’s BS would CV make up stories like this?
5) could it of been Suzy herself hoping that somebody would understand that she needed help?



ETA - I’m baffled by these so called phone calls and nothing I can think of makes sense. I do t understand why CV would lie over something like this as it just puts him under suspicion and it’s such a weird thing to lie about.
But at the same time who knew she was heading to the POW as well that day .

A Google street walk going back as far as you can 2008 if you turn right ito Chesilton Road there are 2 public telephone boxes she could have wanted to make a private tel call.

MORE INTERESTING is that almost opposite the phone boxes is a turning into Rostrevor Mews a narrow road that gives access to the the properties that front Fulham Rd (Crocodile Tears?) its almost certain that the properties/shops fronting Fulham Rd had a back entrance.
If someone wanted to enter the bar discreetly it would be possible using the mews rd, but equally if someone wanted to exit the bar via the back entrance to be picked up it would be out of sight of Sturgis Office staff and possibly the people you are having lunch with.
Was her car parked in Rostrevor Mews?

This is a thought provoker, it certainly would be interesting if SJL’s car was parked here.

This would have been to give them the bad news that she’s decided to pull out and set up with her new rich man.
It’s possible that this rich man advised her against going into business with them.
I really can’t see why CV would make up these calls, it’s also possible the callers were her proposed business partners.

There are two possible reasons I think. One would be that in 1986 he knew nothing about what the police thought had happened, whereas by 1987 he knew they thought she met a Mr Kipper. The other is that by 1987 the police knew she can't have been coming over at 6 and just didn't turn up.

He therefore needed to have been at the pub all day taking those calls (so he's not Mr Kipper or James Galway), and to muddy the waters about when she was coming by introducing callers who thought she should be there by now (so he could say he had never thought she was coming at 6). He needed this backdated to a year ago as though this was what he had always said. So he claimed to have done so.

Other explanations are possible, including that he's telling the truth and has muddled a few details, but the above might explain this if he is a wrong 'un.

Have you looked at the Guardian link a few pages back? DL comes across as completely unhinged. It's worth a read. All the nonsense in the case seems to have originated with her. She even made up some nonsense about Israeli intelligence and about the police officer in charge having been shot while in MI6. It was complete fiction from out of her crazy head.
