Maybe someone in Wisconsin could enlighten us - on
Google Maps, where exactly is 'Pier 5' on Jones Island
located?

This is Jones' Island: Google Maps

It's not really an island now, more like a peninsula; the water gap separating it from the mainland was filled in many many years ago. I'm not sure which pier is #5. This Facebook post from the Wisconsin Marine Historical Society identifies it as the tanker/liquid cargo pier, which I think would make it the long thin one at the south end: Log into Facebook

Here's a map of the present area: Port Property Map

I did find some cool photos of the history of the harbor area. Some of them show what it would have looked like in the 1970s. It's mostly industrial wasteland now, but it was still a busy harbor when Mrs. Emiliano was found. A photographic history of Milwaukee's Harbor and Jones Island

Another bit of history I ran across was about the fishing village that used to thrive there: The story behind Kaszube's Park: Milwaukee's smallest, strangest piece of public land

By 1870, Kashubian people, who emigrated to the United States from a European region that’s now northwest Poland (and was known as “Kashubia” and “Pomerania” at the time), flocked to Jones Island....the City Of Milwaukee finally took measures to evict Jones Island’s residents in 1920. Still, some Kashubians stayed more than two decades after the city stepped in…but not many.

carbuff, the facebook post you cited;
facebook.com/WisconsinMarineHistoricalSociety/posts/on-this-day-912-in-1951-milwaukee-dedicated-its-new-tanker-pier-it-was-1100-feet/1800031153456105/
allows us to be pretty sure that 'Jones Island Pier 5'
is the 'South Pier No. 5' mentioned therein - given it
mentions it's 50 ft wide, that's the width of only
this pier;
NETRonline: Historic Aerials - Viewer

http://milwaukee-city-test.milwauke...ortAuthors/PDF/113303PortMilBrochurePROOF.pdf

According to a webpage I can no longer locate, by
about 1970, Pier 5 was little used as land pipelines
had largely taken over as the method of oil and fuel
trans-shipment (although there was an uptick in
Pier 5 usage about 1980 for the shipment of ethanol).

Looking at the 1971 historicaerials link above, it
appears the shore frontage up to the pier was used
for car parking, probably mainly for day workers
off over in the tank farms.
So if you wanted a quiet place to go into the water
in 1974, where no-one was likely to see to raise any
alarm or come in after you, then Pier 5 would be
suitable.

(Note; Reading and looking at the picture in this;
Bridge to Nowhere! A Brief History of the Hoan Bridge Part II
although the Daniel Hoan Memorial Bridge at the north
end of Jones Island was completed in 1974, the present
day I-794 roadage south of the bridge appears to have
stalled in construction, until 1975. So in 1974, if
construction of the roadage had stalled, that area
adjacent to pier 5 appears to have been a suspended
construction site.)
-----

necco and webrocket's research here;
WI - WI - Milwaukee, Fem UP7792, 40-60, 'Emiliano 28-1-1953' on ring, May'74
about the Emiliano Velez who died in January 1971
still seems the best avenue of enquiry as a possible
relative. Note that although he is noted as having
resided in postcode 53204, close west of Pier 5,
this website;
Milwaukee County Cemetery Records, Wisconsin | Genealogy
does not seem to have a record of him being buried
in Wisconsin.

Oooh, good followup.

I agree Mr. Velez seems to be the most likely candidate.

That's interesting about 'Anthony of Padua' as the Wiki states;
"He typically appears carrying the infant Jesus and holding a cross."
The medal does appear to have him carrying a block of
wood that could be a cross and there appears to be
somebody laying sideways on that cross (not a
Crucifixion scene, possibly the Virgin Mary?) holding
something in their arms (baby Jesus?). Also, the top of
the head of the individual on the right appears as may
be consistent with the hair being cut in a Franciscan
friar tonsure. Also, there may be seen what could be a
turned down hood about his shoulders.

However, it seems unlikely the person 'Emilio' on the
marriage certificate is same person, due to the different
spelling of 'Emiliano' on the ring.

We identified the saint very early on in the thread (#2) as most likely to be Saint Aloysius Gonzaga.

1940 census with the name Emiliano Velez y Gonzalez. Fathers name consistent with obit. No mother listed in obit info but same name shared by sister in obit and mother in census. I suspect an error somewhere but too close not to assume it’s the same Emiliano.

Hadn't seen this mentioned anywhere in the thread. Emiliano Vargas and Ysabel Lopez married in Mexico on January 28, 1953. She's a little younger than the estimated range, but a hard life and significant decomposition can make age estimation difficult. I'm going to try to find more info on this couple -- I'd appreciate any help!

I wonder if "Ma Isabel" is a shortened version of "Maria Isabel"

I found something that might be relevant, but I don't know enough about Latino naming conventions to be sure. I know the first surname is paternal, second is maternal, but I'm confused about Emiliano. Would he be Vargas Felix or Vargas Lopez? Would Isabel's married name be Vargas Lopez or would she take Emiliano's surnames? I'm also working with Google translate, so if any Spanish speakers can better translate... Relevant sections snipped by me:

DOF: 06/07/1976
RESOLUTION on recognition and titling of communal assets of the town of San Mateo, Municipality of Acaxochitlán, Hdo
The 158 community members found in the census are:
116.- Emiliano Vargas López
DOF - Diario Oficial de la Federación

There's an Isabel Vargas but she's Isabel Vargas Jimenez, and I'm assuming she's not the same woman. If our Isabel isn't listed in this document, does that mean she's not in Acaxochitlan anymore? Would she be counted in this census if she didn't own property/land?

I was looking at the watch. It could be nothing of course, but I am reading R 1/2, and at first I thought it said Norwegianoa...or something, but when I zoomed in it looked more like Nouvagianoa...I am unable to make out the last letter.

Brand: Bradley, Swiss made, Walt Disney production.

It appears the mickey mouse design was fairly recent, since the one in 1972 had a more old-fashioned style to it, whilst around, cirka 1975, Mickey Mouse took on that pink face, and rounder shape that we are familiar with today.
So this watch is from somewhere between 1972 and 1974 when she died.
