I know it's not of anyone's business, but I'm curious.

He said in the Fox interview that she relapsed because he has medical issues.

Anyone who knows what is the illness the guy suffers from that made her relapse?

The illness must not be related much to his body, since he drove the 120 miles to the stepfather (Castle Rock) in 3hours and 10 minutes, including the stop to make the car repair. Then he spent the night driving to Olympia and back looking for his girlfriend.

The illness must not be bad enough that would prohibit him from taking Cub Scout training.

IMO

Cancer scare. Don't know anything other than that.

I just don't remember the drunk part. I will have to see if I can find an original post.

dreamweaver posted it on the first page of the thread - and there's no mention of Shantina being drunk.

Did she use a home phone or a cell phone to make this call from their home? Would her grandfather's number be a local number=not incur any long distance charges? I would feel funny borrowing a home phone to make a long distance call if I was at a strangers home. Maybe she couldn't call her stepfather/fiance because it was long distance?

I don't see why she wouldn't ask if she could make a long distance call. They already let her come into their house and fed her kid, letting her make a 5 cents/minute call isn't a big deal.

That's the post I quoted. It does say Shantina seemed drunk:

A post from a waitress from the diner they were at that night.
=======================
Wantmy, I work at the Martin way diner..your stepmom and Azriel were in about 9 pm Saturday. They ordered a corn dog and tater tots to go, and payed for them, but while I was cooking their dinner, I watched them get up and leave. I didn't think too much about it, but they never came back. My waitress asked me what should we do with their order, and I told her to just wait..they might come back..My waitress told me that the woman seemed drunk, but the kid told my waitress. "Mommy hit her head". We wondered if she might have a concussion. We reviewed our security tapes, and she fell down outside the restaurant. She might have had a concussion..I don't know if she was a drinker or not, but she didn't order any alcohol at our place..I hope they're ok..I ended up taking that dinner home for myself, and it eats at me that I might have take azreils last meal..

=========================
I have no way of knowing if this is accurate information or not.
Hopefully, if it is true, that this person has called the police.

I cannot wait, next weekend we are attending the Cub Scouts Father's Day Family campout. This is when D.J. crosses over to be a Bear Scout, and Azriel becomes a Tiger Scout. This is one of those things Jay and I said we were going to do with Az. I can't believe that the man I am with now has totally blown my mind with how much he loves my son. Robb got so excited yesterday about next weekend, that he bought him his scouting uniform. Mind you those things are not cheap! I am also keeping my word and being the Tiger Scout Den Leader. It's too bad that Jay is too busy working on his comedy career to see that I am doing the things that we planned. I am, with the help of a great man, making Azriel into the boy and man that I always wanted him to be!

Snipped from her MS account. Jay is the person in New York that BF called?

There does seem to be a flavor of animosity towards the ex in this sentence. Why post something like this in a public place? Kind of like a "ha ha look at our great life together" thing. Which bugs me. Because if you have it all, you don't need to brag about it or bash an ex on a public forum.

That was the first comment I saw, and it was posted very early on in the thread.

My mistake. I think I'm remembering a different post she left on myspace or something. It was shorter and didn't mention Smiley seeming drunk or viewing the tapes.

Gah, it reminds me of the New Jersey case. As time went by people came forward with info that she appeared drunk. Sigh.

Except if you look at the date and time it was posted, it was before anything came up about her drinking.

The post has changed and it appears it has been taken down from the Olympian site where it originated from, here is the original version:

Someone identifying himself or herself as an employee of a diner where Smiley stopped that night posted the following message on a website. It makes reference to Smiley tripping and possibly injuring herself:

Calling from Olympia, it is just about same distance to call to her stepfather's than to her granfather's.

Using her private cell phone, there could be a difference because her home is across the bay from her grandfathers though there is no roadway close by.

But, it was Saturday night, when most cell phone calling plans are on free-time.

This will be sorted out once the phone records are closely examined.

Does anyone still really think the fiance, ex-boyfriend, ex-husband, stepfather, or random stranger/predator is involved in this disappearance? Because I think only two people were involved here - Shantina and Azriel, and the digging up of information on the men in her life seems kind of futile and inappropriate, JMO.

Shantina is a recovering alcoholic and had just relapsed; apparently she was also taking medication for anxiety. If she had mixed alcohol and Xanax or another benzodiazepine (anxiety medication), that would explain her disoriented behavior/falling in the diner parking lot. In fact, I think it clearly does explain it. It also explains her ending up where she did - I realize that road is a dead end and out of the way, but take a turn here and a turn there, while intoxicated, and it's likely she ended up there entirely on her own, tried to turn around, perhaps knowing the water was there, perhaps not, backed into the water, attempted to get out, but in her disoriented/intoxicated state stumbled/fell, and her poor son, in an attempt to save/help his mother, went down into the water with her. IMO they are in the water, sadly, and the searches should be focused there. Whoever suggested bringing in Tim Miller was right on.

I feel horrible for the little boy. It's pretty clear he was used to 'taking care' of his mother. He made the excuse 'she hit her head' to explain her erratic behavior when he likely knew very well she was drunk. If you look at the video posted of her entering the diner, she is smiling and looks quite 'jolly' - intoxicated. Anyway, being used to taking care of his mom, when she fell/stumbled trying to get out of the water, little Azriel's first instinct was not to save himself and get to dry land, but to take care of his mom and try to help her. I'm just afraid that by this point she was too far gone to walk on her own and pulled little Azriel down under with her. Truly tragic, but the simplest explanation and the one that makes the most sense, IMO.

This poor little boy. I can't stop thinking about him, trying to help his mom and get them to safety. I just see foul play as extremely unlikely in this case. And if Shantina and Azriel had gotten out of the water, they would have been found by now. Surely Azriel would have gone to fetch help. The only place they could be is in the water, really. Are there active searches going on there? Divers? Can't they bring dogs out on boats to alert them to the presence of people in the water?

That's not the original, that's in a news article, and that article is dated the day after (March 16) the comment was posted (March 15) on the Olympian.

Obviously, the news article redacted the drunk portion of the original comment as posted.

The comment has not been taken down from the Olympian. It's still there. Several of us have linked to it. It's on page 2 of the comments.

ETA: Try this link. If it doesn't come up, scroll down and click the 2 for page 2 of the comments.

The repair.

Plus the timing doesn't work if you think he did something. This was HOURS before her last sighting.

(according to maps) He was a little over 100 miles from home, 2 1/4 hours after he says he left, when she supposedly called him; he said he'd pulled off to do a "minor" repair. What sort of repair? Where? What time did he get to that exit and how long did it take for him to do the "minor" repair?

I was searching all over for this. I thought I had read it. This is a comment allegedly by an employee at the diner they stopped at. I'm really afraid she may have been drinking. I'm not trying to be mean. I'm just trying to find a reason for her seemingly erratic behavior.

After the fiance said she had relapsed last week, I thought I had remembered seeing this, and just finally found it.

I think she may have told her little boy she hit her head as a means of explaining her erratic behavior or confusion to him.

"Mommy hit her head"

A head injury can cause erratic behaviour and confusion.

I have seen the fiance's timeline questioned several times, but he is an avid long distance bicycler. That would make his timeline make more sense, and the wording that he stopped to make a repair on the way.

The other thing I notice is that he drives around with the step father that night, and the following morning *they* drive north up I5 which again makes me think he wasn't in a vehicle of his own.

There are a ton of ads with his phone number with bike equipment, an article written by someone else that did a several hundred mile ride with him, and her myspace blogs discuss her training with him and him getting her a bike for this type of riding.

He rode a motorcycle to step-father's.

1) I am sure the step-father was expecting them, when the fiancee arrived they waited for her together and then drove around together.

2) Good point! I am sure they would have had at least some clothing/toiletries and those must have been taken with them when they left the van.

3) SS probably had directions or knew the address, because Robb called her and got them when he was in Vader. But, it is strange that he was within 10 or so miles of the destination, fixing a mechanical problem, and still did not know his "destination address." I guess it was just luck that she called him with that information at 6:45....?

and that his phone was not dead yet....:)

He was having some good luck that night, her, not so much......:(

ETA; I had posted a couple of times in this case, but then saw the myspaces, and felt guitly and foolish for suspecting the bff.

On her myspace, didn't she state that she just graduated from college?
medical billing, I think.

Why would she relapse after all that work?

And did he say she "borrowed" the van?

Did she not have an auto of her own, or was it broke down?

tia, moo

ETAA; one more thing, when he ended his meeting at 4:30, why did he not call her and let her know?
If he had, he might have thought she left her phone at home.

Is there a law in WA State, unlawful to use cellphones while driving? Couldn't AZ have answered it?

Why would she call him twice, from the home phone to tell him she was leaving, and not remember to take her cell when he asks her to bring his charger? She is on a landline phone, calling him TWICE, but forgets to take her cell???? Did she bring his charger? Was it found in the van?

Man, I hope LE has searched their home.....
I also hope they have searched the area where he said he stopped to do some minor repairs.

And it is completely odd that she would start out without him, when she hasn't seen the stepfather for several years. Why hadn't she seen him for several years?

Ok, one more thing, does anyone know what the "condom hat club" in his group, myspace thing is about?
Is it like the club that JAG and family are in, except with bikes, instead of jogging?
tia
