ND . His testimony claimed he saw a blonde female with a smartly dressed man outside the property. The man was holding a bottle of champagne with ribbons. This was a known seduction tactic used by JC, although this was many years before JC became a suspect.

I need to check the AS book again to confirm this but this testimony has been included in most SL docs I have seen.

Yeah, it was ND who mentioned the champagne (page 76), and he also mentioned that the woman he saw had lighter hair than Suzy had in the photos that were being circulated of her, which was interesting because Suzy’s hair had been highlighted shortly before she went missing. But he also said his sighting could’ve occurred at any point between noon and 4pm.

The other ND (page 74) thought he saw a woman standing in the gateway of 37SR at around 12.50 but despite taking little notice of her at the time - “because he was in a hurry” - he apparently later felt “in little doubt that the woman was Susannah Lamplugh.”

I was wondering if AS is still around - how old would he be? It would be so great if someone could talk to him and get his take on this 40 years later. He must know so much he cannot say.

Mmm you would think he would be getting up there in age for sure. I wonder if he is under some sort of NDA even after all this time?

Apparently there was alot of tabloid fodder at the time about SJL love life and the controversy around the books contents? (re reading from thread 1 and some comments from a Henry B (who is no longer active by the looks).
Are these articles online would anyone know?



Prior to publication of The Suzy Lamplugh Story in 1988, written with access to the police investigation and Suzy’s larger, more detailed, diaries there was fevered tabloid speculation about her ‘lifestyle’ - Faber & Faber rejected an offer of £250K from the News of the World for the serialisation rights. Having seen a draft, Diana Lamplugh took legal action to prevent it being published. When this failed, the author refusing to budge, she dissociated herself from it. But the disclosures in the book were only the tip of the iceberg. Amidst the controversy, the managing director of Faber & Faber maintained the author had actually been very responsible: - “He has left out some incredibly difficult stuff - material that would have been better suited to, let’s say, the News of the World than Faber & Faber.”

“Paul and Diana, however, engaged Carter-Ruck and targeted with legal threats anyone who dared to print stories they didn’t like, hounding them with complaints and menacing them with the promise of hostile court action unless they withdrew them. More than that, during our research, we had discovered that Paul and Diana Lamplugh had also made a number of Suzy’s boyfriends sign non-disclosure agreements, legally gagging them to prevent them from speaking about the intimate details of their relationships with Suzy to anyone.”

They were fiercely controlling of the narrative which is understandable to an extent but I can’t think of another case where the victim’s family has guided, possibly even decided, the outcome of a police investigation. JMO, SL’s parents come across as well meaning but a bit of a nuisance - yet almost from day one the police appear happy to kowtow to them. It’s bizarre.

I also cannot understand how PSS and TSS have not said one word in nearly 40 years. Surely there is something odd about that - other than they did not want their business dealings probed. I have tried googling but i get nothing. Is she still some sort of media celebrity? (to which i can find nothing online).

in the 1980s many men would charm the ladies with flowers and champagne, so its not really a unique MO.

“The wedding of the Duke and Duchess of York had been just five days before, and local branches of Peter Dominic, a wine and spirits chain, were selling decorated champagne bottles as a special promotion — so it seemed quite possible that what Doyle had told them was correct. Police scoured all the shops selling such champagne bottles, but no one remembered any customer fitting the descriptions. Had the man invited Susannah somewhere to drink the champagne with him, perhaps after they had looked over the house? If so, where? For two days Special Patrol Group officers had visited every type of wine bar, restaurant and pub in the area, but still could find no one who had seen a couple matching the descriptions.”

something else i thought about. noel devere said he seen SL standing in the doorway of 37SR as if she was waiting for someone. if ND was making up the story he would have said a man was with her/mr kipper, but he did not include a man, and SL was known to arrive 5 to 10 mins early to meet a client when she had a viewing. ND would not know this info, just like he did not know SL had blonde highlights in her hair on the friday before she disappeared.

The only thing I can find is this Dept of the Uni of Texas, who were gifted Brookner's notebooks.

The AS book notes ( for her review?) are listed under the Notebook 'Fraud' 1992. Scroll to see listings.

Maybe a request to the Library? Not sure how accessible they are.
