This maybe a really stupid question, ( any SARs, peeps here)

If the Dogs tracked her to the river, this could only happen if her feet were the ones on the ground, :waitasec:

What I mean is, if she was carried there her scent wouldn't be on the ground to track, :waitasec:

Right or Wrong...????

Just a little ot info, I was in Weston for a grand opening of a store I worked for several years ago and got stuck for 10 days due to a snow storm. Everyone in the town and the hotel embraced me and made me feel like I had known them my whole life.

:welcome: to WS Atimetostand!
I don't doubt for a second that the people of Weston are a warm and welcoming bunch. I think that is evident in the outpouring of compassion shown by them for this baby that apparently none of them ever really got to know.

West Virginia really gets a bad rap. I moved to WV from TX. My dad grew up in another town not far from Weston, which is where I originally moved. The people are very friendly here. Weston is one of the bigger towns, but still small. I have never been snubbed by anyone, even when I first moved here. A lot of the older people are uneducated, but very intelligent. Everyone talks to everyone else, rich or poor. You may not know people by name, but you still speak to each other. They are suspicious of people who aren't friendly, figure they have something to hide. Everyone knows everyone else in the neighborhood. They all watch out for the others kids. The whole town pulls together and helps when they are needed, as they are doing now. Those who are not physically able to help search have helped however they can, cooking and donating food for the searchers, watching kids so someone more able can go search, etc. People have walked miles, dug through brush, crawled under houses, without complaint. They even had a form to sign up in case people are needed to help in other situations. Many people were filling those forms out.

The dam is not far from the area, maybe a mile or 2 at most. Someone did mention to me that they had to "drain" a river before in another area. I am sure they know it's an option. I live along the same river and it doesn't flood much. It's not swollen right now. When it rains, it does get very muddy. Right now, it's just overcast and no rain yet. Hopefully it will stay that way.

Question for locals-
What is this building, where, etc...
The WBOY report from last night said: dog tracked her scent to this building, and then lost it.

I'm assuming the building in near the river.

AmandaReckonwith -That building is very close to the bridge where they are searching, maybe 50 feet at most. It's just a shed.

Sharedspirit, thank you. Funny that I remember that-Weston is down state for me. I am praying for no rain today back there! Did anyone find out if the locks on dams were open? My brother was an excellent swimmer but did drown as the undertow took him down at the mouth of the Ohio river. I hope my fellow West Virginians find her today.

Re the area: it sounds like any small town community (close and guarded). I lived in a very rural area for about 6 months and what a difference it was to city life. Everyone knew your bidness, but would be there in a heartbeat if you needed them. I quite liked it!

I am concerned about the mom and grandma's statement though:

"We've done a foot canvas of the neighborhood, used K-9s, now we have divers in the water. We've entered her in as missing," said Sgt. Michael Posey of the Lewis County Sheriff's Department.

Family members say Aliayah is a shy child. They say she never talks to strangers and would never have wandered off alone.

"She never leaves the house unless an adult is with her. She wouldn't have come out in the yard, or the road for that matter, without her mother," said Joann Evans, Aliayah's Grandmother.

I'm reading this to mean that they believe she was abducted. Anyone else? If she would never leave the house, or go out alone...then where is she?

On FB (Lewis Co. Info,News & Talk) they're talking about scaling back the search. However, I didn't find this statement in any MSM link, so I'll take it with a grain of salt. They're saying it's because of all the rumours -- when in fact, I haven't heard many rumours at all. I find all that a bit odd.

I hope today is the day we'll find this precious baby.

BBM. IMO, the timeline and circumstances make no sense.
The most obvious thing, imo, is someone is holding something back.

It makes no sense that neither mom or grandma mention anything about evidence of a break in or an open door....

The dog story *rumor* on FB makes no sense either. Dogs would not chase a 3 yr old so far she fell into the river, unless the child was walking along the river bank and fell in after being startled by the dogs. Which still makes no sense because someone would have called the authorities immediately to report an accident.

My gut is telling me someone is holding something back, and until someone fesses up, LE is going to have a lot of interviewing and interrogating to do in addition to searching.

Two cases which keep coming to mind, and forgive me as I can't recall the exact details...

I keep thinking back to both the Ethan Stacy case, in which it was intially reported he wandered and walked out of the apartment. And the Aveion Lewis case in which the step dad claimed two men knocked him out, tied up his other children and kidnapped little Aveion. I don't recall the exact details of the first few days of the searches for either, but LE was incredibly tight lipped as they are in this case, and it wasn't long before the true horrors were revealed.

I PRAY I am wrong, but with what we are learning, that is where my mind is going. :(

Prayers for those searching for Aliayah that she is found today.

From http://www.canismajor.com/dog/srchresc.html
When trailing a person, a dog keys on the odor of skin cells that flake off the body. These skin cells float in the air and drop to the ground as the person moves about, and they float to the surface of the water if a victim has drowned.

I have never known a 3yr old that wouldn't go outside if they could.

I don't understand what being shy has to do with going outside in your yard or not.

Two thoughts on that:

1. If they were new to the area and Aliayah is a cautious kid, she might be reluctant to go outside or anywhere that is not yet familiar.

2. The power of denial is strong. If she would never leave and they believe she would never leave, then the "blame" isn't at their feet.

All that said, my previous gut feeling of horrible accident is waning and the behaviour of the family is worrying me. I can think of an explanation for each odd detail, but there are an awful lot of them.

Well, all my kids might have wandered away. Going outside and exploring was fun for all three of them at her age.

Having said that, I certainly have met children who would never go out alone, ever. I think they're using the word "shy" when they mean "timid" or "anxious". I do know children who have serious separation issues, and must be in contact with their mothers all the time. The moms can't even use the bathroom alone.

I think number two might be the case.

I would like to add I have never seen such terrible reporting, interviewing or filming in a news story as I have in this case.

I have no idea what that was supposed to be on the porch with the mother and grandmother. I have seen high school kids do better.
