EVANSTON — Salt Lake City police are sifting through trash at the Uinta County Landfill today, searching for evidence in the murder of a 15-year-old Utah girl. Former Evanston resident Shaun French, 24, was arrested last week as a suspect in the homicide; he’s also been charged with having unlawful sexual acts with a minor.

Salt Lake City Police Sgt. Todd Mitchell told the Herald that his team of 21 officers are hoping to find the evidence they’re looking for today, but they’ll return Wednesday if needed. Local officials were able to point officers in the direction where they believe French could have discarded evidence. Mitchell said they’re searching for some very specific evidence but couldn’t say what that evidence is.

However, “It’s not like we’re looking for a dead body,” he said.

No formal charges have been filed yet in the murder case, but French remains in custody for alleged sexual encounters with Bagshaw.

“There were over 250 staffing hours dedicated to the search of the landfill,” an SLCPD statement says. “Evidence was recovered, the nature of which cannot be disclosed at this time.“

Bagshaw had previously posted on social media that French was stalking her and trying to blackmail her.

So is French is Utah, or is he still in Colorado? Haven't seen any articles saying "where" he is. No longer in Colorado court site. Anyone get into court access site? Maybe get a hearing date for us?

Man confesses to murdering 15-year-old girl in SLC, police say

(KUTV) — Shaun French, who is suspected of murdering 15-year-old Baleigh Bagshaw, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on Wednesday (5/23) evening after confessing to the murder, police say.

French confessed the killing to two individuals, court documents state. He admitted his involvement in Baleigh's death on Wednesday.

According to court documents, a person saw blood on French's hands and face immediately after the homicide. He also, according to documents, provided details about the case that were not public knowledge. He said he entered the home through a basement window.
French was booked on charges of aggravated murder and aggravated burglary, in addition to his outstanding warrants of unlawful sexual activity with a minor.

French's next court appearance will be Friday, June 8th when he has a scheduling hearing at 8:30 a.m.

He is being held without bail on the Aggravated Murder charge.

*Prelim Hearing (@ 8:30am MT) – UT – Baleigh Bagshaw (15) (May 7, 2018) – Shaun French (24) booked (5/23/18) on aggravated murder (1st degree felony) & aggravated burglary (1st degree felony), obstruction of justice (2nd degree felony) & also charged (5/8/17) with 3 counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor (2nd degree felony) for Feb, 2017 crime. Which has been sealed. Held on $500K bond. Was on the run after BB’s murder; a $500K arrest warrant was issued; was arrested in Otero County on 5/9/18. 5/23/18 extradited back to Utah following his confession.

Just what's been in the articles. I haven't noticed "why" he was living there.

The Utah courts records online system is fee based... grr! I wonder if we have a local who could look it up on one of their public terminals or maybe email one of the reporters covering the case?
