But is anyone saying Ms. D can't spray tan? I think the complaints concern her lies about her background, both personal and professional--not to mention the questionable claims that she is a victim of hate crimes.

I have a cousin who loves everything Scottish. She insisted her wedding party wear kilts and hasn't missed the annual Highland Games in decades! I have to admit I share some of her affinities (though I'm not traveling across country to watch folks toss telephone polls!) even though our ancestors have been in this country for two centuries!

But, as gitana1 points out, my cousin doesn't claim she was born into the wrong culture; nor does she lie and tell people she was born in Edinburgh.

That said, elle, you are certainly right that some people seem to identify strongly with a race other than that into which they were born. The AA community even has slang terms for such people (wigga, Uncle Tom). But affinity, fondness for rap music, gangsta attitude, etc. are a far cry from a 5-year-old trying to amputate his own penis in order to "fix" his body.

Again:

Deep breath: (please let my sentiment be clear this time)

I am NOT saying RD is not fraudulent. She is a lying liar who lies from her lie hole.

I am saying there are many people who might be considered one "race" (grit teeth as I type that once again) but choose to "act" like they are of another race and get holy hell for it.

A kid with one white parent and one black parent (and often that black parent has some white ancestry) is expected to "act black".

I mean WTH? Why? Why can't he/she dress/look any way that makes him/her feel good?

If I get lip plumpers, am I posing? If a black woman straightens her hair is she trying to be white? Or, maybe that person DOES feel an affinity for an appearance that is not theirs naturally so they want to change their look to reflect who they would like to be.

Who does this hurt? I think it is mean and ridiculous to assume all people who adopt a "look" are fraudulent because some charlatan like RD tried to scam people with her look and her lies.

I honestly do not see why anyone is so judgemental on they way another person chooses to look.

I will be honest. I did have issues with Michael Jackson's looks. But mostly because of the decaying nose and other damaged-looking areas. But I don't care how many surgeries he paid for to look like whatever he wanted to look like. If it made him happy. Or even if it didn't. (I do have pedophilia issues, however)

Not my call, not my life.

But what Gitana said was that a person who identifies with another "race"/culture has no scientific basis.

Well, 40 years ago, top psy docs said the same about homosexuality and gender issues. And here we are, many years later, enlightened.

My point was, well let's let people just be happy and withold judging whether science allows their happiness until some new studies come out. After all, who is it hurting?

RD does not represent people who straddle cultural borders. Not everyone lies.

When I was in college , I worked with and was friends with two other women, both black and also students. One day they told me they believed three of the men in the office were black. No big deal to me, I couldn't tell one way or other, but it was to them and they were going to find out. So they asked. One guy said yes, he has Creole blood. Second guy said no, he was Jewish. Third guy said he was white. They still thought he was biracial/multiracial.

Lol, I have lived for many years in Louisiana. There are "white" people who are many shades darker than their "black" blue-eyed, pale skinned neighbors. We are used to lovely mixed people and maybe that is why I don't get why people get so hung up on race definition. I have learned so much from the people here.

However, there is terrible police racism here. But the actual PEOPLE? They are very cool with racially blurred lines.

Until 1924, none of this was a big a deal. You pretty much had to "look" black to not count as "white". Then the "one drop" law was enacted, so that anyone with a single drop of Negro blood was considered "black" wheras before, anyone less than 1/8 black was considered white.

The lawmakers such as Kalvin Koolidge must have had a lot of time on their hands to sit around deciding who was black and why it even mattered.

But 90 years later......here we are. Still doing it. Who is whiter than white? Ohhh! He looks kind of black!

Why aren't we better than this? Sad.

Bingo.

I can see that it would be very possible for a child raised among a different ethnic group to identify almost 100% with that group. Such a child might have very little social interaction with members of his/her own ethnic group. I don't believe this is rare. (On an interesting related topic, children raised by wolves, identify with wolves.) However, most young people these days, partly because of the more fluid boundaries between countries and regions as well as the fewer roles that are restricted by race (e.g. nannies), don't have that opportunity. And RD is certainly not in that category! She doesn't "identify": she masquerades. And she has no comparable story about how she grew up in another culture/ethnic group/race. She'd have had a story like this unless she liked the convenience of being able to select her race like an answer on a multiple choice test (a. white b. black c. biracial d. all of the above e. none of the above), and to erase her answer whenever and select another just because.

Yes.

But what Gitana said was that a person who identifies with another "race"/culture has no scientific basis.

No. That's not what I said.

I am unable to copy and paste for some reason, but post #850. You said it was, I believe a made-up phenomenon and there is zero proof that attraction to other cultural appearances exists.

Also you keep adhering that "transracial" hook to me. I have stated over and over that I dislike any terms which label or separate people from being people. I only used the term because there are actual people who are NOT RD who identify as such. I am being respectful of those people. I never even read that term until I saw it here, as a joke and point of mockery.

Wow. Incredible. So he's going to win that case I think!

Oh and from your second link:
josh-2a.jpg

It doesn't get much whiter than that family.

Curious.

If someone posted a pic of dark skinned person and said "doesn't get much blacker than this", would that be cool?

"There's a professor in the Africana Studies department who doesn't think you should come and speak because, as a white person, you have no authority to speak about racism or issues that affect black people," Wise told International Business Times he was informed by the department head. He learned who that professor was the day the Dolezal story broke when he got a text from the department head revealing that it was Dolezal who had objected to his visit, he told IBTimes."

I don't have a link, but I remember reading that she declined to choose a student in her class to portray a Latina in a dramatization because, although the student WAS, in fact a Latina, she wasn't quite Latina-looking enough for Dolezal.

Seriously. Latina-LOOKING? Again with the looks. RD thought looks was all it took. Sad.

KHQ is stating RD is refusing to step down from the Omsbudsman position despite being asked to due to issues of misconduct from RD and two other members of the Committee.

""I am deeply disturbed by the letter I received today from the Mayor and city council president requesting my resignation as chair of the office of police ombudsman commission.

I standby my work on behalf of the citizens of Spokane to further justice and promote civilian oversight of law enforcement.

I am sincerely troubled by the short sided conclusions that have so quickly been made with this report. I urge the people of Spokane to take a close look at the timing and intentions of the investigation and request for my resignation.

I will continue to promote greater transparency and accountability for law enforcement both locally and nationally."

Here is an interview with one of her former students in the African History class that RD taught:

""Wondering why she was moving away from history and more towards politics."

Muller told KHQ some lectures were led by strong political statements and at one point directly affected grades in the class when Dolezal, apparently, made a Ferguson related protest a part of class participation."

This student had to challenge the grade she was given by RD for not marching in the protest.

So did her kidnapper parents arrange for that investigation too, in order to sabotage her street cred for the molestation trial?

When would it be a good time for her to be investigated for being a con artist?

How about the 12th of Never?

Seriously, RD always plays the victim! She has brought shame and ridicule upon an entire community. Yet she will go down fighting making statements like "this is not me quitting", but stepping up or stepping down to continue to fight for a cause. Trouble is that the cause is not altruistic because it is always about her being victimized.

After all it was just a little "white lie".

Sick and wrong! (IMO)

I just heard a radio show where some 'expert' was actually buying into this trans-racial nonsense .. Now I'm all wound up and can't calm down. This entire story is just infuriating.

This is a conversation you yourself have participated in by posting photos in the context of racial attributes. I'm sure most of us know the history of racism in this country. I resent the inference in this post that those of us discussing this fraud's features in the context of her masquerade are ignorant and/racist.

Everyone who knows me knows I've yelled about racism in America in the context of various cases we examine. Until I've been told to stop.

Just a reminder before I head to bed.
