WA - Gabriel Davies, 16, Found Safe - Then Charged With Murder, Olympia, 30 Aug 2022

If the deceased didn't show up for work on the Monday morning, then he must've been killed on either the Saturday or Sunday before, so the 29th and 30th of August.

I guess LE will look at Gabriel's movements that weekend, probably from cell phone pings.

But as they already have evidence from the man's home, they may not need to.

I'm curious to hear what evidence LE have already. They didn't have to do much of an investigation to lead them to Gabriel.

Thanks for this, I was trying to assemble a timeline in my head. This is a much better thread than the other one.

So Gabriel likely killed the guy, knew that he had left enough evidence to be implicated and in desperation tried to disappear but when the murder was discovered and he was actually wanted he was more or less quickly located and arrested.

Interview with the Sheriff.

Reporter - Can you walk us through the early stages and kind of what the Sheriff's Office had to do with that?

Sheriff - Absolutely. About 5.30 we received a report of an abandoned vehicle, at the 16100 block of Tilley Rd., and it was reported that keys were in the ignition and the driver's side door was open. We had deputies respond to the area, do a vehicle registration check and we learned that by calling the registered owner. The registered owner said that his son was supposed to be at football practice. So, at that time there was no juvenile around the vehicle, so we conducted a search via.. using Washington State Patrol Aviation unit, who conducted a search of the area and then we also used our K9 to check around the vehicle as well, to see if we could pick up a scent of an individual leaving that area. During that whole time we also received phone calls of a male walking North on Tilley Road towards Millersylvania State Park. We had about five or six reports, and one individual even said that he had spoke to the male individual who said that he was fine. So, at that time when we realised that we could not locate the individual, we had deputies sit on the vehicle until detectives could respond to the scene on the 1st September, which was Thursday. At that time we had detectives out on the scene and we were able, at that time, to reach out to the FBI for their assistance, Olympia Police Department for their assistance, Washington State parks for their assistance. Obviously, we were able to contact search and rescue where they brought about 30 volunteers to assist in the search with bloodhounds. We continued to search for the individual the entire day. We had detectives in FBI respond to the registered owner's address to talk to the family members, and during that time we were contacted by Pierce County Sheriff's Office for other investigations and interests, but we were fortunate enough to locate our missing person later that evening. He showed up around the 13000 block of Tilly Road later on Thursday evening, 1st Sept.

Reporter - You mentioned Pierce County contacting you. The Pierce County Sheriff's Department announced this morning that two 16 year old boys had been arrested in the murder of a man in his 50s. They didn't specifically say it was our previously missing Olympia boy, Gabriel Davies, but Davies was booked into the Pierce County Juvenile detention last night. Are you able to confirm whether those two are connected or confirm that it was Gabriel who was arrested or would you rather leave that to Pierce County?

Sheriff - I'm not going to comment on any of that because that's an investigation Pierce County's conducting and I would refer all questions about that investigation to Pierce County.

Reporter - FBI's involvement - Was that anything to do with the theory that the missing person could be somehow related to the two other missing teens that have vanished in the past few years?

Sheriff - The FBI involvement is because of the relationships that we've established with the FBI and along with the Olympia Police Department and Washington State Parks and Washington State Patrol, because we're all concerned about missing juveniles or even missing persons. So we do take it very seriously and all the resources that we can utilise, or that we're available to, we're going to utilise, so that's why they got involved with us.

Reporter - Does the Sheriff's Office, the Thurston County Sheriff's Office, have any ongoing role in the investigation?

Sheriff - At this time we're assisting Pierce County with anything that they're asking us to assist them with. Obviously, we are making ourselves available to all agencies that need assistance in investigations, but with Pierce County, yes, we are assisting them when needed.

Reporter - Could you elaborate a little more just on the resources, and you've already spoken a little bit about it, but the resources the Sheriff's Office threw at the initial search, because I know you guys led the search for almost two full days. Is that a lot of your personnel, mostly volunteers...?

Sheriff - What I would say about the resources that were utilised is obviously all law enforcement agencies were advised and provided with a description of the missing person, and then we were able to search for our missing person in the areas that we believe that he might have gone, or was last seen, and so we did grid searches. So, it involved probably about 60 to 70 law enforcement and volunteers looking for this individual and the best part is, is that he was located and the family was definitely very grateful for that.

Reporter - Early on, the Sheriff's Office released that a cell phone had been collected, destroyed at the scene - Does Pierce County have that phone? And do you know if anything can be recovered off of it?

Sheriff - I wouldn't be able to comment on any of that just because it's an ongoing investigation.

Reporter - When Gabriel got home did he just show up at the house? Was he brought back to the house by a friend or how did he all of a sudden become just back in the picture?

Sheriff - Gabriel, our missing person, he showed up at an address and law enforcement was contacted and we had detectives go out and speak with him and we were able to take him home to his family. So, they were definitely very grateful for us returning Gabriel home safely, so definitely appreciated that.

Reporter - Was he with a friend or family when he got back or was he by himself?

Sheriff - When he was located, he was located by himself, and he contacted the homeowner and the homeowner immediately called 911.

Reporter - Did he walk there or drive?

Sheriff - Well, he, according to the statements, he walked there. So, he explained that he was out wandering around for the last 24 hours.

Reporter - How far away was the place where he showed up and the place where he was reported missing. How far away are those two points?

Sheriff - I would say maybe a mile.

Reporter - Any further investigation by the Thurston County Sheriff's Office of any crimes related to either the disappearance or the Pierson County murder?

Sheriff - No, what it is is that we were investigating a missing person and he's been located and were assisting Pierson County and whatever investigations that they're looking at assistance in, so we'll assist them.

Reporter - Anything further you'd like to say in relation to either case?

Sheriff - No, thank you for your time and I'm just glad that we were able to locate Gabriel safely and return him home to his parents. Thank you.

Wow wow wow

Two things strike me
1) How much he resembles Taylor Lautner in Twilight, right on down to the NW Washington location, and
2) How much I hope this investigation reveals mitigating circumstances. I know a 16yo who killed his stepfather, and there was quite a lot to the story, which the judge considered. He’s a very successful and functional member of society now. If that is the case here, I hope it is as compassionately considered.
There might be mitigating circumstances. Someone has organized a go fund me for the family to raise money for legal fees and to bring him home. They have raised over half of the first goal amount of 25k in a short amount of time. He is described as being a sweet and loving son, brother, cousin and friend.

Where is that posted?

It appears that a 50-year-old woman with the same last name as Gabriel Davies lived for a time with the victim. Investigators would not confirm her relationship to the suspect.

Investigators say more information will be released Tuesday.

The 16-year-old Olympia boy whose disappearance launched a two-day search in south Thurston County this week has been arrested on charges of murder, burglary and unlawful possession of a firearm, according to Pierce County Corrections booking information.

Gabriel Michael Davies was reportedly located by investigators late Thursday after his vehicle was previously discovered unoccupied on Tilley Road near Millersylvania State Park.

He was booked into the Remann Hall Juvenile Detention Center Friday night.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department announced in a news release Saturday morning that two 16-year-old males were taken into custody for burglary, second-degree murder and unlawful possesion of a firearm.

Though Davies is not named in the release, the details of the case and the jail booking records align.

According to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to a welfare check on a 51-year-old man in the 21900 block of 190th Street East in Orting at about 9:30 a.m. Thursday. The man had not shown up for work for four days.

That violates their terms of service, if I'm not mistaken. Unless they've changed their rules, you cannot raise money for the legal defense of a violent crime.

I'll be curious to see if there is a serious backstory here. Was this deceased ex bf accused of domestic violence towards the mother or something like that? Or is this an alleged burglary that went sideways?

It feels to me like there is a bigger backstory here. But who knows?

“My neighbor had told me but she didn’t know what happened,” said Wendy Moore, a longtime resident of the neighborhood three miles outside of the city of Orting. She says she didn’t know the victim well, but he was friendly.

“I never had any problems with him,” said Moore. “He wasn’t loud or anything. He was gone a lot. Had his mail on a hold a lot.”

Indeed, she says someone picked up his mail Monday.

“And then there was two sheriff’s departments,” said Kisinger. “And they were there for like three hours, and then the next thing I know there’s like 10 unmarked cars.

Pierce County Sheriff’s detectives arrested Davies and another 16-year-old Friday evening. Both were booked into Remann Hall, Pierce County’s juvenile detention facility, on suspicion of second-degree murder, first-degree burglary, and unlawful gun possession.

The teens have not been formally charged with those crimes — a decision will likely come Tuesday, after the holiday weekend, according to a spokesperson for the Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office. Prosecutors will also decide whether Davies and the other individual might be charged as adults, a factor that involves harsher potential consequences.

Additional property and court records from Pierce and Thurston counties tie the address to a 51-year-old man with longstanding connections to Davies as well as his mother. All of them lived at the address for several years. The man and Davies’ mother were a couple, according to statements filed by both individuals in a long-running family law case. The man and Davies’ mother filed multiple statements in support of each other.
