When asked if the body showed any signs of trauma the sheriff answered "no comment"

Also said child was reported an hour and a half later by a FISHERMAN. I thought the Father reported her missing? I am usually not one to be sceptical of these reports, but something is amiss here I think. I certainly want to think this is truly an accident, but reading between the lines and watching body language, I am thinking something could possibly have happened with foul play. Also the mention of the car is strange too at a press conference.

ON top of that, if your 3 yr old has just been returned to you, by a neighbor who lives a mile away, do you then leave your little wanderer outside by herself again? Wouldn't you bring her inside while you get the drink? It makes no sense, imo.

Amen. I'd be her shadow 24/7 if that's what it took to keep her safe.

I had an adventurous, fearless, 3 year old boy who thought it was cool to open the door and go outside when I was in the other room. Thankfully, he was right outside the door when I found him. I wasn't surrounded by water and dense woods. I was a stressed out, worn out, single, 23 year old mom with my hands full but all it took was once. I scooped him up, headed straight for the hardware store and installed a lock at the top of the door that he couldn't reach.

It doesn't sound like she "escaped" from the house but allowed to play with the dog outside, unsupervised, AND surrounded by water- which is even worse IMP. There is no excuse and I can't help but be furious.

My boy is 22 now, still fearless and adventurous...he didn't make it easy on me by any means but no one said it would be easy. I wouldn't trade a minute (well, maybe just a few). Counting my blessings even more today.

Sceptical yes. Who mentioned the car? And... have we still not been given the name of the father? I find that unusual.

The baby walks a mile, and no telling how long she was outside playing before she made it that far, so Dad decides that HE needs something to drink? What about Reena? She was probably tired and thirsty, maybe dehydrated too!

:maddening:

The sheriff's office received the missing child report around 7 p.m. Tuesday. Renna allegedly wandered away from her home in search of a dog. The home is located on a 40-acre island in the middle of Yellow River.

BBM

What does that mean she wandered off ' in search of a dog?'
Her dog was missing? Did dad know the dog was missing?

You definitely want to watch the press conference here: http://kstp.com/news/stories/S2728731.shtml?cat=1

I noted a couple things.... they notified most of the family immediately and then notified the mother once she could be found (or located). That was weird.

A fisherman called 911 after they (family?) asked him if he had seen Reena. Wonder what made him call.

The comment about the car had something to do with a camper in the area with no camping gear.

Reporters asked if Reena had clothing on when she was found and the LE spokesman said he could not say. Not sure if he meant he didn't know or could not answer the question. He would not comment on the condition of her body.

He choked up a few times. So sad!

Maybe the fisherman thought they should have already called the police, so he decided to call.

So...I'm wondering if after the neighbor returned Renna, did one of her parents completely lose it with her. Was Renna dead before she ever entered the water? kwim

I don't believe she was searching for the dog. Her Mom stated in an interview that Reena went where the dog went and the dog always went with Reena.

Dad is Tom Bratley. Renna's uncle Jason B posted a message on his FB wall saying to hold your kids close because you just never know.

ETA: I should say I do not know if he for sure has the same last name as his brother and sister but I think so.

WEll, Mom also said that her little girl knew not to wander off, so I have to take her statements with a grain of salt.

In the article, the reporter said she was in search of a missing dog. I wonder who told the reporter that ?

I don't think anyone is wanting to blame Mom or Dad. What got this started is reports that this child wandered off twice and was returned twice to her home on the day she went missing. Once she was a mile from her home. Apparently this was not the first time she was found by neighbors wandering around the area. I think people feel this is neglectful of parents. Once is an accident...three or four time is neglectful. Especially around so much water. 3 year old children do not understand their boundries. They need constant attention and apparently this little child was not watched very closely.

I am sure the Dad was thinking, "Oh-she's gone on a hike again. She will show up or someone will bring her home soon." I certainly feel for these people. I am not bashing them, just questioning their parenting skills I guess. The death of this poor child could have been prevented with a little more supervision. MOO

I agree, and like I said, I was coming in late on this and didn't know the 'WHOLE" story but I did read articles etc and just felt odd that the mother was taking the hit. Now I just feel sad! Blame is going to be placed and yet we cant bring that baby back.

I haven't seen anyone blaming mom. She was asleep. It is dad that saw her last, and was in charge of supervising her.
