Twice - don't forget the practise timeline.
Shades of the Ramsey - it's their version of the ransom note.
If my daughter was missing, I'd be running around screaming her name, looking in dumpsters, banging on doors, checking under bushes, scouring the beach. I wouldn't be defacing one of her colouring books so I could invent a "timeline" which had not even been asked for.
For all they knew, theoretically, Madeleine could be discovered any minute curled up in a cupboard somewhere.
So why a timeline? What did it matter at that point? She'd only been gone for an hour and a half at the time of writing it..........!!!!!
:banghead:
Practice timeline? Russel says himself that he wrote it, it was illegible to other people and that not all 9 of them were together at once when it was written. He would have been estimating times and then when others were coming in he was adding/deleting info he had wrong. If they were trying to get their stories straight and had something to hide why would they do this right in front of the GNR and hand over both copies of the timeline?
Russel O'Brien's statement
"this is a draft attempt, theyre both in my handwriting, this is a draft attempt, err and then I think Im transcribing in a slightly more a neater writing, hoping that its more legible for other people to read as well"
"I think what, what essentially Im doing, is Im, Ive written something here fairly quickly for myself and then Ive looked at it and thought its, its not actually gonna be useful to hand to anyone to read other than me"
"Im not sure, I dont know whether this was, this was me trying to get the sort of start and the end together and err and then, and then asked, asked for more, you know more detail of what people were doing. From a personal point of view I suppose once, once I was in the, in the erm room at nine thirty, I wasnt, I wasnt privy to any of the other direct information, so whether this is just sort of me thinking that Ill need to fill this in later, but you know its just a, this is incomplete, this sentence is incomplete and I think at some stage whilst I was writing this, the PJ were very keen to talk to Gerry then I left and I think then Jane came in, so I think this is something that was actually being written at about a point where I left it with the Police and then Jane was, Jane and Gerry were talking to the PJ

"I recall 'baby face' or his colleague saying 'No media', and, and that was full-stop and then turning round to me writing the timeline and saying
'That's what we want"

The police wanted a timeline. Why is is hard to believe that they weren't intelligent enough to know that a timeline was important?
The McCanns felt straight away Madeleine had been abducted so trying to work out what happened when isn't a strange thing to do.
