"Catawba County Sheriff’s Capt. Mark Shook told the Observer that immigration authorities contacted the jail hours after Adam Baker was released and informed them Baker was in the country illegally and should be detained."

So can somebody please explain to me why he is walking around a free man?

Just a thought on that, based on recently released search warrants, the pen register, trap/trace device on his phone. Perhaps it is more in the interest of the investigation to allow him to continue using his cell phone and so on given that LE used a probable cause that he likely has information about both the homicide and the location of evidence.

He may be walking around for now, but I suspect that is quite temporary. Detainment can be accomplished in several fashions. He has no passport and I doubt he does much actual walking around in Hickory.

Thats the same question I was asking above and had a few explanations to, which was a wee bit confusing. If I am clear on this, Immigration is looking the other way until the investigation is over. Why, I do not get. Why he is not being held under illegal alien status, in an American prison, until he is cleared or charged, and then deported at that time if no charges are brought, IDK???

I am thinking "loose lips sink ships". Having AB walking around free but watching and listening to him every step of the way would aid the investigation more than having him in jail.

He can't leave the country and he must be limited financially by what he can do and where he can go. IF there are other locations for remains, he may go there out of remorse.

I appreciate the fact that LE is taking their time to put this case together. There are many facets to bring together, better that it is done right, double jeopardy precludes another chance.

One thing I have wondered; if there is indication of a possible connection w/the man in England, KF, and any pictures/videos of Zahra, wouldn't INTERPOL become involved as well as any US agencies?

Sheriff Joe should be contacted -- you can bet if AB had been in Maricopa County (Arizona) AB would have been detained.

Not sure about the US but here in Canada, there is no way we could hold and detain all of our illegals who are awaiting hearings to see if they are to be deported. There just aren't enough prisons. So none are held...and yes, many just disappear and can't be found when they are ordered deported. It's a bad system.

Here in Louisiana, any illegal having committed a crime stays in jail until that crime is adjudicated and he/she completes the sentence (whatever that might be). Then deportation hearings begin. INS may leave that person at that facility or may transfer them. Either way, the illegal is not just released to the streets.

Adam Baker has been charged with several misdemeanor crimes, and could possibly be indited in a major crime (Zahra). I simply cannot believe he is free to walk the streets of North Carolina. We have no way of knowing just what all Adam Baker may have done, and I certainly would not want this man living next door to me or any of my family.

Adam Baker has clearly lied about when he last saw Zahra, so he is at minimum, an accused petty criminal and a liar, IMO, and who knows what else.

I know the D.A. has to be careful with the charging in Zahra's case, and everyone who had even a small part in Zahra's death/murder needs to be charged. I want whatever charges to stick, but I do wonder what the delay is.

Bottom line; I do not think Adam Baker should be a free man at this point. Maybe the Grand Jury will come up with the needed inditements soon. I just hope that Adam Baker is wondering just when LE will drive up and arrest him.

A question for anyone in Hickory/Granite Falls, North Carolina area, or whatever rock ab's hiding under these days. Does ab have a tracking device/ankle bracelet that monitors his movement?

last report I heard said LE had him under surveilence "for his protection" which I took to mean, they had their eyes on him ostensibly for his safety but conveniently for their investigation.

I can not say for absolutely sure but most of the time in NC an ankle bracelet is used for those who have been charged, found guilty and sentenced to probation.

Sometimes it is used for house arrest but I doubt that would have happened only on minor charges.

From Darlin's link.

The Bakers might have stayed away from medical authorities and other officials because they feared Adam and Zahra could be deported if their immigration status were discovered, according to one of the relatives who spoke on the condition of anonymity

That makes me see red.............

I thought that at first too but then thinking about it one wonders, why, essentially when they had already got away with murder, would they call police with some 🤬🤬🤬🤬-and-bull story about their daughter being kidnapped.

Nothing I can think of is going to bring the department of immigration down on you faster than calling the police and alleging a kidnap of a foreign national. An undocumented child at that. JMO

I agree. But something must have been in their minds that made them think they had to call the police. What was it? Were people beginning to ask about Zahra? They must have been fairly confident that their secret wouldn't be found out.

IMO the reason for the fake kidnapping report was due to the fact that Brittany B. was pressing charges against AB/EB for running her off the road. BB alleged that EB phoned her on Friday night the 8th October (the night before Zahra was reported missing) asking BB to drop the charges. BB refused. Perhaps AB and EB realised then that their past misdemeanors and AB's illegal immigration status would be discovered. If we can believe EB, Zahra was murdered three weeks prior and now they had to account for her whereabouts. I also have a feeling that EB was ready to shoot through to parts unknown either with or without AB.

Zahra's hearing aids were given in May 2010 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. She was also interviewed with EB standing behind her. She , clearly, had medical care in the US and appeared on the telly while getting some of it. So, staying away from medical authorities is silly. Where I live, illegal immigrants get healthcare for their kids, sans a problem.

I've wondered about this, too. The only thing I can come up with that makes any sense is what I've bolded above did take place, and this is the plan they came up with.

Do a fake ransom note and set a fire. While the boss is distracted with the fire, really kidnap his daughter and do away with her. (This could even be a job for the ex-cousin-in-law.) Then when everyone is frantic looking for HIS daughter, come out with, "OMG, MY daughter is also missing!!!" and it looks like something completely different. But boss shows up and BRINGS his daughter with him. Now what, the ransom note had already been discovered. (IDK if the note was found before or after the boss showed up.) They then continued along with the plan, because they were now stuck. The time gap between the fire and the 911 call was them trying to figure a way out of this. Also would explain the 'went to Octoberfest last night' changing to 'haven't seen my daughter since Wed.', their plan fell apart, and they couldn't recoup.

I don't know if this is what happened, but like I said, is all I could come up with that 'fits' what I know or think.

And I have tried to be patient, but really, why is AB not in jail? I keep telling myself not to worry, because IMO they are not going to file charges on AB until they file charges on EB, but with what they have, how hard could it be to get a GJ to indict? And I know, the cops couldn't care less what I think, and I do want them to get their ducks in a row so these people have no chance to get away with what they've done, but it is still so FRUSTRATING!! MLK day on Monday, then no more holiday excuses, LE, git er done!!

Considering all the other charges on EB that keep her in jail, how come AB wasn't put in jail for being illegal, especially since immigration officials notified LE that he should be detained just hours after he had been released on the bad check charges?

My thoughts are that if he was detained, tried on the illegal status, then deported, this would be highly counter-productive to the far more important matter of the investigation of his daughter's death/murder/dismemberment, etc. Having him in the country and free to move about with his day-to-day life has to be a much more efficient way of making their case. They are also able to watch him like a hawk.

BBM I sure hope so!!!
