Only way to make sense of it is if SH convinced CS that Tia had gone shopping then later in the evening pretended to be concerned by the child's failure to return home. He could have panicked CS then prompted her to follow the bus and drive to the fun-fair, after which he pretended (within CS's sight) to search the fair's perimeter before returning to the vehicle and telling CS that he'd persuaded the fun-fair staff to let him search inside. If CS remained in the vehicle, she may well have believed he'd really been searching. Maybe SH told CS to remain in the vehicle while he searched (although I think he said in the tv-interview that they'd both searched the perimeter. Maybe CS let that one slide, because it served to put her in good light as the frantically searching grandma)
