Beattie shared with the crowd that Lucian had a special relationship with his grandpa, who passed away not too long ago.

He said there’s a kind of peace for family in knowing that after all the time they spent searching, they found Lucian on Dec. 29 — his grandpa’s birthday.

“Lucian’s family believes that moment was a special gift, not only to comfort them, still mourning the loss of Sandra’s dad, but also the loss of Lucian,” Beattie said. “And it’s a gift that begins that very, very long and probably never-ending journey of healing.”

No one can ever say that Lucian Munguia wasn’t loved. He was loved, not only by his family, but by the hundreds of strangers who came to his funeral to say goodbye and the thousands more watching from across the country.

Most funerals are attended by just close family and friends, unless the person who died was famous or in a position of power. Lucian was neither, but his story captured hearts and made people love a little boy they’d never get a chance to meet.

That’s why Yakima’s Stone Church was packed Saturday with people wanting to honor Lucian’s memory, say goodbye and express their condolences to his family.

RIP, Lucian. I wish his family to be strong and together, these tragedies are very hard on family units. Good that there is huge support from the community.

The state House of Representatives unanimously approved the "MMIWP and Lucian Act" on Wednesday that would provide additional tools to help locate and recover missing persons.

The bill was brought forward by Rep. Gina Mosbrucker (R-Goldendale).

Mosbrucker says she decided to name the bill after Lucian Munguia, the four-year-old who went missing on Sept. 10 from Sarge Hubbard Park in Yakima.

The bill passed 96-0. It now goes to the Senate for further consideration.

Every second matters when a loved one is missing and all too often, families spend precious minutes or hours struggling to figure out what to do past calling 911.

That’s the situation the family of 4-year-old Lucian Munguia found themselves in, just days after their little boy went missing, when law enforcement pulled back their resources and left the family to coordinate their own search.

[...]

The MMIWP & Lucian Act was signed into law Monday by Gov. Jay Inslee, directing the Office of the Attorney General to create a “Missing Persons Toolkit” to provide families with a list of resources needed to locate and recover missing persons.

[...]

Mosbrucker said the toolkit will explain the immediate actions someone should take when a person goes missing; not just calling 911, but immediately writing down every detail they can remember about the circumstances when the person disappeared.

[...]

Mosbrucker said the toolkit will also include information about the kind of personal information that can be helpful to law enforcement in searching for a missing person — especially the importance of a recent, high quality photo.

[...]

The toolkit will also identify the different databases that missing persons can be reported to, such as the NamUs National Missing and Unidentified Persons System and the Travis Alert System.
