Godspeed, London

How many times do I have to say this?
How many tears do we have to cry?
How many innocent people have we to bury?
How can humans be so cruel, empty, full of evil & hate, all the while holding hands with the devil himself?

NO MORE!
NO MORE!!
NO MORE!!!

Question - if the suicide vests were fake, what were the police detonating? I had assumed it was explosives attached to the vests but that couldn't be if they were fake. Have I missed something?

I believe, though am open to being told I'm wrong, that the police/bomb squad use a small charge to trigger what they believe to be the bomber's larger charge.

Well they do controlled explosions on packages etc which they think might be bombs but usually turn out to be nothing. So I'd guess it was the same here?

They performed controlled explosions on the devices.

When I heard about this last night, the first place I came was Websleuths. I don't really have anything meaningful to contribute, but I feel really, really sad about this, and about everything that has happened and being with you gives me comfort, like being with family in a time of emotional trouble. Thanks, guys. Sending lots of love to everyone hurting right now.

Thanks Sarahlou and Ironside. Didn't think about it that way.

I suspect that after the impressive response of the Metropolitan Police leading to the neutralisation of the terrorists within 8 minutes, that response will be studied closely by other governments and much of the approach adopted quite widely. Paris and Brussels, in particular, should probably take a very close look.

Indeed I am gobsmacked by how efficient the met were last night. Absolute heros.

Indeed. And that's without the SAS dropping in by chopper.

At the time of posting the death toll stands at 7. It may yet increase, and no doubt there will be survivors left with life-changing injuries. However, the fact that 3 jihadis killed "only" 7 people before they were themselves killed is a testament to planning and decisive action.

Obviously this response may not be very effective against a sole suicide bomber such as we saw in Manchester, but it does seem to be very effective against one or more attackers using a vehicle and knives.

It may also not be fast enough to prevent a localised bloodbath by jihadis armed with automatic weapons (thankfully that's not happened so far on British soil) but probably could physically contain them very quickly and prevent the attack spreading into the surrounding area followed by a long manhunt such as we've generally seen on the continent.

People ran for their lives, dropping their stuff on the ground. They didnt know if their were bombs inside so they detonated everything they found .

I think it was just the fake bombs that we detonated. If it was stuff that was dropped there would have been hundreds of explosions.

Good.....& they need to publish what the arrested & interrogated's stated cause and objectives are. Media needs to publish their **exact words** and tell it like it is. No whitewashing the story. No PC.
We wait and watch......

I see a tremendous surge being done by these terrorists. It is like they are doing more and more of their brutal attacks now than ever before against those who believe in freedom, peace, and democracy. There is a great uptick in their attacks now.

Isis and other terrorists just like them are in a full out war against innocent others.:(

I have such a sense of worry that there will be more horrific attacks during Ramadan done by these barbaric extremists.

Praying for all in the UK and for everyone across the world who may be their next target.

There has been much discussion about the use of data collection , for example, by Edward Snowden. I imagine the British have lots of info in order to act so quickly.

Hard times we live in with lots of issues. Privacy or intel?

I will never understand the amount of hate necessary in a human being to kill children, men and women just randomly.

Last night I thought about something my Dad had told me years ago (he has passed away). He was in WWII and he enlisted at the age of sixteen, like many did. Many were children of farmers - like my Dad was. They were eager to serve their country and were always proud that they did.

Years later my Dad said it was still difficult to think about how he had to actually kill people. Of course he was in the war and these were enemy soldiers firing at him and his troop as well. My Dad just said that it is not natural for a human to kill another human. At the time of course he was a soldier and he was trained to do this. He had no regret about serving his country and being a soldier. He was so proud of serving his country and we all were as well.

These attacks aren't on enemy soldiers or people doing evil deeds. These are attacks on the people that soldiers protect. These are innocent people.

My family is proud of his military heritage and so was he. I will always have the greatest respect for the military and especially Veterans.

I just remembered that one thing my Dad said which was "it isn't natural to kill another human being."

Our human instinct is not wired to kill - our basic human instinct is to help.

I am still in shock and always am when I hear of these atrocious, horrible evil deeds. Can't imagine humans doing this. I just can't.

Sky Sources: one of the suspects asked a neighbour where he could hire a van prior to the London Bridge attack

The studies are not proving in any way that murderers feel guilt. They prove that their act of murder affects them psychologically.
Any act of killing manifests in some way and that is natural to human beings.
