I honestly don’t think this guy had any intention of not being caught. He always knew it was just a matter of time
I don't know if anyone else climbed around on school roofs as a young and stupid person, but I did. I would never have dropped from 10 feet like that, but that is another story.
Also
- The roof was hot. Not fry an egg hot, but at 85 degree heat, pretty hot. Sweat all over hot.
- The edges of the roof are not conducive to holding onto, contrary to what you see in the movies. There is usually metal flashing on the edges which are even more hot, plus loose pebbles
- Those pebbles are really rough on your knees and elbows. And hands if you are hanging off the sides. Like scrap your skin off rough.
- The descent was actually spectacular. Note when both feet are on the window, the knees are bent before heading to the ground. Ready for impact, no chance of locking a knee or hip when arriving at the ground. Most people would face the building and jump back (which I can attest is a bad thing). Excellent upper body strength and control. Good flexibility. No fear of self harm. This person is not the norm.
Something is bothering me. I can't place it. Why take the rifle, then leave it?
- The clothing could actually have come from any second hand store. Just mentioning it.
Looks like a 98, but not quite right. Mini-Mauser 98? Synthetic stock, not that common. And the scope doesn't match. Could it be broken? It got flung around a lot on the descent.
And unless the killer was wearing gloves while loading the weapon, likely DNA there, too.
I was thinking parkour.Reading posts now so unsure if this was mentioned but I have to wonder if he was quite athletic and confident in his physical ability.
Maybe a skateboarding, snowboarder, karate or whatever sports that may require skill, agility and maybe some jumps.
Even if he was, he will have breathed on it while settling himself and lining the shot up. There's DNA in breath. And unless the killer was wearing gloves while loading the weapon, likely DNA there, too.
Watching the videos over and over, and looking at the straps on his person in the photos.Yes, it was.
To me, it looks more like he tried to steady himself, then fell down, and had some trouble getting to his feet (might have injured one leg), and then took off.
If he is injured, he may not have felt pain right away. He was running on adrenalin; he just wanted to get away from the scene.
Once the adrenaline subsides, pain may set in with a vengeance. If so, hopefully they're not only checking neighborhood cameras, but possibly Walmart or CVS to see if anyone fitting his description bought pain-relief items.
ETA: I see other posters have come to this possible conclusion as well.
JMVHO.
Really looks like there is something in his right pant-leg in this photo that would explain the limping motion as he walked onto the Campus.
Regarding the video where he jumps down; I don't think he really injured himself. He hangs down reducing the drop distance to about 10 feet and then lands on grass. He does appear to drop something though that he stops for a moment to reach down to pick up, maybe his sun glasses or the like, before walking away with nothing like the limp the house surveillance camera footage showed him arriving on Campus with.To me, it looks more like he tried to steady himself, then fell down, and had some trouble getting to his feet (might have injured one leg), and then took off.
