Yes I know that but if they searched immediately after discovering the absence of Jayme surely it would have included the next property? But no knowledge of police presence until next morning? So no search extended to the next property for hours?
So a child goes missing in the early hours of the morning after the dreadful murder of her parents and police do not go next door?

Yes, it does sound like that! Maybe we should stay away from analyzing the dispatcher log.

This info was from an interview w the Sheriff, but he was only confirming the log. Or was confirming that officers believed that to be the case initially. He would not clarify further after that.
What is important to me is who kicked in the door.
If officers, the drug-fueled or frenzied perp is out the window.
If dad, the perp(s) were there longer.
If perp(s), drugged(?), desperate, deliberate, anger-fueled.

Based on the evidence that we are aware of, it’s possible that he never opened that door.

Him opening that door is not excluded though. We can’t say with any degree of certainty if he cracked the door or not.

The gun could have been concealed by the perpetrator, perhaps near his legs, propped against a wall, or hidden from sight in some other manner.
I don't think we can exclude it either. He may have recognized the voice and answered before realizing the person had a gun. Jmo

At what point do each of you consider a case to become a " cold case"?
Is it:
When LE says " case has gone cold" or " case is with cold case detectives"?

When it stops being in the news?

When people stop searching?

When no one issues any statements because there's nothing new to say?

When YOU feel it's a " cold case"?

Other?

Will someone correct me if I misread the latest information.

Is LE looking for a Monte Carlo now instead of a Dodge Challanger? Is there a picture? TIA.

Depending on how the call was dispatched, they may have gone with just lights, no siren. After the initial response there would have been no reason for sirens. Just a thought?
It is always possible. It does vary from call to call how law enforcement responds. My line of thinking is that once it was known that shots had known to have been fired units dispatched after the initial three - the Emergency Response Team - would be getting there in a hurry and making a lot of noise in doing so. I could be wrong.

When LE says " case has gone cold" or " case is in cold case status"

I consider a case cold when all leads have been exhausted.

This case ain’t cold yet.

I agree, it's not a cold case. I was asking because someone had said " This case is going to go cold unless...." and it made me stop and wonder how each of us defines " cold case" status. ;) Thanks for your post!

No. They are still looking for the same vehicles.

A Monte Carlo was pulled from the water
in Oshkosh which is a few hours drive from Barron.

Some people speculated that it may be the car LE was looking for.

They have been very specific in the manufacturer, model, and production period of that red car (Dodge Challenger).

This is almost certainly unrelated.

<modsnip - quoted post has been removed>
Perhaps at one time someone was going to reply to something you said, they changed their mind but the quote was still saved as a draft. Then, when replying to someone else your post became part of that reply and the person posted didn't fully remove your post, removed the wrong post, or otherwise messed up the whatever they were attempting to do.

Edited to Add: If you will notice because there was an extra "close qoute" after the word delete, it appears as if part of my response to you. I could have cleaned that out but then you wouldn't see how things can get out of whack and be able to imagine what else could go wrong with a post.

Edited again to repair the broken quote.

I'm so sorry if I didn't state my question in the right way. I've only been able to go to one funeral in my lifetime, my grandmother's when I was 14, and I've obviously had very dear friends and close family who passed away since.
I cannot bear the formal rituals of death when the people I loved had such a fun and vibrant time in life. This is a long-standing " failure" of mine, but I've had to accept it. I know the flowers and words bring comfort to many people, but not to me, personally. It's just sadder. I find ways to honor their living that would be special to them, and hope those around me understand.

Thank you so much for your answer. I have the utmost love and caring for the Closs family and wish so much this tragedy hadn't decimated them.
I thought your inquiry was nothing short of respectful. I just don't understand why media intrudes on the family and friends with cameras in tow.

Monte Carlo may not be related at all.
2004 red orange Monte Carlo found in water in Osh Kosh, WI. No occupants. 3 1/2 hr drive from Barron.

Had yellow grease pencil numbers on it like it was being sold at auction. Looked new.

<modsnip - quoted post removed for rumor>
You have to reach a certain body temperature to be considered deceased, no? Or there had been not official time of death called. I know this was true for a relative. She died at home, but officially in the ambulance.

As above, so no search for the killer or missing Jayme took place in the neighbour's garden?
I don't remember hearing the word "garden." I certainly could have missed it. What I do know is that it was reported their home and yard were searched.

"In the days since, investigators from the FBI to local law enforcement have searched the Smrekar’s home and yard along with the those of their neighbors looking for clues."

It does not go by temperature. If there is no heartbeat the person is not alive. The body can stay warm for awhile. Jmo

TY! I can see how that could happen.

Just a shout out to Whiskers 16 who has been our 'everything'. Thank you so much for all you do. Much appreciated!

Has anyone considered the possibility James answered the door with his own gun in hand? The perp killed him and took his gun. That's why there were no guns in the house and also why they are not revealing the caliber and kind of gun.
Also maybe Jayme was taken because in the violent rampage the perp became sexually aroused, so he took her at that point, not being the original intent.

Okay, but the neighbors say they wouldn’t open the door in the daytime when they were bringing them their mail. If they are that skittish, why go to door at 12:30 at night?

I don't put any stock into what they had to say at all except hearing the two shots.

This family seemed to be a typical family who worked long hours and had a daughter that was very active in school. So they lead busy lives.

Maybe the family had something they didn't care about when it came to these next door neighbors? It happens.

I am certainly not going to rely on someone who doesn't even know the family.

No one else has described this family the way the neighbor has. The unnecessary add ons don't carry any weight with me.

Those who actually do know them tell a much different story.

I believe he would open the door though No one expects something like this to ever happen. They had lived there for many years and had been safe all those years.

If he was able to close the door the 2 shots could have been the invader shooting the wood door jam splintering the wood and destroying the lock. Once it splintered the hole where the lock holds it shut would no longer do so. Imo.

Even cops have breached doors this same way. Now they use some type of smaller battering ram equipment that bursts the door frame away from the door so it swings open.

If this home invader did go up to this home and began immediately shooting the door jam and lock to get into this home ....without the usual ruse of knocking on the door first...then forcing their way in.. then that would make him even more predatory and even more psychotic and dangerous than I had first thought.

If that truly is what happened and James rushed to his door that was being shot up and was immediately shot once the suspect swung the door open that is even more chilling if possible.

It shows this was done by a methodical cold unfeeling..unrelenting... psychopath imo.

Do we know if they searched their car? And apart from the Smrekar's are there any other near-neighbours in the vicinity that have been mentioned? I have only heard about the Smrekar's so far.
