Thurston County Sheriff’s Deputies Seek Public’s Help to Find Missing Man Last Seen Near Grand Mound

A Thurston County man has been missing since the evening of Feb. 28, when he was last seen apparently hallucinating in the area of the 19200 block of Old Highway 99 Southwest in the Grand Mound/Tenino area.

Matthew Anfeldt, 20, hasn’t been seen since the incident, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies are asking property owners or residents in the area to check their properties for any sign of the man, or to allow deputies to make a search..

At 5:27 p.m. on Feb. 28, deputies responded to the 17800 block of Old Highway 99 Southwest after a woman reported Anfeldt, her neighbor, was behaving erratically.

“The behavior included ranting (that) this family was injured or dead and ‘they were after him,’” according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.

Anfeldt then reportedly jumped a fence and ran into the road, where several vehicles had to swerve or stop to avoid him.

He jumped onto a car and in the bed of a truck before running away.

Eight minutes later, another 911 call reported Anfeldt was in the Speedway Grocery store in the 19200 block of Old Highway 99. A person at the store reported he was acting “panicked” and had dried blood around his mouth. He reportedly continued to say his family had been killed and someone was after him.

Wow, he needs to get help ASAP! He is definitely going through some sort of mental health/drug induced crisis!

Missing a week. I wonder if he was severely injured by a car and didn't realize it due to his state?
Yeah, it doesn’t look good. Either he succumbed to his wounds or he‘s still being paranoid and hiding somewhere. But where? :(

Looking at the FB it seems like there was something brewing from a mental health perspective, just IMO. I hope he is found and gets help.

Wow. From the article in the first post: "Deputies contacted his family and learned that his claims were unfounded." So I guess that's good news, that his family wasn't actually killed. I hope they can locate Matthew soon. He definitely needs help. :(

He sounds like he's in crisis. If he's OK, he's probably living on the street. They might try homeless shelters and hospitals.

Poor guy. He most be so scared.
I wonder if the blood in his mouth came from being hit by the car. Hoping it's nothing serious

No shoes.
No phone.
No truth in his claims (thankfully fam = ok).
No sightings reported in 7 days missing.

Sad. I would guess schizophrenia plus street drugs, perhaps. I assume his family is okay?

Thurston County-Sheriff

TCSO has already done one search using canines and has plans for additional search this upcoming week. However, in the interim we plead with property owners to help us by checking your own property per the attached flyer. That means all outbuildings, crawl spaces, tall grass and wooded areas. Every place that is large enough to conceal an adult size person. Remember, the missing subject appeared to be in a high state of delirium when last seen. Because of that, a correlating medical emergency could have easily followed. Thank you to our followers for pushing this announcement. TCSO is dedicated to bringing resolve to the Family in this matter!
