IMO it is riskier to have a child with you than leave the child to give some vague description of your face. Eye witness testimony is notoriously unreliable.

Unless this child knows exactly who you are, then she'd have to either die or go with you.

I am seeing a jerk coming in to grab Jayme, Mom wakes up and he holds both females hostage by gun point. Dad comes home and Jayme and Mom hear car and start yelling. The door is locked and James kicks it in and is shot on the spot while Mom rushes to help and she is immediately shot. Jerk ties Jayme to chair while he thinks what to do. He has not done what he intended to do with Jayme so he takes her...as they leave one of the parents is able to dial 911 before death.

If those are cushion ties on the chair where would the actual cushion be?

What if the person arrested at the residence half a mile away isn’t connected to this case but the residence itself is connected? Drugs bring in a lot of people passing through.
It’s a half a mile away I think I read earlier. That’s about 900 yards. I also wonder if the perp could have traveled on railroad tracks by foot or atv. Or down the power lines.
I just can’t help but feel it’s connected. They go there to buy drugs, get into a confrontation, flee, end up at Jayme’s house trying to hide. Paranoid. Raging. Whatever.

Welcome to Websleuths!

Or what if the perps went to the wrong house?

I didn’t really think they did. The casino has been on my mind though. The time I mentioned visiting one in MN, my local friends told me how tight security was and not to try any funny business (as if I would anyway). That they take their protocol very seriously. Jmo

That implies the area maybe loaded with cameras, perhpss even as far out as the road

Wow. I’m agreeing.

Not if you are known to the child who can accurately identify you.

Then you kill the child. There is no reason to abduct a child unless you are interested in possessing the child.

I am sure there are cameras outside and the building itself sits very close to Highway 8.

There has been a lot of discussion about the chair that was removed from the house. Is it possible that someone in the house grabbed the chair to try and protect themselves or hide behind it?
What a horrible thing to have happened to this family. It just makes me sick to think about it.

My guess would be that the 911 with no person to speak and no answer when called back might be a common indicator of a possible suicide until more is known.

But I just can't see the part about answering the door meaning that James answered the door to the arriving officers. It must mean that they assessed the situation and determined that the unresponsive 'down' man had answered the door to the perp. Especially since they note that the door was kicked in.

In the back and forth about whether James was already home or not, I was wondering what clothing he was wearing when he was found, eg work clothes vs pajamas. JMO he was wearing pajamas or "home clothes" and barefoot or socks as opposed to work boots. JMO LE presumed he answered the door because of his position and also his attire.

He would have a key for his locked door.

The closest neighbor is ~250 yards away. There are 2 others ~300 yards away and some more around 400 yards. I don't know which of these are the ones that heard the gunshots, but whoever did was no closer than ~250 yards

I'm just measuring straight line distance on Google Maps

That’s a lot of woods.

If the chair pierced by bullets, it's possible LE only wanted chair, and removed and/or cut the chair pad and bagged for evidence

Please continue the discussion here and remember that Jayme is a 13 year old child and is a victim.
Jayme is the victim until LE says otherwise

Where can one see the chair everyone keeps talking about? I've not been able to find it in a google image search as yet...

Is it unusual that it took an hour and a half to change call from suicidal person/attempted suicide to homicide?

But in the case of urgency would a strong man bother with keys?
I guess I am paranoid I always approach my front door with the key out

The dog that was posted on Jayme's FB page was a tiny little yorkie mix, lap dog size. No threat to a grown person with evil purposes. One kick with a steel toe would have silenced it. Kinda leans towards someone who knew the family and likes dogs and kids.

Yes, the compassionate killer (s).
