I think maybe they should withhold the shooter’s name. Give them no public coverage. Maybe that would deter the next could-be shooter. Nothing in it for them, not even infamy.

Three people, including the shooter (a teenage student) dead.
Teacher and another teenage student are the other two deceased.
They are not releasing the gender or age of the shooter at this time.
Two in critical condition - I missed the rest due to my grandpuppy barking.
Currently processing the scene, interviewing witnesses, and getting search warrants.

That's what was reported. LE never fired a shot.

Watching the presser. Unusual that they won’t say if the shooter is male or female. Maybe a gender issue that was troubling the perp??

I really cannot understand why the easy, concrete and tangible things are not done.

Metal detectors at the school doors with an LE officer or school resource officer supervising.

Parents locking up their guns in a foolproof safe.

The intangibles at the heart of these tragedies, the troubled people who turn to violence, are not always known in time. But some simple safety measures are worth it.

My school did not have metal detectors. The only time we went through the students’ backpacks was on Halloween so they didn’t bring eggs.
However, my eldest granddaughter’s high school did have metal detectors even though it was in a better neighborhood.

It doesn’t feel like a fortress. Kids get used to it, although they complain when it’s cold outside and the line is long.

IMO that is far the lesser of the evils.

ETA just now the police chief is saying he’d rather schools not have metal detectors. I get he doesn’t want an atmosphere like that, but which scenario is worse?

Family of suspected shooter is cooperating with police, police chief says

The family of the student suspected of opening fire at a Madison, Wisconsin, school on Monday is cooperating with police, police chief Shon Barnes said.

Earlier in the news conference, Barnes said the suspected shooter was a student at Abundant Life Christian School, but declined to give any other identifying details.

The alleged shooter was found dead at the school, police said previously.

My first thought was if she is female then it’s maybe more likely that the other student was her specific target. The teacher could have just got in between them. She didn’t have to be stopped by the police, suggesting she didn’t try to hurt as many people as possible. Just a thought. Total speculation.

The fact that two others are critical makes me think her plan was a bit broader than a single specific target.

She could have also just been a bad shot, so who knows.

I was thinking the same thing. I think the others were just lucky to not be hit fatally. Praying for those in critical condition still.
