. The United States Director of National Intelligence is usually central to the planning and execution of something like this. It involves the CIA, spies on the ground, intercepting communications, satellite imagery, etc. This is her purview as the principal intelligence advisor to the President. And she was kept out of it.

So who actually is running the intelligence community if its not her?

It seems to me the White House must be relying on military intelligence, and Rubio's sources in the State department. As well as people who aren't even in the government at all.

IMO, Trump has made it clear that this time round, he won't be relying on government 'officials'. They are 'bloat' and 'the swamp' that prevented him from doing what he wanted in his first term.

Canada would be a very difficult country to control though because over 90% of us don't want to be under US control. Also, we have such an enormous land mass, are used to our climate and most of the population would be willing to sabotage the US military at every turn.

Agreed! And I do think other members of NATO would come to our defense here in Canada, particularly the UK and Australia who we have close ties with. But it is Greenland at the moment who he has eyes on, even though the US already has a longtime military base there and has closed down several others there over the years. So the excuse of 'national security' is bogus in my opinion, as the US is welcomed to provide military support there already. IMO Trump is after their resources more than anything. I hope the US Congress starts keeping him in check more!

He can't purchase without Congress providing the funds. That's not going to happen.

In December 2024, Trump offered to buy/compensate Canadians if they agreed to join the US.

Although I can't find the link, I recall that the offer included that each Canadian dollar would be replaced with US dollars - equal value. He also promised that Canadian taxes would be reduced by 60%. That sounded good to some, until they realized that they would no longer have national health care, national dental plan, and many other quality of life benefits that are absent in the US.

Anything that the US government offers Greenlanders will sound good on the surface, but the fine print will reveal that their quality of life will be severely compromised. Their environmental protections will be wiped out. Their land will be destroyed and contaminated so the US can get rich.

That might work. The party leader Jens-Friederik Nielsen wants more business to finance Greenland's welfare, and Trump is likely to use this angle to achieve his goals. I don't believe the citizens want this, but I can see how he could persuade their government.
I think Greenland's annexation is inevitable at this point.

Take out Iran and Russia loses a significant supply of weapons, particularly drones. Putin has already lost two key allies in Syria and Venezuela. The loss of a third might just tip the balance in Russia.

Take out Iran and China loses a second source of sanctioned oil which its economy and military need, significantly weakening it on both counts.

Weaken China and North Korea is essentially hamstrung.

What is going on at the moment is a rare opportunity to completely neutralise the current grouping of hostile players, which would be worth a hell of a lot more than a few mines.

But, IMO, the only questions that matter are
1. Can the US directly and instantly make money from it? Resorts, oil, critical minerals? There must be vast wealth flowing into the US economy, allowing tax cuts.
2. will it stop evil people from killing young Americans with fentanyl?
3. Will it result in a Nobel Prize?
