Law enforcement officials tell The Associated Press that bomb-making materials were found inside the vehicle of the man suspected in the Trump rally shooting. There were also bomb-making materials found at his home.

Law enforcement sources say that part of the aftermath will include a review of whether the Secret Service had enough assets to protect Trump days ahead of officially becoming the Republican presidential nominee and whether procedures were followed to conduct security sweeps of the building that offered a vantage point for the alleged shooter.

“Foundationally, one of the most basic elements of site security, especially a site that’s outside and largely uncontrolled, is (to) eliminate sight lines to this space where the protectee will be either speaking or just occupying,” former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe said on CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday morning. “When you look at that map, it so clearly points to those buildings that are within it, clearly within shooting range.”

According to CNN affiliate KDKA, a witness says he told officers that he saw a gunman moving “from roof to roof,” moments before the assassination attempt.

I also was watching CNN this morning as Fareed Zakaria interviewed a former SS agent. He had some interesting information about how quickly things transpired. I'm still looking for a link to the video, but apparently the killer came into the event and did the shooting fairly quickly.

Security concerns grow ahead of Republican National Convention after fatal shooting at Trump rally

“We’ve confirmed with each of the military service branches that there is no military service affiliation for the suspect with that name or date of birth in any branch, active or reserve component in their respective databases,” Pentagon press secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder said.

Comperatore’s sister, Dawn Comperatore Schafer, said her brother died while trying to protect his daughter when gunfire rang out during Trump’s speech.

Here's the news blurb where its stated that LE first encountered the shooter outside the event,

The shooter at former President Donald Trump’s rally Saturday night was spotted outside the event by local law enforcement, who thought he might’ve been acting suspiciously near the walk-through metal detectors, according to a senior law enforcement official.

Authorities announced over law enforcement radio to keep an eye on him, and that information was passed to Secret Service as well, according to the source.

The safety of these political events isn't just for the politician, but for the attendees, staff, community, etc....and for the entire nation.

We need to be able to assemble peacefully without the threat of being shot for pete's sake.

No violence, folks. NONE.

Here's the news blurb where its stated that LE first encountered the shooter outside the event,

So authorities spotted him while he was still on the ground (where was his gun???) and were concerned enough to keep on eye on him.

Then what happened? How did he slip out of sight? And, I repeat, where was the gun during all this?

And how did he know how to scale the building and get to the roof? Did he practice and if so, when?

I don’t think he had any expectation of escape. I think his psychology is going to be that of a mass shooter, who doesn’t expect to survive.

It would be nice to do *a lot of things* in this country without the fear of being shot. Political assemblies, festivals, nightclubs, going to school, grocery shopping…

That is so sad.
