VA - Col. Edward McDaniel and Brenda McDaniel, murdered at home, Springfield, May 26, 2021 *Arrests*

I am getting the feeling that it is more complicated than we think...

kind of weird clues coming down, possibly implicating a close family member into this big horrible mess...like hypothetically speaking---what if a close family member got involved in a shady or sketchy way with these 2 suspects---maybe took something from them or owed them something and they came to take it back? And poor Mom and Dad got caught up in the middle?

Yes. One article says the two are "co-workers" of the close relative, which I have to assume is the son. So something went down at work and these two felt it warranted this level of escalation. I can't see it being about a love interest since there are two suspects. So what's left? Theft? Did he get them fired? Did he witness something?

Just on your train of thread, we once had a Murder investigation where son owed drug dealers approx $300
He couldn’t pay and he went on the run so these drug dealers went to Dad and said you have to pay on your sons behalf and Dad said NO, it’s his debt, he sorts it so the drug dealers doused him (Dad) with flammable fuel whilst stood in the doorway of his house and set him on fire, leaving him to die. So it does happen!!

Yes, I am curious to see the reasoning behind it being 2nd degree.

A commenter on another site said that if the perpetrators arrived at the home with intent to harm/kill someone else, the murder of other people would be second degree

A commenter on another site said that if one is convicted of second degree murder in Virginia, that person has only ONE appeal, one chance to have the verdict re-examined by a court while a 1st degree conviction can be appealed endlessly

Dr. Beth Potter & her husband, Brenda McDaniel DNP and her husband, what is the world coming to???

“Edward McDaniel Jr., an Army colonel and doctor who treated generals, and his wife, Brenda, a retired Army colonel and a nurse who had served in the White House, had just returned home from walking their dogs on a spring day when a man approached them in their driveway.

The man pulled out a handgun and shot each in the head, leaving the couple to die in front of their upscale Springfield home in May, according to a witness. The reason behind the high-profile slaying in broad daylight had largely remained a mystery for six months.

But at a preliminary hearing in Fairfax County General District Court in early December, an acquaintance of the alleged gunman, Ronnie Marshall, testified the pair had gone to the McDaniels’ home not to target the accomplished couple, but to confront their son.

D’Angelo Strand told a judge Marshall was seeking Mike McDaniel because the son was part of a group that allegedly jumped and robbed Marshall, an accusation Mike McDaniel denies. Strand, Marshall and Mike McDaniel all worked together at a FedEx warehouse in Lorton.”
