A knife by a child's toothbrush and blood stains on walls: Killer nanny REFUSES to look as jury is shown gruesome photos from apartment where she stabbed two kids to death (with clip)

Murder trial of New York City nanny Yoselyn Ortega continued on Tuesday

Jurors saw horrific crime scene photos as Ortega herself averted her eyes

One juror told judge he could no longer be fair and impartial and was dismissed ...

Prosecutors suggested that Ortega was jealous of Krim because she was financially stable and had a good relationship with her children.

Allegedly, Ortega and felt she deserved to work less and be paid more, but they have said there isn't a clear motive for the crime.

Ortega said she was angry that the Krims had asked her to clean the house in addition to looking after the children.

The nanny's attorney, Valerie Van Leer-Greenberg, said Ortega heard voices and saw hallucinations in unchecked disorders.

But New York has a high bar for the insanity defense, and it is rarely successful. To win, Ortega's lawyers will have to prove she didn't understand the consequences of her actions and didn't know right from wrong at the time...."

A nanny kills two children, yet some still want to blame the mother..:(

"Marina Krim is blameless in the murder of her children, yet her working status and relationship with her nanny have been under scrutiny...

Before the trial, prospective jurors were asked if they had ever hired a nanny, or themselves acted as caregivers, and many of those who said yes were dismissed. Prosecutors claimed Ortega was motivated by resentment of her employer – by which they meant Marina Krim, not her husband, Kevin....

What has been particularly striking are slips in the care taken to absolve Marina Krim of blame. She is entirely blameless; there is no suggestion she was an improper employer. Nonetheless, the judgments are there. “Though Ms Krim did not work outside the home, Mr Krim’s parents said, they wanted a nanny to help out.” This is a line from an early report in the New York Times and the “though” in that sentence is extraordinary. Marina Krim’s father-in-law also told a journalist that his son’s wife “didn’t have a nanny so she could go out and play tennis – not that there’s anything wrong with that”, but because three kids is a lot of work and she needed an extra pair of hands.

When Marina Krim testified last Friday, defence lawyers quizzed her about demands she made on the nanny, zeroing in on seemingly trivial domestic disputes until, after seven hours of testimony, she started to weep and said: “I’m sorry about this. I don’t understand. I don’t know what she was fishing for.”

The defence lawyers were fishing for blame, and it is a powerful temptation: without blame, what happened is too terrifyingly random to bear; and if we can’t blame Marina Krim for provoking her children’s murder, we will blame her for hiring a nanny in the first place."...

Therapist who saw killer nanny just days before she stabbed two young children to death in their Manhattan apartment testifies that she hadn't been suicidal or murderous

"...Caffrey said there was 'no evidence' that the 50-year-old suffered from delusions or hallucinations. Ortega claimed she's heard voices and was 'touched by the devil' which drove her to kill the young kids.

'She didn't tell me about any concerns about voices or visions, smells, tactile. No indication of hallucinations,' Caffrey testified in Manhattan Supreme Court.

'Her concerns seemed to be about her heart, her anxiety, her son, her sister, her money. She impressed me as a worried, anxious, frightened person.'

During his testimony, Ortega sat in court, shaking her head, and pursed her lips and told her lawyer: 'No, no.'

The court heard that Ortega, who made the appointment with Caffrey under the name Yoselyn Perez, was concerned about her son Jesus' recent move from the Dominican Republic to New York.

The move was expensive and Caffrey said it made her feel inadequate as a mother.

During the hour-long session at his Columbus Circle office, she explained that her heart had been racing with anxiety as a result of the move.

'For an as-yet-unexplained reason, patient has been feeling racing heart anxiety as result of the moves and son's being here, with her only voicing that she's not done well by him in these matters,' Caffrey testified, adding that she appeared to feel guilty over having done so little for her son over the past 12 years.

Ortega didn't make a follow-up appointment.

Three days later, went on the killing spree..."

I'm just joining this thread now, and OMG this is beyond tragic and disgusting. I remember when the news broke on this.

Ortega is gross, and she's got a hag lawyer.

I can't believe the resentment was so deep within her that she would take this route, as opposed to say, finding another job that didn't punctuate her inadequate and miserable life. This is seriously very frightening for any wealthy couple employing a nanny. Would anyone know, outside of hindsight, that the person you've hired hated and resented you so much that that kind of rage was about to boil over?

ETA: I guess gross entitlement runs across all age groups.

Ortega is the woman who is “entitled” in this tragedy. Her family educated her but she was too lazy to keep a job. She left her husband and deserted her son. Who raised him? Her family.

When she got the job with the Krims , it was her family, lying to get her employment as she lived with them and drew from their family resources. She didn’t even do her own lying.

Here’s a woman with an accounting degree and she can’t manage her own finances. She obviously felt that she was “entitled” to have the things Mar8na Krim had. Suddenly getting an apartment, decorating it, bringing her son to the States. Thought she could just spend and magically, someone else would save her....as she had always been saved.

Wrecked her sister’s kitchen in a tantrum, complaining about her sore hands. Then get out and get an accounting job!

She truly is vile. Imagines herself to be a “victim”...you can see that demeanor in the courtroom.

It’s pitiful that she cannot be executed. I wish the Sister and the relative that lied for the reference could also be sued or jailed. They bear accountability for the deaths of these children too. Their lies put them at the mercy of their evil sister.

Marina lashed out at Ortega today:

http://abc7ny.com/youre-evil---mother-lashes-out-at-nanny-accused-of-murdering-children/3165980/

I cannot imagine how hard this trial must be on her.

I admire Marina so much for her skills and passion as a mother and an artist, for her strength in rising above tragedy, for her ability to make her life beautiful in any circumstances.... and I also admire her so much for screaming "You're evil" at Ortega. She is someone who is completely true to herself and her emotions. The polar opposite of Yoselyn Ortega.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...s-New-York-killer-nannys-stabbing-attack.html

Very telling pictures of the Krim apartment. Look especially at the wide shot of the living room into kitchen. While expensive to rent, this is not an apartment decorated for entertaining, or impressing fashionable friends. No NYC decorator put this place together. No, this apartment is all about the children. It’s one large playroom. This is a family whose children were the center of their lives.

To the right, back packs hang from a shelf....Hallloween decorations are on the mantle...inexpensive posters and a plain comfy sofa...all child friendly. Into this came the entitled Ortega. Vicious, lazy and jealous...she was often in the apartment with Marina, watching her enjoying her babies, watching her happiness. There were not four hours of pickups every single day. I suppose she wished to just sit, and be paid for letting Marina pay for the pleasure of seeing her lounge in achair. After all, the soap hurt her pinky.

As for her “delusions”...my Mother has delusions related to Parkinson’s. They are a reality to the sufferer. If Ortega was experiencing these delusions...of course, she would mention them...they are a frightening reality to the sufferer. To my Mother, there WERE people on the porch...something needed to be done about them.

Ortega is a liar from a family of liars. If her siblings testify that she was indeed trending psychotic, then they had a responsibility to the Krim to let them know for the safety of those children. If that’s the case, they chose money grubbing over the safety of those babies...and they are as amoral as their evil sister. As Marina declared as she finished her heart wrenching testimony...”It’s all about the money!”

If she had no symptoms and they know it...they should testify to get her hard time in the roughest prison in NY. Too bad there aren’t chain gangs where her pinky could be really irritated.

When Marina Krim broke down and screamed in the courtroom..”You’re enjoying this!”...she touched on the nerve center, heinous reality of this tragedy....there is NOTHING the State can do to Yoselyn Ortega that can approximate the devastation she afflicted on Marina.

Nothing.

She will be warm, fed three meals a day...and have no responsibilities. She can entertain herself remembering the horror on Marinas face and the fear of a sux year old who probably loved her...as children will.

There can be no real justice.

My parents came to this country as immigrants. As many must do, they took whatever jobs they could to provide for their family. My Mother cleaned houses. She took three buses each way to her jobs and then came home and cooked for our family and made a home for us.

Some Sundays, we would “take a ride”...not too far because of the cost of gas...and never “eating out.” Sometimes we’d pass the houses where my Mother worked. What I remember most is flowers in the gardens and wreaths on the door. We lived in a six family walkup. My Mother would say...”Aren’t they pretty! Study, be a good girl...maybe someday you’ll have a house like that.”

There was none of this current “militant empathy” in those days...stoking hatred and class envy. My parents considered themselves LUCKY. Because they did, we did too. My father actually would expound on how lucky he was...a family, a car, food on the table. I can remember being teased once about where we lived and once about my clothes...but my parents would entertain no pity party. “Be a good girl. Study hard. Work hard. We are very lucky people.”

I was the first to go to college. I graduated and married a very smart young man. I have had a beautiful comfortable life...and enjoyed seeing the joy it gave my parents. But they gave me the attitude of gratitude...not this attitude of ...”we are marginalized. We are owed.”

Ortega is the personification of what 5his mindset creates. She is a creature of hate...her own life destroyed by her anger and sense of entitlement.

The world will never be fair. No government can impose fairness. Cancer is not fair...brain injuries are not fair....infertility...crime...fires...earthquakes...can not be equally distributed so everyone gets a fair share.

Before my parents died, we brought them to Hawaii for three weeks. They were thrilled. As we sat on a beautiful beach in Kailua....my Dad mused about how lucky he felt that day....almost as lucky as the long ago day we drove as a family to Belmar beach for a rare day out. He had his joy in every moment.

Ortega has her twisted sense of being entitled, abused and wronged. She is the embodiment of a vile and destructive philosophy that achieves only envy, misery and discord.

‘Killer’ nanny laughs maniacally during her murder trial

"The Upper West Side nanny accused of slaughtering two young tots laughed maniacally and muttered to herself in Spanish in court Friday as an NYPD detective recounted the bloodbath....

Jurors shook their heads as they were shown disturbing photos of Ortega’s injuries...

At times during Brennan’s testimony on Friday, Ortega, 55, rolled her eyes and shook her head, appearing to disagree with what he was saying. At one point, she inaudibly muttered something in Spanish, while tightening her fist....

When asked on cross-examination about Ortega’s condition at the hospital, Brennan said he didn’t know, prompting the nanny to cry out, “Oh!” and laugh out loud within earshot of jurors.

Ortega has mostly been stone-faced during the trial, turning her head to look away from grisly crime-scene photos..."

In the Daily Mail link, there are Yoselyn Ortega's handwriting.

4A06C3DE00000578-0-image-a-4_1520584726335.jpg

The handwriting was while Ortega was in the hospital bed after the murders.

What I notice in her handwriting
Angles All Over The Place
Mostly Capital Letters
Mix Of Lower Case Letters
Consistent Strong Pressure And Bold
Muddying
Letters Look Open
Some Letters Look Like Numbers

Yoselyn Ortega is not particularly sociable and has issues with social alienation all her life. She has a severely overinflated ego and is likely a social climber. Ortega likely has sexuality issues and has a lot of repressed anger that exploded on the Krims.

I cant get over the audacity of her complaints. Oh no, she had to do EVERYTHING. Her schedule for that last afternoon was to pick up Lulu from one place and take her to another, with Leo in tow... if she hadn't taken a murderous turn, she would have been sitting watching a ballet class until Marina showed up.
She asked for more work, so Marina gave her some housekeeping duties. What was Marina supposed to do? Marina was a SAHM, she couldn't give Yoselyn a $90K job as an accounting expert or CEO.
Oh and the schedule changed every day. It was probably a weekly schedule, which is how I have always managed with my four kids. Yes, every day is different, but every Monday is always predictable, Tuesday etc. There was probably a lot of flexibility in the middle of the day when it was just Leo at home.
It was not the job for someone with money problems, and it was certainly not the type of job that would prevent you from managing your own medical appointments. Another nanny would have loved that job, and would have been inspired by Marina, instead of jealous.

Last week, at least two jurors wiped away tears as the panel reviewed crime scene photos, including images of the slain children. One juror was replaced with an alternate last Tuesday after he said he could no longer be fair and impartial in the case.

Jurors stared at the diagrams and listened intently as Ms. Ely discussed the injuries. One juror grimaced at the details. Another held her eyes closed for minutes at a time.

The autopsies could not determine which child was stabbed first.

Manhattan nanny charged with killing two kids shows no emotion as grisly details are revealed at trial

"The Upper West Side nanny accused of the 2012 killing of a 6-year-old girl and her 2-year-old brother sat stone-faced as a medical examiner described the extensive knife wounds that killed the children.

Yoselyn Ortega, 55, sat emotionless at the defense table through the testimony of forensic pathologist Susan Ely...

Jurors were shown diagrams of where each wound was found on the little girl’s head, neck, torso, arms and hands — and, unlike Ortega, were visibly disturbed by the testimony.

One appeared to be shaking afterwards..."

I look at her and I think of those terrifying Grimm’s fairy tales that I read as a child. The wicked witch chasing Hansel and Gretel...evil witches that wanted to hurt children...little LuLu Krim fighting as hard as a six year old could, against the Wicked Witch that chased her through her home.

She’s all those nightmares come true.

Jurors endure gruesome blow-by-blow of ‘killer nanny’ attack

"...One woman on the panel was left shaking after hearing Dr. Susan Ely describe the manner in which Yoselyn Ortega cut little Leo Krim’s neck with a kitchen knife.

Another juror’s mouth fell open for minutes after she heard about Lucia’s severe abdominal wounds.

One thing was clear, the coroner told jurors — the children suffered horribly before they died....

“They didn’t die initially. Only some of [the knife wounds] were fatal. That takes an order of minutes, not seconds,” Ely said. “Bleeding to death takes minutes.”...

Ortega was not under the influence of any substances during the attack, Ely testified under cross examination by defense attorney Valerie Van Leer-Greenberg.

The children had not been drugged or force-fed alcohol to ease their suffering, she said...."
