GUILTY WA - John Hauff arrested for 8 hr. sex torture session in special chamber

After he had horrifically tortured the woman--to the degree that she asked if she was going to be killed, he threatened to bury her in the yard. That is EXACTLY what Ed Bagley did to the torture victim in Missouri. Are these monsters using the same "playbook"?

Something tells me that Hauff wouldn't mention burying a person in the yard, unless this had come up in the past.

I have to wonder who helped this woman until the police received the full story about two weeks later. She must have been in total agony and terror.

FWIW, Hauff was driving a blue Taurus station wagon when he picked up the victim on Saturday, April 2nd at about 9:30 pm on Aurora in Seattle, according to the link above.

I wouldn't read to much into it, he was trying to scare her and that is a pretty common threat especially for people living on acreage. Having had a few people online threaten they would "track me down" the standard response is always "go ahead...got lots of acreage out here with plenty of room to bury bodies".

The fact he blindfolded her before taking her there is interesting and strongly implies he had no intention of killing her. A killer, particularly someone who had done this before would not likely ask the victim to be blindfolded/bound up ahead of time, they would just want to get the victim to the destination and get busy.

Such a request could easily cause conflict, a fight, and a risk of loosing a victim out in the woods. With bodies out there getting identified a loose eye witness would not be a good thing, plus why even ask her? To see how much she will tolerate? Obviously she would tolerate a lot. But it just doesn't make sense to ASK them to wear a blindfold and be bound up in the car if the plan was capture and kill.

This guy may have blindfolded every woman he took there and then later decides who gets to leave or who gets murdered. Ultimate control tactic. Fits his pattern. Anyone who shocks a woman at high voltage while he's introducing liquid into her bladder while she's got a collar on and is chained to a wall is IMO definately capable of murder.

Yeah electricity is not that uncommon. There are various tutorials on using electricity for entertainment purposes and safety instructions but I can't post links because many also include sexual terms.

I would be very interested to know how he was using it. With electricity the practioners are careful to avoid paths that could cross the brain or heart, and generally stick to the lower extremities.

I personally do not believe this guy has a string of murder victims in his past. He is into torture, that is his thrill and if he was going to kill he would likely go "beyond the point of no return" via his various torture fetishes first, he would't say "well I will just stick to light stuff that won't cause permanent damage with this victim, and the next victim gets the full treatment and won't survive".

Plus his handling of the victim ahead of time, creeping her out and then letting her use the cell phone just doesn't add up for someone that has had practice capturing and killing victims.

I don't know. I think the use of the blindfold is less important in this case. The use of a blindfold is pretty common in BSDM judging by the number of hoods, blindfolds and other face coverings for sale. She had already seen his face, his vehicle and where he lived.

There are plenty of torturer/murderers who blindfold and torture their victims and then just outright kill them, like they had planned all along. BTK was one. He also tended to try to get his victim to go along with the program by threatening them or promising he wouldn't kill them if they'd go along. I don't think JH's use of a blindfold or the fact that he enjoyed torturing women to lessen in any way the likelihood that he has killed before or meant to kill this particular woman. Also, his acting like Hey, no harm, no foul when he knew she had texted his info makes perfect sense. He didn't want to get caught.

Kiki's right. We've had many many feet (9 or 10, I think) wash ashore in the NW. It's been a mystery for some time. A number have been found in male shoes but there've been some women's feet and a couple of children, I believe.

The boat really worries me. The GRK disposed of his victims in places where they could be found. In fact, one of the reasons they believe that more than one person may be responsible is that only one of the GRK's victims was fully buried--the young pregnant woman found with the tubing, etc. Others were partially buried or covered and yet others were left in the open. If a guy has an ocean going vessel, who knows how many victims could be lost, especially if he weighted them down.

That might be where the feet come in, however. Nothing says that this man hasn't abused males and/or children too.

I used to have the unfortunate 'pleasure' of driving Aurora/Pacific Hwy when DH and I had only one car, and I was driving him back and forth to work (O/T. but I am nervous driving on the freeways, especially I-5 through the Seattle area!).

I was surprised to see what I, after a while, recognized to be 'ladies of the evening' dressed in all sort of Pacific Northwest-specific garb, including hiking boots and the like.

Also, IIRC, the average shoe size for a woman is around a ladies 7 or so--roughly equivalent to a boys' size 5 or 6? My female friends and I have been known to purchase boys shoes, especially hiking boots, work boots, runners, etc., if we found them in the right size and they were on a good sale...

Slippers, house shoes, shower shoes, sneakers, flip flops. Kiki is right. The girls out there don't have the luxury of a huge wardrobe. They do their best depending. As the saying goes "I clean up good don't I?"

Again with the woods, and the acres of land and the feet. My heart goes out to this victim. At least here if you could escpae you'd be able to scream "Fire" and bang on the neighbors doors.

I read somewhere (can't recall where) that this is due to the tsunami victims a few years ago. Many buried by the waves, and when the bodies decay to the point that the tendons break the shoes make the feet float, ocean currents carry them to the west coast.

Forensic pathologists could determine the age of the bodies (as in how long ago they died) and the ethnicity.

Back on topic this guy ain't no serial killer. He is a Gorean freak that takes things too far (likely has mental problems distinguishing fantasy from reality). His methods do not add up to multiple murders, not bright enough. He took someone he knew, let her use her cell phone to text, and then darn near peed his pants when she said she had texted a friend. Major fail; if he had done this before he would be a heck of a lot smarter.

Sonya--I can't tell you how desperately I want you to be right.

IMO, once Hauff learned of the text, he was stuck between a rock and a hard place. If he killed the woman, his license plate and description would be out there. If he turned nice and apologetic AND paid double, he at least had a fighting chance of getting away with this. I have a sense that his young woman was pretty desperate for that cash, he knew that, and played that card. That's why she took a gig that obviously worried her (thus the text). I assume that she sounded forgiving when he clearly was getting ready to release her. She even accepted a ride back to the city from him. I think this girl is one smart cookie. We can all learn much from her tactics. At 24, she handled herself in an extremely savvy manner. I have a feeling she used that money immediately and took a bit of time to gather herself and her courage to approach the police. I hope to high heaven that she's getting victim's services appropriate to her needs AND the praise she is entitled too.

Note we haven't heard much about the woman Hauff was found with when he was arrested. Somehow, I don't think it was his elderly mother. We also haven't seen a mug shot. I find that incredibly strange.

I agree MissIzzy. Under the circumstances, if he had killed her and dumped her body he knew that at least one person could tie her to him. Whoever recieved that text. So even if he hid her remains, LE would be searching him out. Last seen known to be with a missing woman, there was a chance that they might be doing a search warrant on his home. And with the torture room, that was too great a chance.

This way there are three chances. She might not go to LE. Or she might go them and they might not believe her. Or she might go to them and they might believe her. But in his mind he probably justified it that he paid for the activity and therefore if she was released, there was no crime. He probably never considered the kidnapping aspect.

I do have to give kudos to LE, because they did listen and they did investigate.

As far as the no picture, I think it is like others said in this thread that they may be wanting to keep his pic out of the media so they can use it in a lineup. But I am pretty surprised that media has not found some other pic and used it anyway.

Maybe this is the info you want. In addition to LE finding a torture room in his home (described at link), Hauff confessed.

When questioned by detectives, Hauff admitted he picked up the woman and brought her to his house for a "bondage session," investigators said. He told them the woman had asked several times to be released, but "he was so aroused that he didn't stop or release her."
