Can any of y'all ever imagine getting a letter from your mother that said "Burn after reading"? What a complete nutter.
NO!

Mom always told me...Never ever put anything in writing that you don't
want the whole world to see!

Actually, the envelope said "Burn After Reading" and, according to Mrs. Laundrie, it was because Gabby had given Brian a book called "Burn After Writing" and they joked about it. She said she wrote it before Brian left with Gabby on their trip.

It included a Bible verse. There is nothing nefarious about the letter.

JMO

“I just want you to remember I will always love you, and I know you will always love me. You are my boy. Nothing can make me stop loving you, nothing will or could ever divide us no matter what we do, or where we go or what we say — we will always love each other,” Roberta Laundrie wrote.

“If you’re in jail, I will bake a cake with a file in it. If you need to dispose of a body, I will show up with a shovel and garbage bags. If you fly to the moon, I will be watching the skies for your re-entry. If you say you hate my guts, I’ll get new guts,” the letter continued.

Roberta Laundrie included a Bible verse from Romans 8:38.

She ended the letter by saying: “(Nothing can separate us: not hatred, not hunger, not homelessness, not threats, not even sin, not the thinkable or unthinkable can get between us.) ~ Not time. Not miles and miles and miles. ~”

The letter was in an envelope that said, “Brian Christopher Laundrie (burn after reading).”

It is not nefarious if written before Brian's trip with Gabby. It does become nefarious if it was written after she was informed that Gabby was gone.

Weird coincidence she mentions those exact things that happened.

I haven't researched if a date can be proven for when it was written. I wonder if the judge would allow this letter into evidence?

Lawsuit & BL's Estate. Blood from a Turnip?
.... And there was a third one against Brian's estate that paid out $3 million. JMO
He also branded the family’s $50 million lawsuit against the department an overreach after Petito’s family was awarded $3 million from the estate of Brian Laundrie in November in a separate lawsuit. OK
snipped for focus @MyBelle
^ post discusses lawsuit "against Brian's estate that paid out $3 million."
Reading the linked nypost.com articles,* I've missed any stmt that BL's estate PAID $3 million dollars.
Excerpts below report the plaintiffs were AWARDED $3 million."

Dec. 8, 2021 Petition for Summary Administration of BL's estate is avail. at scribd: Laundrie Estate | PDF
I cannot access the $ amt of assets now, but IIRC the amt was about or less than $10,000.

In FL, a probate estate eligible for ^ SumAdmin would be less than $75,000.**

Respectfully, there is a difference between $ awarded and $ "paid out." Not jmo.

From Nov. 17-18, 2022 article:
"Brian Laundrie’s assets are believed to be in the five figures, therefore it’s unlikely the family will receive $3 million."

I wonder why Gabby's family decided to not insist that she leave BL and immediately come home?

They must have assumed that she was not in any danger. Reminds my of how the Laundries may have assumed that Gabby left BL after another DV incident.

BBM. Good question!

Thanks for the links. I hadn't seen those articles.

Nefarious is a subjective conclusion.. In a lot of cultures, that letter would be considered to be a sign of deathly competition between a mother and a son's girlfriend. Not a letter to a 23 yr old layabout on a jaunt. A notification of permission to eradicate said girlfriend, mummy will always approve, and let's face it, there are mothers who approve of whatever their sons do, to anyone.

It really is not correct to claim it to be not nefarious, merely on whim or feelings, as it is not known how Brian judged it, since he was the recipient. He may have seen it as encouragement to rid himself of this pesky girl and claim her belongings as his own, because Mum said it's ok, bubby.

Did she get new guts? Did Brian fly to the moon? Did she show up with a shovel and garbage bags?

well.. she made a lucky guess and picked out an attorney in , lo and behold, the exact county Gabby's body was discarded by Brian. she arranged attorneys for Brian before anyone knew Gabby was actually missing, when her son rocked up in someone elses vehicle, she did not arrange with the Dept Of Motor Vehicles to change the registration and insurance into Brian's name, and neither did he, oh no, they kept that little secret, because they BOTH knew it was stolen, she , and the hubby, and this takes the cake, you couldn't make this stuff up, they actually found their OWN SON"S BODY!!.. have you EVER? heard of such a thing? .. like.. your kid wanders off to kill himself,no one, and no police force, experienced in search and rescue can find him .....and in the entire continental United States, MUM AND DAD FIND HIS BODY!.. this is the stuff of coinkidink out of all proportion to human credibility. ....

talk about flying to the moon!!... that's peanuts in comparison. If anyone could produce new guts, after that series of such lucky guesses,, Roberta could. No worries..

You certainly have a very creative way of explaining your points. I like it.

My mother raised me better than that. She raised me to know that actions have consequences. She wouldn't have shielded me.

She picked out an attorney because Brian had been indicted by a federal grand jury in that county for credit card fraud.

Facts do matter.

POINTS
  • A federal grand jury indicted Brian Laundrie for unauthorized use of a debit card following the death of his fiancé Gabby Petito.
  • Frank Figliuzzi, a former assistant director for counterintelligence at the FBI, predicted that Brian Laundrie’s parents will soon be summoned to a grand jury.
  • “There is no parental-child privilege, and I actually thought, by now, we would see them summoned to the grand jury. We now have an indictment, it’s a federal case,” said Figliuzzi.

My bad! Thank you, MyBelle, for the correction on the quote on the envelope.

. . . and for the quotes about the cake with the file in it, disposing of the body, and the garbage bags too. I had forgotten those as well.

My favorites were her offer to get new guts for herself and watching the skies for his reentry if Brian flew to the moon. His mother certainly did luv her son.

Arrest Warrant issued September 22nd.

But why get legal counsel because he used his finance/partner's debit card? They were traveling together and she could have given him permission, that is not illegal. No need for charges, you can use a person's card with permission.

What? No permission? Simple, just clear it up with Gabby, she can OK it.

What, she is gone? Still can use her card, wait, no, she is dead, now it is a crime to use her card so better get legal counsel.

Parents were not stupid, they at least suspected what 'gone' meant.

MyBelle, I totally agree with you that she loved him immensely. And I have true empathy for the pain she must be suffering at the loss of her son's life. No parent should have to suffer the loss of their child under any circumstance.

But I also realize that love sometimes drives parents to extremes. I know it's only my opinion, but I think the Laundries, in this case, felt driven into over-protection mode in the belief that it would save their son.

The almost proverbial words of 'Dr Phil' resonate in my head - "How'd that work out for you?"

Certainly sharing only my opinion.

I don't consider that love.
