You may be right that the context was benign, but in our current state of 'alternative linguistics', you have to wonder if this is an early attempt at spin. That would be pretty yucky, indeed.

"Unfortunate Affair"?! WTH?!

He is a murderer, psychopath who kidnapped and kept a child a prisoner, for months, until she escaped, running for her life.

He killed two people, during a home invasion, and ripped a young woman from her bed at night.

I don't want him to be "humanized". He is a barbaric killer. Society is fortunate that Jayme escaped, and the killer is behind bars, forever, I hope. LWOP!

I finally give up on getting caught up on everything before posting. Just a few things to add to the 1000s pf things already said (and hopefully not repeating m/any.)
As hard as this will be on her, I think that JC has one thing in her favor that a lot of girls in her position don't. While it would be very easy for her to think of herself as a victim, and develop a victim mentality, her escape and "rescue" of herself should give her more of a survivor mentality. I believe that it will help her immensely to be able to tell herself that whatever life throws at her, she can handle it. MOO

A couple of other, less related things, which many may disagree with: I haven't heard that his brother was involved in any way, so I hope people are done sleuthing him. I also disagree that it's bad for the media to "humanize" JP. The fact is that he is a human, even if people don't like to see him that way. By humanizing him, the media is also reminding people that there are "humans" out there who are capable of unimaginably evil acts, and that you shouldn't believe anyone is incapable of these things just because they seem perfectly normal to you. I believe that if more people realized that, there might be more credible tips when these crimes happen. Right now, most of us think "it couldn't be So-and-So who did it, he's just a nice guy who doesn't socialize much", etc. MOO

What an Excellent and Lovely Thought! Thank You for sharing that!

It is doubtful this case will go to trial anytime soon. The murder case alone will take a while, probably.

Any idea if they will try the kidnapping and both murders together?

True.

I believe both will be tried at the same time as they are part of the same "event".

So: I have a super new phone which is infuriating to figure out
& a super old computer

I cannot quote & I cannot see usernames or read quotes: just who said them...but: did read something about a quote of mine that is super ancient (like this morning lol)

I am full of B.S. about JP being at the hospital (unless he was a patient) - at the time I thought the loser had a job

I still hold out on the casino connection: this last July both he & Jayme had milestone birthdays - she 13 (finally a teen) and he 21 (need I say more?)

Utter wild speculation that somehow he saw her at the casino in July: frequently folks cannot celebrate their birthdays on the exact day: it isn't convenient: maybe they both found themselves there on a weekend celebrating their respective birthdays: that is when he saw her

I just went to close all my blinds. I never do ... but.

So sorry, bellyup- this is a very unlikely and isolated crime. It shouldn’t be the norm and affect every day for most of us. It just makes me wonder how he came to know Jayme was in the house, and when he knew the right time to hit. She was the target, fwiw. I tend to leave blinds open for my plants and so my cat can look out. It’s not fair for you, or anyone else, to have to worry about these things,

It’s been an amazing couple of days and so great she was found. I appreciate that great team who brought her in big shoes to the police and to her awesome family.

Awww, man - I hate to hear that you're spooked. Following these cases definitely has an impact, and it can be negative. I've caught myself on edge several times during this horrible case, and I know that wouldn't be the situation if I wasn't so invested emotionally and intellectually in wondering exactly what happened in that Closs home on that terrible night. It hammers on the subconscious.

Since we have a couple of attorneys posting here now, let me throw this out there -

Do you think there will be additional charges piling up as this moves along, or will they just keep it at the homicide and kidnapping charges?

I wanted to comment on these photos. It's so great to see them, but I hope someone is working with them on how to proceed. I think it's weird that these photos are in People. I worry about exploitation and also Jayme being a sort of public figure now. Were others, such as Elizabeth Smart, in magazines right after she was found? Maybe I' being overprotective.

Canceling rage mode due to article using a piss poor choice of word. I apologize for over reacting.

I went looking for the attorneys for Jake Patterson and found Charles Glynn and Richard Jones.

Now I'm curious as to how a 21yo recluse with no employment or employment history hired two attorneys?

My feeling is there will be additional charges. Not sure what they would be, but the major ones are filed.

They helped rescue her. They came as quick as they could and whisked hew away from the danger that she was still in. They protected the family and neighbor that helped her, while searching for him. They found him within minutes and safely arrested him. So they aided in her rescue, after he escape. JMO
Yes indeed. And LE deserve the credit for it as well. They were definitely working on AND emotionally invested in this case all along. It was difficult to solve, being that there was no connection to the family, for one. I congratulate them.

Yes, I get what you're saying.
My point was that she saw an opportunity and took it. So that was Jayme being brave.

Would a 13 yr old be able to celebrate her birthday at a casino? In Cali, you need to be 18 to go to the Indian Casinos. And 21 for the ones giving out liquor. A 13 yr old wouldn't be allowed.

Sounds like there won't be any more arrests.
Hope he enjoys the rest of his life in a cage.
