He must have had his hat on the entire time. No way would I say that was strawberry blonde hair. Beard, yes, but not hair.

I hope they check his hair for hair dye takes ten minutes with the products today.

Still wondering how witnesses came up with "white hair" and "55-60 years old". I guess a young person might be a poor judge of age (everyone over 30 probably looks elderly to a 12 year old)... but white hair?

His beard probably has a lot of white/gray in it ... and if he was in a hat, they couldn't see his hair.

He looks 50. The baseball cap he was reportedly wearing probably threw off his appearance a little bit for the children witnesses. I also thought he changed his hair color, hopefully he was busy doing that and not erasing all of his computer hard drives and camera media before the FBI got them. That is my argument against the FBI sitting and watching him, it gave him time to destroy evidence.

This is disturbing.

This article describes just how much evidence they had against him, which was a lot - they traced him by his number plate and of course the little one's description.

During the press conference, Rockvam said that an unrelated incident in Belgrade sped up the arrest of Speer, which happened on Saturday afternoon. The police department there spent part of the day searching for a pair of 9-year-old girls, who were later found safe and unharmed, but officials initially wondered if the cases might be related.

“That definitely expedited our efforts in getting him in custody,” Rockvam said. “That is really what forced us to arrest him

One you read the article it's pretty clear they had their guy. They had plenty of evidence.

Why then, did they wish to wait to arrest him?

Were they planning on following him, in the hope he'd lead them to other victims or crime scenes?

:what:

I feel really sorry for the ex-wife and kids. The tone of her public statement makes me think she had her own suspicions that something was up bc it is not an unequivocal statement of support for him. I just hope the children who may be in school are not alerted to these facts by other schoolmates.

This seems like a first time offense. There are so many mistakes and panicked actions that I am sure it seems like it will be a strong case against the perp.

This little girl is very strong. I hope she is doing ok, as ok as one can do at least.she has saved other lives.

Do you have a link for that?

TIA

"The victim told the suspect that she knew that he was going to rape her and the suspect responded that she wasn't going to get hurt," Rockvam said.

I wonder if this clever little girl saved her own life by doing this.

By engaging him in conversation, she may have become "real" to him.

Perhaps she threw a spanner into his fantasy and brought him back to some sort of realisation of what he was actually doing.

Not enough of a realisation to stop him from achieving some of his goals, just enough to stop him finishing them.

FWIW, the other two children present at the abduction gave the initial description and incorrect style of vehicle. Later the victim gave her info and it was all spot on.

Looks like he dyed his hair brown.

I've looked at all his websites and facebook page. Just goes to show, you never really know what lies beneath ...

Are there child molestor's/predator's who will not touch their own child, who is of the same sex and age of one that he sexually assaulted? What's the psychology behind that?

I honestly think if theyre child molestors they will molest even their own children. At least the dude that molested me and my brother also molested his own kids and other relatives.

Yes there are, just like there are serial killers that don't hurt their own family.

Gary Ridgeway springs to mind.

The psychology is that their victims aren't "real" to them. They are prey. They have as much regard for their prey as a tiger would.

Their own families are part of their own lives, of their own creation, often viewed as an extension of their own ego, therefore are not viewed as prey.

I'm hoping he's responsible for Lindsay Baum, too.

It would be wonderful to know where she is.

Did anyone figure out why they wouldnt release the perps name during the presser? Does anyone think it could be because they suspect him in some other cases and dont want to give anyone/someone a heads up on that?

She was found shortly thereafter running down the gravel Carter Mountain road dressed in light clothing. A party of hunters picked her up and called police while she spoke on the phone with her mother.
Court records state she had ligature marks on her wrists and ankles, along with a small abrasion on her lower left leg. Rockvam said at one point during the car ride, Speer allegedly hit her with his pistol.
