Missing child alert issued in Manitowoc County for 7-year-old boy last seen in Two Rivers Saturday

Jacob Baer was last seen about 4:36 p.m. at Veterans Park in Two Rivers, according to the Wisconsin Clearinghouse for Missing Persons.

In addition, the ice on the river is very thin and dangerous so we don’t want anyone in those areas as Emergency crews are equipped to deal with these dangers. Helpful things we would ask of the public are checking your property.

Especially the area to the east of the 1800 Blk of School St. We will keep you updated of any developments. Thank you.

Oh, hoping this will not turn out to be yet another child with autism who is lost to a body of water.

Jacob is autistic, he was walking near a woodsy area with his dad. Dad turned away for a moment and when he turned back around Jacob was gone.

That river is just so close to where JB went missing unfortunately. The park looks small, with not too many woodsy areas, and the whole area flat, so it should be fairly straightforward to look for him there, plus in adjacent buildings.It sounds like from fbk that there are many local residents out searching.

Update: We currently have assistance from the Coast Guard Ice Search and Rescue Team on the West Twin River and the WI National Guard providing aerial searching with a helicopter.

In addition, we have the assistance of numerous volunteer and local fire departments and local law enforcement.

Update: The WI DNR is now on the West Twin River assisting with the search. Thank you to the US Coast Guard and WI National Guard for their search efforts. Law Enforcement and local emergency personnel continue to search.

How did Jacob go missing? Who was with him at the park?

He was walking with his dad. The specifics of what happened aren’t clear yet, sounds like a “blink of an eye” the kid ran off thing. Children can be so fast and unpredictable.

It strikes me that this isn’t just children, too. So many end up in the water bodies around here from drinking & jumping or falling in, darkness and/or unfamiliarity with where they are, accidents, etc. I’m not sure what the solution is.

Update: Law enforcement located several items believed to belong to Jacob in the water of the West Twin River last night. Early this morning the DNR identified an area of interest in the water near these items during their search. A search of this area of interest and additional resources are being coordinated for operations later this morning. We will update you with further information as it becomes available. He’s so cute. I live in Minnesota, and yesterday I went for a 5 mile walk outside super bundled up. It took me hours to warm up afterwards. Unfortunately, it’s bitterly cold. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

UPDATE: Items believed to belong to missing 7-year-old found in West Twin River

Jacob Baer was last seen in Veteran’s Park at 1818 School Street in Two Rivers around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Our reporter on the scene says searches have continued Sunday morning around 8:45 a.m. on the West Twin River. Boats launched from the shoreline about an hour later.

... Authorities on scene said the boy was walking with his father when he wandered off near a wooded area when the father looked away for a second.
