I respect the FBI statement that JPS is not a suspect in the Colorado murder of Jessica. It is still a big coincidence that these kidnappings had several similarities and happened so close together in time.

It seems to me that a photographer who collects child , kidnaps and rapes little girls is all but guaranteed to sell some of his sick pictures to other perverts. Those who engage in the trade of child might have a type of comradeship which could lend itself to one-upsmanship. What if JPS has a pervert buddy who shares his disgusting hobbies? What if JPS and his buddy had a competition to see who could stalk, abduct, assault and photograph a little girl first, or which one did it "better"? Maybe they even did some brainstorming together before going on their separate hunts.

JPS has a history in the same area of Colorado that Jessica was abducted from. Wouldn't it be very likely that JPS still has business or personal connections in Colorado? I wonder if JPS has an idea who might have killed Jessica?

I was thinking the same thing!!!!! I did not know how to put it into words without sounding like I watch too much Dexter. Thank you! This may seem far fetched to some but it makes sense when you consider all of the coincidences and that JS might be into photographing children.

Interesting that they ruled out the Cody suspect for the JR case. I noticed in searches that the Cody suspect booked yesterday has an older male relative in Arvada.

Well, as I posted on the other thread, it's not an official announcement. It was, however, a reply posted tonight in response to a question about Speer's connection to Jessica's murder. So take it with a grain of salt, if you will. We should find out for sure at the presser tomorrow morning.

I'm telling you, I think that there is a social aspect to this perverted lifestyle and they probably share ideas and even compete. Too much coincidence going on for me!

Given that the FBI has far more info than I do, I respect their ruling...but I'd be inclined to recheck the factor(s) that ruled him out, too. The male relative is about 23 years older, and to my mind seems more likely to be an elderly parent or uncle rather than a cohort in a vicious murder.

I'd read that LE said they'd ruled out a connection, though, in a couple recent news articles about the JR case; here's one from about an hour ago:

"Authorities involved in the manhunt for 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway's killer say the two cases are not connected."

I assume he is using high end digital cameras, most digital cameras have GeoTagging built in. All of the images in his camera may be geotagged, and if so LE can use that forensic evidence to track his movements. LE can establish dates and times of his whereabouts and correlate that with known criminal activity (abductions, rapes, murders) in those areas.

LE is going to have to reconstruct the last 10 years of his landscape photography career as he has traveled extensively throughout the multi-state region for a decade. Then they will have to tie in this vast collection of child he has, and try to connect those specific images to known victims in those areas. They have their work cut out for them with this suspect.

While I am on the subject, I think its (highly) likely he supplemented his income as a landscape photographer selling his 'special' images of his child victims to the underground pedophilia network.

I don't know what camera he was using, but I can turn my geotagging off. I can also change the date, and my camera really thinks it is January 3, 2006 in July 2012. I can copy my pictures a certain way and all information (at least appears to ) disappear, and only the current date and information remains (I have a lot of pictures that I don't know the exact date of because of this). I think this is a glitch in my particular camera, but maybe not?

I have told you guys that I am a Guardian Ad Litem in Florida...Father is a RSO and so is his father!!!...He was just given custody of his 7 and 11 year old boys..Grandmother has had them since 2005 when he went to prison. She is soon to be 71 years and is totally exhausted..such a sad case and I advised against it...So much for My Opinion..Sadest thing is that the case was from Pinellas County...What in the H3ll do the the people down there Drink...CrAZY kOOL-aID?

RSO Dad promised me that he was "Reformed" and "Will Not Re-offend"...well the oldest boy has been "sexually exprimenting" on his younger brother..DCF opened a case...I thought it would slow things down..Did NOT!! WTF...The oldest was interviewed by a Child Protection Team member and his memories of a few weeks with birthmother and boyfriend made my Cry!! Can not even go there....So SAD..

Just Sounding off..thanks Guys...I need to get to bed...Leaving in the PM to head for Orlando and will visit Caylee' s site...Got the addy for the Elem. School...only 7 miles from DH's office.

Will be interested to see information unfold in this case. Have their been any other victims? My heart breaks for Katelyn, can't imagine going through that at 11 and what she will have to endure for the rest of her life. I am so glad that she at least got to kick him in the face.

Although LE ruled out the WY suspect in JR's murder, they only learned his identity within the last day or 2. Yes he has ties to CO, BUT...I believe I also read he has ties to and/or family in Independence, MO. JR's father lives in Independence, MO. Maybe he was an aquaintence of JR's father who developed some sick infatuation with JR. Being in a custody dispute, he may have gotten JR's mom's address..or even just the town. That might make her get into his car and disappear quietly...the 'remember me? I'm friends with your dad'.

The Cody suspect may not be linked to the JR case, LE says, but I suspect he is at least linked to other rapes/ child ring. It could even be a child in the suspects inner circle as I have a hard time believing this was his first child rape. I say this in general for the Cody perp whether or not the Cody perp is the suspect they have in custody.

Yet on the other hand this could have been a crime of opportunity. He saw the little girl, came up with the story, showed a gun, etc. and was so frazzled by what he did that he ended up leaving her out voluntarily.

It could also have been that he tried to put her in the hood container and that part of the car fell off, allowing her to escape, etc. or he was trying to put her in it and he heard another car coming. it was pretty stupid of him to leave the hood bc that seems like it Was the part that linked the crime to the suspect. If the serial numbers match he is going to have a hard time saying it was not him in that car.

Even if crimes are not linked, the Cody suspect is just as bad as the JR suspect. He meant for the little girl to die. If he wanted her to live he would have dropped her off in the town or at least on a main highway. He would not have dropped her off where he did. He attempted to murder her indirectly. I cannot imagine how scared she must have been, BRAVE BRAVE girl!

There is always a first time. This guy is pretty high profile for a predator. Seems intelligent and high functioning. He is definitely not hiding his face and name from the public. He's all over the web. So I have to wonder if his fantasies finally got to him. If he was usually with family and kids (when married), his GF after his divorce, or in ultra-isolated areas of wilderness he might have been in some level of control. Then he is suddenly alone on his little vacation and sees an easy target. He probably carries a gun for protection when he is out in the wilderness. Many people in rural areas do. Doesn't count on this girl being such a fighter!!!

Of course he could have done this before. But something about it seems amateurish. If he is practiced my guess is he hasn't left a living victim. He seems to be in that suv and with his equipment all the time, thus identifiable to whomever he has assaulted.

All 100 percent speculation ,imo, etc.

I can't link to the Facebook post, but on the Facebook page of Jesse Speer, there is a posting from June 5th, 2012 of a little boy, kneeling over a couple of dozen spilled green apples. It is a beautiful picture, and one any photographer would be proud of. I don't understand the picture, however, because it is credited to two Romanian photographers and Jesse Speer.

The photograph was being used as a cover for a magazine. The photo is not credited to the three artists names (including Speers). Their names were just on the cover because they had work and interviews in that edition of the photography mag.

This seems totally viable to me. I have one problem with the theory that JS is responsible for Jessica's murder, though... where would he have dismembered her? (It disgusts me to even have to type and think that!) That's why I'm thinking Jessica's murder has to be tied to someone local to Westminster. Who else would have access to a bathtub or some other place to carry out such a disgusting act? I don't think JS did.

An official at the Gallatin County Jail says the suspect is Jesse Speer. He was arrested on three charges -- kidnapping, drawing a deadly weapon and using a firearm while committing a felony.

Why not sexual assault???? Is that included in the kidnapping charge?

Oh yeah, so I noticed that on his FB page, too... that he'd announce he was "taking a break" and then when he comes back and starts posting images, the images he's posting are sometimes up to 6 years old. It's misleading because he keeps making references to taking breaks and explaining that he needs time to work on his art, etc. It's like he's posting great looking photos from an old stash to make up for his lack of recent work.

I wonder why there seems to be a lull in his work for the past year?

Good catch. Sounds like he's creating a fake alibi to account for times he was out doing other things.

Thanks. I will look too but if you find the link to that, please post it. I have a hard time believing that the guy would just let her go. BUT - I also am wondering if perhaps this was just his first time. Perhaps he was a "rapist" and not a "murderer". Perhaps he was an opportunist, and saw one with her?? He may have felt that she was young and wouldn't remember him.

Maybe he just left her, thinking she could not possibly survive out in the cold on the mountain. Or maybe he thought she was dead, or very close to it. Whatever the reason, I'm sure they don't want everyone to know every detail, so they can make sure they've got the right guy.
I would bet they are going to bring the girl in to identify him, or show her his picture in a group of others. If she makes a positive ID, they may release more information later.

I would be willing to bet Westminster has plenty of DNA evidence, which now that JS is in custody, they would be able to link via DNA if he was involved. Also, I am thinking maybe this guy JS was posing the girl to take pictures of her (maybe not sexual assault?) to sell to the world. i don't know much about photography world, but I would think the child pics would bring in good money (especially with some of the excellent research and links you guys have found that suggest JS might be involved with the child world).
