What the Prosecution Thinks About Media Reporting in this case

  • #181
It is in the latest set of Docs, I saw it myself, The ME had to cut Caylees hair to seperate it from the duct tape

Okay, I had just never heard another news show report that. I still have not read ALL the docs.

Slain means dead. The words are interchangeable.

http://thesaurus.reference.com/browse/slain

Slain's synonyms are killed, fallen, perished, slaughtered, casualty and lost. Which also covers a BROAD spectrum.

No... slain means killed. If it just meant "dead" then why don't they use that word? Most people hearing this or reading this are going to think "murdered intentionally." Everyone is not educated enough to understand the difference in whether it is a noun or adjective.... nor do they care. All they think when they see the word "slain" is that she was brutally murdered intentionally. And that is why the media uses the word... to sensationalize it.
People die from old age or diseases every day... the newspapers don't report them as being "slain."

LP isn't a reporter.

Just like the talking heads and us, he's voicing opinions.

Yep, but that doesn't stop NG from "reporting" what LP says...IMHO.:)

So he texted that to her?

I don't know how he told Casey...only that LE says Tony told Casey she could stay but that Caylee couldn't (because his place wasn't a good place for a child).

The information came out during the big document dump that released Tony's texts to Casey on the day Cindy found her.

Actually evidence is not required for
a GJ indictment.
Strong preponderance.

Actually it is.I have been on enough GJ to know murder1 isnt taking lightly and the GJ has to have the evidence to back it up. Some make it sound like all the GJ has to hear is specualation and that is totally false. As a GJ you are putting someone life in your hands something you have to live with. Might not have to make a vidict but its still a big responsibity.Your not gonna give a murder 1 charge without the evidense to back it up. When I hear the media and lawyers say GJ would indict a ham sandwich thats a load of crap.Give the people on the GJ more credit then that especially with indictments on murder1 where there is a possible DP.Got to love the media though they love to spin

And where was it stated by the ME that she had to cut the hair to remove the duct tape? Is that stated in the autopsy report? Because the only source I have heard that statement from is Nancy Grace. I haven't downloaded all the documents because I have a slow computer, it takes forever.

"Bomb Shell".......NG SOMETIMES isn't sensationalistic, which even "I" must admit she ususally IS....that statement IS made...it's on pg 3168 (bottom of page numbers) of the Jan 21 documents...I'll go back and find it.

I have been searching and I can't find any document where AL tells LE that he told her she could move in but not the daughter. I can't find any document where he says SHE could move in.

That's because there isn't one. IF she had 'moved in' with his consent, why was she locked out for the week that he was away in NY? There is also no evidence of what her original plans were for the evening of June 16, much less that she packed all her belongings after arranging a 'move in' with AL on that day, or that he said Caylee could not move in. I don't know where people get this stuff from.

Agree with you on this one....those assumptions were connecting the dots from a discussion/questions from her friend Iassen in IM's about the seriousness of her relationship and if moving in...and a room mate of AL interview on GVS saying he (AL) wanted boys when he had kids. He (AL) and Casey, IIRC, also might have had that type of hypothetical discussion...like "when you get married and have kids....blah, blah, blah"

NO...actually this came out in a document dump.

Tony specifically said Casey could stay with him while they were talking on June 15 late...and the early a.m. of June 16 because Casey had to move due to fighting and getting a divorce.

He said he told Casey that Caylee couldn't stay because his apartment was not a good place for a child.

I am going through the November documents now. I KNOW this one isn't rumor.

It's not broken if you have a choice. I suppose you'd like to regulate the media and decide what the press can and can't say, at least about this case. So much for a "free" (yet commercial) press.

Complain all you like, but in a commercial environment about the best you can do is complain to advertisers or boycott.

Nope, don't want to regulate the media, but do want to make the police behave in a way that supports our constitution by stopping the release of "information close to the source of the investigation"! Historically, that means LE personnel talking off the record.

Did you not read what the prosecution said about what the media prints/reports? THEY said:

"The media coverage to date has ranged from sensational to speculative to irresponsible to just plain wrong ..."

I personally do not support that type of "NE" reporting!

Several of you have been so sweet to thank me for posting the old videos. It got me thinking how different the times are now with YOU TUBE.
This is the first case I have ever studied like this but I do think the state has an amazing amount to work with, thanks to youtube,

not only Casey;
mom and pop;
each and every one of her lawyers;
even some of her expert witnesses are memorialized on you tube giving conflicting statements

statements that conflict with one another, the proven facts, and even their own prior comments.

They hand the state the impeachment book. In the beginning I was shocked, I would hear MOM AND POP on TV and wonder what in the world are they thinking....

I remember saying to myself, I would not want to be them when Baez sees this fiasco ( news interviews they were giving, they appear a little medicated at best, but hardly credible ).....boy oh boy is Casey's lawyer going to call them and tell the parents ....whatever you do....for the love of God...do not ever make a media appearance and discuss this case. EVER AGAIN, YOU ARE SINKING YOUR DAUGHTER!!!

To my surprise, not only did Baez not right the ship....he steered it further astray. I remember Mr. Ashton, red in the face, yelling, literally in the court.....that Mr. Baez being on national television saying Miss Anthony lied is NOT GOOD FOR HER CASE! ( gag order hearing )
After that public lashing I thought they would reign it in...but no, still no change.

The former death penalty lawyer coming on Nancy and Greta opining that Baez should chose the mental problem approach I thought was malpractice, and I'm just your average citizen.

Everything the state has learned about the defense's witness list it has learned on Nancy Grace. Dr. Lee, for example, shared the little gem that he is indeed working pro bono...putting the Pauper to Princess...where is CA getting the money for this high profile dream team question to bed, at last. Cancel the next twelve hearings...get tape eight!!!
While this may have made Dr. Lee appear noble doing his civic duty, this does not bode well for Miss Anthony. Since lack of pay is clearly not the reason he has never returned to finish his examination of the car....there is only one inference to be drawn by his absence......what he opined about the car does not jive with what the defense is purporting. That is HUGE!!!!!!!

I cannot even comment on the felon, Mr. Cabott. You can't make me. I wont do it. I'll just show you this and say that man needs a good old fashioned .....well MamaBear would tear him up, let's just put it that way. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVATAKaV4HQ[/ame]

Then one evening we have Nancy calling Kobi ( Dr. Kobilinski ) on the fact that he changed his opinion, by about ...hmmm...180 degrees since the last time he was on discussing this case.

Put Kobi up...Nancy begins...
this is the part where the guest gets the lump in their throat..like when you are a kid and your mother calls you by your full name...you know your butt is about to get it...
Kobi, what changed since last week...she didn't give him a chance to answer... Oh yeah , that's right, now you are a paid member of the defense team! Cut to commercial. I spit pop all over my computer. These are educated, experience people....why did Kobi return for that, he had to have known it was coming? Anyone who has ever been on cable tv knows that their recent talks are cued up and good to go when the hosts says ...show us clip eight , Liz in the control room.

So we are talking Dr. Henry Lee and Dr. Lawrence Kobeleski, two world renown experts in their fields...their testimony already useless and we haven't even started the trial....all thanks to their appearances on tv, speaking about this case, hubris, and youtube!!!

They must have a master plan that escapes me, right?

Fast forward to everyone denying that they sent or even had knowledge of Dom going to the woods. Dom says under oath to LE and Federal officers that he had NO IDEA THAT HOOVER WAS TAPING HIM! ( Shhh, don't tell Dom, but the police have already listened to him instructing Hoover where to focus in on, during the tape that they, of course have already thoroughly reviewed ).
Alrighty then.
Somebody should have told Brad, because Brad went on Geraldo with the exclusive video that he insisted Hoover was a thief to try to sell to the networks; because, it belonged to Dominic who was hired by the Anthonys and therefore, of course,he explained to Geraldo "It belongs to George and Cindy, IT WAS PART OF THEIR INVESTIGATION , it is our work product."

Well that one is going to be hard to back out of. The tape of the PI looking in the woods in the spot the baby was found, ( OUT OF ALL THE PLACES IN THE WORLD, NOT IN A DUMPSTER, NOT IN A BOX, NOT IN A CLOSET, NOT IN A POND....IN THE EXACT SAME SPOT THE REMAINS WERE FOUND).... belongs to the parents of the defendant. Why would Brad admit that? Whose side are they on?!!!!!

WTH?!!!!!! YOu just can't make this stuff up!!!!

I thought I had seen and heard it all until Brad sat there and let Geraldo inform us on national television that Dominic was sent to those woods allegedly with maps and graphs*.(*three minute mark ) MAPS AND GRAPHS!!!! If I live to be 100 , I will not stop laughing about that. That is a far cry from dumb luck, Kio or a Genny Lucas having a vision.

What else?

Geraldo, with the subtlety of Sophia from the Golden Girls, loves to let us know he has the inside scoop. He is outraged. I do believe that is the word he used, outraged, that mom and pop went to visit Casey when Baez was out of town. He had left explicit instructions ...no visits and no phone calls , slow and simple he said it....the way a kindergarten teacher may drill it into the students heads, no candy and no toys!!!!!
Hold on to your seat, not realizing that it makes them all look like they are working against one another ( how else do you explain Baez simply not calling up buddy Brad and telling him the time out rule).... Brad agrees with Geraldo. It is an outrage, he concurred. It was a set up Geraldo exclaimed. Indeed it appears that way, Geraldo, our Brad agreed.

My very, very favorite ..ever is Brad in this video saying, " Certainly,....she cannot testify" speaking of Casey. With friends like this, who needs enemies?

Geraldo is such a rich source of this type of footage. It is hard to pick a favorite, indeed, but one of them has to be the time Geraldo asked Baez why in the world he doesn't just have little miss public enemy number one take a plea. With the whole world watching, ( mind you ...this is the guy screaming for a change of venue ) what does Jose respond?
Guess.
Did he smirk at his friend with righteous indignation and angrily state, Geraldo...that is an outrage. Of course she will not take a plea and I wouldn't expect her to, she is innocent!!! INNOCENT, ONE HUNDRED PERCENT!!?

No, he did not. He responded with a heavy sigh , reminiscent of Charlie Brown after Lucy moves the football. Well that would be a decision only Casey can make. I cannot take a plea for her or make her take one, that decision is hers, alone. ( I am paraphrasing) He may as well have had on a matching t-shirt and cap that said you can't win ' em all.

Andrea had lectures released that include her calling folks the dumb jury, killers, opining that female prosecutors wear strap ons and a slew of offensive things. Clearly this worked against Casey because Mr. Ashton referenced these very remarks of hers in his now famous argument to the judge about the killer placing duct tape on the baby. Thanks to our very own Sleutherontheside, we have got Andrea's number, we know what she is going to order for breakfast, how she selects those evening wear hair bows from the Chicago wedding shop around the corner from her office, and she fancies herself as knowing what her power color is. Seriously though... she sets out in her lectures , blow by blow her standard operating procedures which we now check off the list like clockwork and laugh at...for example....her wheel of motions to file. Wow. I think if the judge heard any of these...he is none too amused at the waste of the court's time. It is one thing to not be familiar with Florida law when you practice in Chicago. It is quite another to file them for no reason whatsoever.

There must be a million examples. It is interesting to me that unlike in other times one may have to research for months contrasting statements or mis- steps in a case....now they are all right there at your finger tips, from the horse's mouth...thanks to YouTube and our beloved Patti.

I think it will be a cautionary tale for future lawyers to study. In this age of technology....the only comment you will never regret is ...... we have no comment.

Indeed it was photos the media found of OJ in those "Ugly a-- shoes" that nailed him in the civil trial. If Youtube would have been as widely used then, I imagine he would have been cold busted before the next commercial break!!!!!

Watching CA in that video scratching her neck, leaning forward in her seat, moving her hand on GA's leg, raising her hand, and standing up.......is like watching a caged animal.

I also enjoy Judge Strickland's comment at the end....if I am hearing it correctly he tells CA that "what we're doing now is fighting with one another and I'm going to stop it."

Dear God, here we learn that mom and pop through out in the trash some stuffed animals and toys folks donated for Caylee. Not only did they throw them out....George ran over the bag with his car!!!!
 They could have given them to the battered women and children's shelter, every town has one. This is the kind of stuff that makes people despise these folks.

Here Lee says he was learning for the very first time from the reporter that his sister was to be charged. WHAT?! :banghead:

Too bad the judge didn't gag them all!

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCyiYTXDZhg[/ame] Here Kathi asks Andrea if she really thinks of herself a genius. Too funny.

  • #198
IMO.....every one of those stuffed animals left for Caylee represented to the Anthony's another person who was accepting Caylee as dead. Opinions that contradicted their own or opposed their belief that there was hope, were as unwelcome and useless to them as the animals left.

I am so looking forward to CA's testimony at the trial...she will "absolutely" not be able to contain herself on the stand....especially when the State questions her. I cannot believe how she has the gall to raise her hand, address the judge, stand up, and blather on during a court proceeding. Her sense of entitlement is outrageous! :furious:

I cannot believe how she has the gall to raise her hand, address the judge, stand up, and blather on during a court proceeding. Her sense of entitlement is outrageous! :furious:

I think more than anything, her gall can be attributed to an animal like instinct taking over. She quite possibly, can not restrain herself, and sit by remaining silent. Her innate urge to tell her side, or to comment/ defend is likely impossible for her to restrain. You can see that from the video. While I am no fan or supporter of the A family.....I can't help but wonder if growing up in a household where CA's opinion overruled everything and her opinion outweighed any others, contributed to this disaster. We have so focused our attention on KC and her childhood. We have analyzed the relationship between KC and CA.....I wish we had the ability to go even further back in order to get a better perspective as far as patterns of dysfunction in this family.

I realize that Andrea Lyon preaches the importance of family support in the courtroom. She all but dictates that family members of the accused be there , as their absence may send the wrong message to the jury....but given the clear dichotomy between the Anthony's actions / statements and their knowledge of the truth....I see their presence in the courtroom as counterproductive to the defense strategy. Sitting there....listening to Mr. Ashton......hearing JB eviscerated by the SA (with good reason) does nothing more than pour salt in a gaping wound.

I for one...would like to see them "skip a few hearings" and get their emotional well being in balance. This trial could likely bankrupt them emotionally and financially. Why waste an emotional investment in hearings without a jury?

I wish I were their PR advisor...I would tell them to distance themselves....get a grip on reality...and prepare for the inevitable. NOTHING they do can help KC.....at this point they should be looking at self preservation. If they "lose it" they won't be a help to her anyway.

I wish they would jut stop their efforts to sway opinion. It is counter productive. Whether JB wins a COV or not should not be their concern. The lawyers on both sides will strive to seat an unbiased jury....so the A family antics should not apply.

I'll say this...assuming it will make its way back to the named parties.........Stop worrying about the general public and their perception of you. You would present yourselves in a much better light if you just stop playing games. Your advisers "stink". This is my free advice though I consider it invaluable. You are welcome.
