My eldest is nearly normal. My youngest is doing okay, but extremely tired. I a man not doing a show well as I had hoped. The nurse called this morning and asked about my current symptoms, and I am not well enough to be removed from "isolation". Guess I am not surprised, because I literally cannot think or see straight...there is no way I could function normally yet.

Hang in there, hopefully you are on the road to recovery and will feel better soon. :) Be patient with yourself, it’s ok to rest and take this time to get better.

Which reminds me of something I heard someone say somewhere, it might have been on one of the WHO conferences where Doc T had some folks with covid talking about their experiences:

Iirc, one person tried to get back to things too soon, overexerting himself/herself, which only set him/her back further. So take this time to rest and heal, it’s okay.

Hugs, I know this sucks, but am happy it’s not worse and am sure you are too. :)

I read back through your posts and reminded myself that you are taking a steroid. If you don't mind answering--is it dexamethasone?

Re dexamethasone and other steroids to treat Covid-19:
Corticosteroids | COVID-19 Treatment Guidelines

Corticosteroids
Last Updated: November 3, 2020

Patients with severe COVID-19 can develop a systemic inflammatory response that can lead to lung injury and multisystem organ dysfunction. It has been proposed that the potent anti-inflammatory effects of corticosteroids might prevent or mitigate these deleterious effects. The Randomised Evaluation of COVID-19 Therapy (RECOVERY) trial, a multicenter, randomized, open-label trial in hospitalized patients with COVID-19, showed that the mortality from COVID-19 was lower among patients who were randomized to receive dexamethasone than among those who received the standard of care.1 Details of the RECOVERY trial are discussed in Clinical Data to Date, below.1

(SNIP)

Corticosteroids Other Than Dexamethasone
  • If dexamethasone is not available, alternative glucocorticoids such as prednisone, methylprednisolone, or hydrocortisone can be used.
  • For these drugs, the total daily dose equivalencies to dexamethasone 6 mg (oral or intravenous [IV])21 are:
    • Prednisone 40 mg
    • Methylprednisolone 32 mg
    • Hydrocortisone 160 mg
  • Half-life, duration of action, and frequency of administration vary among corticosteroids.
    • Long-acting corticosteroid: dexamethasone; half-life: 36 to 72 hours, administer once daily.
    • Intermediate-acting corticosteroids: prednisone and methylprednisolone; half-life: 12 to 36 hours, administer once daily or in two divided doses daily.
    • Short-acting corticosteroid: hydrocortisone; half-life: 8 to 12 hours, administer in two to four divided doses daily.
  • Hydrocortisone is commonly used to manage septic shock in patients with COVID-19; see Care of Critically Ill Patients With COVID-19 for more information. Unlike other corticosteroids previously studied in patients with ARDS, dexamethasone lacks mineralocorticoid activity and thus has minimal effect on sodium balance and fluid volume.10

This discussion is for personal stories from people who are part of this community to discuss coming into contact with the virus.

Anyone who is is isolation, quarantine, or ill, please let us know.

My son will be in isolation when he arrives in Canada in the next 24 hours, and we don't yet have a safe place for him to isolate. He can't isolate at home, regardless of the number of bathrooms and bedrooms, plates and cutlery sets. He cannot self-isolate at home because no one at home is willing to take the risk, much as we love him.

There are no facilities for him to self-isolate. I can probably trick a hotel into taking him for 2 weeks, but then what, call them to disinfect the room after he vacates?

Who else is dealing with isolate, quarantine and illness?

(Thanks, @otto for starting this thread :). Hope is well.)

Were you expecting that result?
Hoping for it, can’t say I was expecting a negative result because so many cases are asymptomatic.

One of my husband's employees was tested this morning 30 minutes after his mother tested positive. He drove her to her appointment and lives with her. He doesn't have his results yet.

Here is the list of what I have been taking since a local hospital recommended it.

5000 IU vitamin D
100mg zinc
6-8 mg melatonin
1000 mg vitamin C
1 mg thiamine
They recommended you take this before you get Covid and add 6 mg dexamethasone for 10 days if you get Covid.

What do I need to add?

Did you check with your doctor? 5,000 IU of vitamin D sounds like a lot to me. Here is an article I found that discusses vitamin D, zinc, and vitamin C:
Can supplements really help fight COVID-19? Here’s what we know and don’t know

I hope you and your husband stay well!

Thank you. Me too. Yes, just had my check up and that is the amount of vitamin D she recommends because of our altitude and long winter.

It is getting crazy here in Indiana. I have been working in several different clinics in the past few days. Entire families and extended families are testing positive. We have nothing to offer them except to advise they go to ER if they get sicker or develop difficulty breathing.

In one case a 6 year old girl is in intensive care and none of her family, including parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles can visit her. All are positive COVID cases.

People need to stop family gatherings immediately.

Wow! This is dreadful. Poor little girl, I hope she will be OK. I guess the families who are getting sick are finally figuring out that gatherings are not a good idea at this time.

Perhaps you would consider posting this in the main coronavirus thread too?

That is a great reminder! I tend to get inpatient, so this has been quite a lesson on slowing down and having patience.

It was not. It was Predisone. They only give the dexamethasone to people with low o2 levels, apparently.

How incredibly sad.

I am not writing this to keep on feeling sorry for myself, but maybe it is something that can help educate someone else....or maybe someone else has experienced a similar reaction.

So, I had written that over a week ago, my vision went blurry. Some fellow WSers said that can be a side effect of the steroids. Well, it was getting better and I had mentioned it to my dad (a retired doctor) that I still couldn't even see the ground. He said that I should get my blood glucose levels checked. We happen to have a glucometer at home, so I immediately checked it. It was 400! I am now having to check my levels several times a day and they are still very high! Not 400, but not a heck of a lot better. My doctor said this might resolve as the steroids leave my body.....or I might now become a diabetic. The steroids might have pushed my body pass it's threshold. Ugh. Freaking COVID! Who knew.

Oh whaaaat, that's terrible! Really hope it resolves itself over the next few days
