Verdict Watch

Hello everyone! I haven't followed this case very closely but today had time to watch the JY testimony. I mostly just read the news stories but when I heard he was going to testify, I knew I'd have to watch to see how he did.

He did very well on the stand, and it might be enough for a juror or two to hold out. At the same time he's had a lot of time to consider how important it is to remain calm and polite during his questioning. Its clear that he successfully contained the harsher aspects of his personality... the testimony about the ring swallowing and the testimony from the prior girlfriend (the very attractive blonde) were demonstrative that this guy has some deep and disturbing personality issues.

This is a much different case compared to the Cooper trial, its clear that the people involved (judge, prosecution, defense) make a big difference in terms of how the case proceeds. Having JY testify was probably the only way he would have a chance of acquittal.

I'm on the guilty side on this one and strongly so, but again based mainly upon media reports as opposed to watching testimony. The thing that makes me question his guilt is that the murder was so brutal, and I can't understand how anyone could do that to their pregnant wife. For the same reason I was on the "not guilty" side of things on the Scott Peterson trial and remained so until Geragos put his defense on. I'm now certain Peterson is where he should be.

The cross of JY was really weak. They should have pressed him harder on things like shoes, clothes, location, etc.

Hi, Cal -
First let me thank you for your participation on the BC forum. Your personal acquaintance with BC and some of his "boyhood friends" and other in-common acquaintances, and your sharing it with us, gave us something that none of us, no matter how good we (not me!) WS'ers are, could have provided. And what you shared with us about him seemed unbiased and fair-minded.

Now, as for the sentence I bolded above: The overkill that occurred that night was another piece of evidence that further convince me of his guilt.

What burglar who wanted to steal things would have taken the time to pummel, pound and wham on a pregnant woman he/she/they did not know? Until she bled her lifeblood all over the bed and the carpet and the wall? Seems like a burglar(s) would render her unable to fight back or call 911, taken what he/they could find and GTH outta there.

Yes, I think JY did it and discovered a way to seek revenge on her for all she had "put him through." A white-hot rage rose up in him, and he struck her until he was too tired to do more. Blow for blow, saying: here's one for not having sex with me my way; here's one for whining all the time; and here's one for your mother, too; here's one for the marriage counselor; here's one for trapping me into this dayam marriage, etc. etc.

Yes, indeed, he got her told, and he did it.

I do agree that BH's cross of him was weak. Silver platter. Pound that guy until he gets angry, don't let up -- he didn't let up on MY that night. Anyway....

JMO, and I'm stickin' to it...

Cal, please continue to grace us with your thoughts and opinions -- I always look forward to reading your posts!

Brevard city schools did not have a fluoride program in the 70' and 80's.

Along with those thoughts...a robber/burgler wouldn't specifically target a bedroom unless they knew there was something they wanted in that room. Someone gets in and sees a purse sitting out? Bingo, take the wallet. Expensive equipment (computer, iPods, iPhones or portable stuff)? Bingo, take that. Jewelry laying around? Take what's visible.

Go upstairs, into the master BR and overkill the pregnant woman of the house for no particular reason? Hmmm...doesn't seem like something a random burglar would do.

Are any of you local folks planning to be in the courtroom tomorrow? I am planning to be there around 10:00 a.m. and hang out for a couple of hours in hopes of hearing the verdict in person. If anyone else plans to be there, please let me know -- I'd love to say hello!:seeya:

BTW, if you haven't listened to Websleuths radio, it's VERY interesting and quite good and interactive!

It's on NOW... (and every Sun night from 8pm - 9:30pm EDT)

Wow! That was fun -- thanks, Mad74. I've never been there & done that before. I bookmarked the site -- I'll do it again -- since I've nothing else to do -- no housekeeping, no floors that need cleaning, no groceries to buy, no bathrooms to clean, no mini-gardens to tend, .......

Thanks for sharing!

heh.

This week wasn't so great because of the technical problems, but I find the shows interesting. The shows are then archived and you can replay them.

Btw, I forgot to mention that is indeed my cat in the pic above (posted next to the pic of Manson). You never know what evil may be lurking in your staircase! ;-P

You answered my question about your beautiful cat before I got a chance to ask! Pretty, pretty k'kat. I had (

) a beautiful k'kat who was a grey longhair with yellow eyes, too. I still miss him, but I SWEAR I see him every now & then. I do think they have nine lives, not all of them on this terrestrial ball...

Beautiful cat, Mad. :cat:
(although he/she does look a tad pizzed...)

For those that missed it, here is a TV special on the murder at the 1 year mark.

At the end you hear a very angry Pat Young calling in after the show aired to demand her little boy not be called a "suspect". :floorlaugh:

Thanks for the link. What I found interesting was to ignore the fact that the reporter uses the word "angry" to describe his telephone interview with Jason's mother. She doesn't actually sound that angry.

I would hate to have to put the murderers name on my daughters tombstone. :maddening: Regardless if that name were young, peterson, cooper, etc. :maddening::maddening::maddening:

I thought that too, at first. Then figured they only did it because of the child.

First thing out of her mouth...."I am very angry over this".
Not sure what you heard, but she sounded like a total witch until the end, when she realized she needed to calm down.

I am planning to attend, but I thought I'd try to go about an hour after they get back from lunch... I was there for the BC verdict and that's about when it happened. It's possible they'll be done around 11 I suppose so they can get it over with and be out by lunchtime. Problem is, I can't spend all day there, so I would just have to get lucky on my guess about when they'll reach a verdict like I did for BC...

Does anyone have a link for this photo/video? Haven't been able to find it and I know it's out there.....thank you in advance.

Nothing out there, as I too have looked everywhere.
Though the video was on an admitted evidence CD, the clerk is not able to make copies for the media as easily as admitted documents and still photos, ect.
