US threatens to annex Greenland - 2025/2026

As soon as Mark Carney was elected Prime Minister of Canada, he initiated global alliances. One of the first was to pivot away from reliance on US for military. Until then, 75 cents of every Canadian dollar for defence was given to the US.

In December 2025, the deal was signed to procure defence supplies from EU countries, and to collaborate with the EU for defence spending, training and security. The US will no longer receive the bulk of Canadian defence spending.

Although not linked, Canada is also looking at procuring submarines and fighter jets from countries other than the US. As soon as the US waged war against Canada, it was clear that the relationship between the US and Canada is permanently broken. Canada is rapidly aligning with the global community, including EU, Australia and Asia. The US is unreliable and cannot be trusted.

Carney wants to build up Canada's defence capabilities and expand its military suppliers beyond the U.S. as President Donald Trump wages a trade war on Canada and most of the world.

At this point, I am afraid, the only cure for the NATO is to extricate the USofA from it. The USofA became a threat and they are very unwilling to see anything else but very warped American interest. We, European part of the NATO need to start relying on each other and work together to make Europe more stable and safer. IMO, of course.

The world needs to ask the question: if 32 NATO countries including the US are prepared to provide security in the Arctic and around Greenland, why does the United States assert that they can do it better alone? Common sense says that's not true ... so security is not the reason for wanting Greenland. The US is proposing a hostile takeover of a sovereign nation in order to steal natural resource wealth without respecting the people, culture, and environmental law.

"We've come here after some, how shall I put it, remarkable public statements about Greenland," Rasmussen began. "We haven't succeeded in changing the American position." Although the countries haven't come any closer, he called the conversation "open and constructive."

It's clear that the US president maintains his desire to conquer Greenland.

It's unfortunate, but everyone can see the writing on the wall ... while the United States government sleep-walks into a country where one man appears to unilaterally make all decisions.

The issue might be that not everyone at the negotiating table is a "democratic" partner?

The US "democratic" partner has to cooperate with NATO and the global economy, or there will be war in Greenland ... a war started by the united states against a sovereign NATO country and the Kingdom of Denmark. Canada knows it will be next, but Canada will never agree to giving up our quality of life for a few US dollars. Therefore, Canada must stand with Greenland.

In my humble opinion, I think this means that Denmark and Greenland are invoking NATO Article 5.

Good luck with that. Ensuring that technology and machinery works in cold weather is something altogether foreign for the California tech crowd. They should build their tech Utopia in Florida, where they understand climate.

I was quite confident these countries would unite against the US, although I'm surprised at how quickly. Pleasantly surprised. We are sending a message and hoping there are enough good Americans with power and clout to stop Trump's expansionist goals. I know my country, Canada, is prepared to go to war to prevent the US from taking us over if we have to. Many, many of us have parents and grandparents who went overseas to fight for freedom and democracy in the world wars, so the idea is not really that foreign to us.

Environmental law would govern use of massive amounts of freshwater for AI data storage. Salt water data centers are fine, but they deteriorate faster.

This decision looks like a green-light for the US government to initiate military action against the Kingdom of Denmark and Greenland. The problem is that the US government reacted after the fact, and then decided they don't really care about a military invasion of Venezuela.

A responsible government would take action beforehand.

Today is the time for the government to decide that military attack against Greenland is not okay. After the fact is useless, but it looks like those who can make a difference are unwilling to make a difference ... at this time.

Apparently .... Denmark says it has "agreed to disagree" with the United States over the future of Greenland after a meeting with top White House officials, but repeated that a US takeover of the territory is "totally unacceptable".

"We have decided to form a high-level working group to explore if we can find a common way forward.
"The group, in our view, should focus on how to address the American security concerns, while at the same time respecting the red lines of the Kingdom of Denmark."

Mr Rasmussen would not say if the meeting led to any sort of compromise, saying it was not the "proper place to elaborate".

European troops arrive in Greenland as US and Denmark talks fail to resolve dispute​

European military personnel began arriving in Greenland on Thursday, hours after a meeting between US, Danish and Greenlandic officials in Washington failed to resolve what Denmark's foreign minister called "fundamental disagreement" over the mineral-rich Arctic island.

France, Sweden, Germany and Norway announced Wednesday they would deploy military personnel as part of a reconnaissance mission to Greenland's capital Nuuk.

Let's go back to the beginning when the US government demanded ownership of the Panama Canal in 2025. Trade Routes. Then the US demanded ownership of Canada in 2025. Future Trade Routes: Arctic Shipping Lanes. Next, the US demanded ownership of Greenland in 2026. The Arctic represents trade routes of the future.

The problem for the US is that their country is too far South to be a major player in Arctic trade routes. The US has a little piece of the Arctic next to Russia (Alaska), but most land is waaay down South. The US appears to be upset that it is not a major player in future Arctic Shipping Lanes. The US can control Arctic trade routes to the West (Alaska), but has no control over routes from Canada to points East.

That appears to have made the US government really mad - mad enough to wage Economic War against Canada, and to threaten military aggression against the Kingdom of Denmark and Greenland. Given the aggression from the US against NATO countries, especially Canada, Denmark and Greenland, it's possible that the US wants full authoritarian control of Arctic Shipping Lanes to impose tax, or tariff (get RICH RICH RICH), on any country using the Arctic Shipping Lanes.

In the first exercise, the following countries will have military representation in Greenland before the weekend (info from various articles):
