I'm just curious. The comment about Denise's sister calling her at 830pm as normal: what happens at 830pm? Does sister get off work, put her kids to bed or, is Denise getting off work or getting Jayme to bed? Are they getting home from mass at 830pm? (Idk times for mass, not Catholic) I usually call my grandmother at 8am bc I'm headed to work and know I wont have time to during the day & she'll be asleep later. Is there significance in 8:30pm. What normally happens at or near tht time, is this when Denise & jayme arrive home on Sunday evenings? JMO ALWAYS.

I agree with you. I always hear from my sister when she is waiting to pick her granddaughter up from school. That's just our personal pattern. Obviously, Denise and her sister also had a pattern. Perhaps they spoke every evening before retiring for the night...who knows. What is interesting though is that the sisters spoke at 8:30 that evening and everything seemed normal. So within a time frame of just a few hours, it seems that all hell broke loose without even a hint of trouble prior to that, according to the sister.

When a new news article contradicts what LE has been saying, usually it's the news article that screwed up.
Having been victim to that, it sounds rude but sometimes journalists do it to try to get someone to contact them and set the record straight.

With exceptions to the state meets at the end of the season, Cross Country, for our kids, started two weeks before school started (in August) and always ended on Halloween. It was a huge event, that Halloween meet- so many spectators! Then there were state meets after Halloween- two or three of them, I believe- also, lots of spectators there. You would never know if people there were actually family and friends supporting the kids/teams, or they were an SO.

Winter Indoor Track starts up, but the runners do run outside in the winter months for training as well.

Track and Field is also outdoor running, hurdles, and several fielding events, where daily practices are a must.

Hope this helps!

This is in Barron? Where I lived in MN, track and field was a spring sport. Have no idea of cross country.

Jayme was only 13. The high school sports are a lot different than middle school sports.

I think someone posted a schedule ?

Yes, I think so, too. A sudden ambush late at night when no one was expecting it (and everyone probably had gone to bed). It put the victims at a distinct disadvantage. Plus, it would be dark, late, with few vehicles on the road. So, yes, I can see the logic for the killer(s) acting when they did.
I don't buy it. Kids are alone a lot at that age. Walking to dance class, walking to her aunt's after school. There is always an opportunity, especially if you have a gun. If in fact Jayme was that elusive, why not move to a different target? The only reason I could see was that the person was familiar with her, which would likely make abduction even easier.

I think some comments were taken out of context " Denise Smiled" sounds like tht was a rare occassion the way it's written. IMOO, but all accounts say she was sweet & kind and happy Idk It's possible James was there during a time the grandfather was not there. Maybe only briefly to drop them off and left or to bring something to Denise? That could be a real possibility.
MOO AND JMO but: does it concern anybody else, that in a lot of the photos Jayme can barely look up she is so shy? I've never met a child that shy. Who's behind the camera for those pics? Her younger photos she seems more open. I do wonder if something happend to make her painfully shy. I have seen toddlers hide behind a parent, just seems odd IMOO.
(Edited in an attempt to fix the grammar, gave up, hope it makes sense lol)

I thought the same thing when I read the “Denise smiled” comment.

Also agree about Jayme appearing shy in photos. Along with the photographic evidence Jayme has been described as being shy in quite a few references.

Truly I wouldn’t be surprised at all if this does turn out to be some person she “met” online in a chat room who deceived her. Predators capitalize on shy and inexperienced young people. Was she rather sheltered, as only children often are?

Has it been reported anywhere that she had close girlfriends her age? I know she participated in dance and cross country, but did she have a friend or friends who hung out with her? Or was she perhaps lonely at times and spent time online seeking social interaction? Yes, they were a close family and extended family but did she have close girl friends too, which is very different than hanging out with family and caregiver.

My own opinions.

if it is a sudden ambush why aren't dad and mom just shot in their bed or near their bed? why would someone come in like it seems, fast and LOUD, why not just quiet and precise?

I get hung up at different points each time I try to reason this whole thing out. today I am hung up at the front door, that is where it seems the first violent contact was made I cant move on from there without understanding at least some part of it.

I struggle with that as well, but I think it’s because you want to separate them so you can take out the one (bigger, stronger?) person first, then the other.

I don't understand why a more recent pic of Jayme isn't used - the Dateline image shown in previous post...?

She is younger in those pics...she really doesn't look like that anymore. There are two from the day she went missing, correct? One wherein she looks incredibly pensive & introspective and one was a full body pic. Both of those & perhaps her current school pic which they had received that day according to Jayme's aunt, would be better.

She does have plenty of pics where her smile looks forced, doesn't reach her eyes. Her habit mostly is to lower her head when she is genuinely smiling. These 'fake' smile pics seem to be more recent. Doesn't mean anything necessarily....

Also wish they would use a non-smiling pic, like the ones I already mentioned. She's unlikely, if seen in public, to be giggling & laughing.

Sorry if being snippy - just has bothered me from the get-go

Also agree, unless hes got a theory we dont know about that the timeline dont matter, or that revealing it would hinder his case. My main question though is why he answered "i dont know" when asked if James was at the casino that day? Because he surely does know. I just found it out of the ordinary for that particular part of the conversation.
That didn't strike me as unusual. There are tons of people working on this case. It's possible that he really didn't know for some reason whether James had been at the casino that day or not. To me that means either the possibility is irrelevant or, to reveal that might hinder the case.

I keep thinking there had to be more going on at the front door than a knock. I cant see just rolling over out of bed and going to the door and if looked out a window first the person on the other side must have been known. I also cant see if was awake and heard a gun being chambered just going to the door. all I can see is if the door was actively being broken into either from kicking or a shot maybe just reaction to try to stop it or could someone have claimed a emergency, maybe yelling at the door or maybe we have the whole picture wrong of how father gets at the front door and it has nothing to do with answering the door. what would get a person to answer or even consider answering enough to be that near the door at that hour?

I can only go by what my husband does if he hears a noise. He looks out windows to see if he can figure out what is going on.

I cannot imagine anyone going boldy to answer a door at that hour, There had to be some exploration at first, I think.

What if the person hollered they had an accident? Would he simply go to the door or think he should go help?

Sorry, but its been a month. If he truly doesn't know if James was at the casino that day, he is the worst sheriff ever.

A family member confirmed on another page that this was incorrect and James was NOT at the party. The rest of the information is correct according to the family member. Family said a dateline episode will be on, however not sure of the date.
Do you have a link for that?

If he did work a late shift its quite possible that he was in that front room winding down. You hear a knock you answer, just so they don't wake the sleeping family.

seems to me that either the killer wanted the parents to be very aware of what was happening or was such a hothead that they didn't even think that far. I think was either known to family or claimed a emergency. if they knew something was happening even for seconds I think mom would have gotten a call in faster. unless it was someone they knew.

The NBC article now says, "Editor's Note: A previous version of this article stated James Closs was at the family gathering in Barron, Wisconsin on Sunday, October 14. James Closs was not at the family gathering; he was at work."

Article has at least been updated (in the last 10 minutes or so maybe?).

Investigators no closer to finding missing teen Jayme Closs whose parents were found dead in Wisconsin home

On a Sunday nearly one month ago, Jennifer Smith held a birthday party for her grandson at her Barron, Wisconsin home. Jennifer’s sister Denise Closs, who lived just a couple of miles away, came to the party with her 13-year-old daughter, Jayme. Jim Closs, who is Denise's husband and Jayme's father, was at work.

...

Editor's Note: A previous version of this article stated James Closs was at the family gathering in Barron, Wisconsin on Sunday, October 14. James Closs was not at the family gathering; he was at work.

It would be nice to find out these details from the police, not Dateline.

This falls in line with a question I had about his Dryden interview. Fitzgerald said he has (or is working on) a timeline of their whole week leading up to this night. Someone asked a question about that day and he said he knows about the party, what time they left, and where they went afterward. (Clearly speaking of Jayme and Denise). He says something to the effect of, theres no reason to release that days timeline because theres nothing the public could offer from it that would help the case. But then....someone asks if James was at the casino that day and he says he dont know. ?? If he has a timeline, does it not include James? If not, why? If it does include James, did 'I dont know' mean the same as 'no comment'? He surely has a yes or no answer to that question.
Totally bewildered at his "I don't know" answer to whether or not James was at the casino. With all the security cameras in the casino, this should be the easiest question to answer at this time JMO.

In those two cases, who was responsible? Friend? Acquaintance? Stranger?

Strangers broke in on Jennifer Short's family and Shasta Groene's family. In the Lauria Bible/Ashley Freeman case (both parents killed, girls abducted and murdered), it was an acquaintance.

ETA:Actually we don't know who did the Jennifer Short crime. It remains unsolved.

In a town where you pretty much know everyone, and there have been only like four murders over the last ten years, I honestly think the last possibility in your head when you hear something going on at the front door is...’gee, I wonder if that’s a person that is going to kill me and my wife and abscond with my daughter?’ I think it’s way more likely to think, ‘is that an animal on the porch again?’

I very much agree with a previous poster that said it is very sad and tragic that this hardworking father and husband had to lose his life on his own doorstep.
