Canada- Sharif Rahman, owner of the Curry House restaurant, suffered brain injury after assault by 3 non-paying men, Owen Sound, Ontario, 17 Aug. '23

I don't think 'dine and dash' has anything to do with a challenge. It's criminal behavior that some people engage in. Many of them are not argumentative, they don't complain about the food, the service, etc. If anything, they engage the servers to disarm them. There was a guy in Toronto once who within a few short weeks basically bamboozled a lot of high end restaurants in Yorkville. He'd come in dressed in a suit carrying parcels that were wrapped like presents. He always wanted a window seat to watch the action. He would sit and eat, talk to the wait staff, then all of a sudden he'd rap on the window and say something like, 'OMG, that's my old high school coach!" or something similar and he'd say 'I'm just going to catch up with him, do you mind?" Nobody minded because he was a nice guy. He ran out and left all his parcels behind and never came back. The parcels were empty boxes. He racked up a pretty impressive total of skipped out meals and he got away with it because he never gave any indication that he was skeevy or suspicious.

People who get into arguments with waitstaff or owners that escalate into physical altercations had no plan to walk out of a restaurant without paying. Why make yourself memorable? They walk out because they ramped up the argument and don't want to deal with the cops, pissed off owners and diners who can identify them.
Exactly. These were blood thirsty hooligans they were possibly racist but media and police are hiding it.

But they fled very easily and steadily if they were soo drunk they would have made mistake and stumbled. They were fully aware to be able vanish into thin air. It's seems like the police are not doing a good job. How can they not find better pictures of these men in this day and age? MOO

it's a small town
there's not as many cameras as big cities

The above link covers the solving of a 15+ year hit-and-run that killed a young man named Lucas Shortreed. It occurred between Alma and Fergus a little over an hour drive south of Owen Sound. The story is quite astounding in regards to the length that the perpetrators went to avoid being found out. You can't write this stuff!!
Why does this have any relevance? My thoughts:
1) Both cases have a car as a major clue.
2) The Shortreed case had appeared to have gone cold but the OPP never gave up.
3) After 15 years, the OPP received a tip which cracked the case along with a lot of subsequent hard work by OPP specialists.
So we should have hope that someone somewhere knows something and wants to get something off their chest.

That is astounding. Thank you for posting that. The truth always tends to come out, and that case relates so well to this crime.

a fake wall!!!

And they lived right by where an OPP billboard once was with the young victim’s face and the plea for information about the crime. They both must have passed it hundreds of times.

I’m just astonished.

not trying to give criminals any ideas but they could've dismantled that car piece by piece and discarded all the parts in different areas - why just keep the evidence???

he also could've turned himself in right away even a few days later if he was worried about being under the influence and he'd be out of prison by now

I wonder if they have kids ...

They have two children. Just keep looking and you’ll learn more from articles that are not behind paywalls. It is a very strange story. VINs were important.

I agree that they don't look fit to me. Especially the guy in the orange t-shirt. He appears younger than the guy in the blue t-shirt. His haircut looks like a haircut that guys on the younger side go for. Sort of a cross between an EMO haircut and a fade.
I don't think this crime was due to white supremacy but a crime of opportunity. They just didn't want to be booted out the restaurant and a verbal spat escalated. But as soon as it became physical it must have been obvious that SR was gravely injured and they just hightailed it out of there. I also think they got out of Dodge really quickly. I think that means that if they were in the area with other individuals those people know who are responsible for this crime and they've said nothing which leads me to believe that family members are protecting them.
FWIW, I think younger bigger guys do not always realize that they can kill people with a few punches to the head- IMO

I agree about the non professional athlete- or even not truly serious amateur athlete observation.

The impression of doughyness, however, vibes slightly different to me:

- Formerly active high school athletes that still retain their stocky athleticism. They currently play on a adult softball team (less running) in a recreational league sponsored by the city. But, as you suggested, they are slowly and steadily moving from "athletic" to "doughy" as time goes on.

The recreational softball team's uniform preference is black shorts and socks? As a side note, universities also sponsor intramural sports leagues of varying levels of competiveness for students who still want to play, but cant make the college teams.

Exactly! Even the gait, even the look. Put long black pants instead of shorts on them.

I wonder if there was any family reunion of a religious group nearby? These groups are usually what I would say “the exact opposite to violent,” but no family is responsible for an accidental off-kilter behavior of its member. And, I think they were sober.

I think they ended up “still hangry” and planned to beat the owner, not kill him. JMO.

Curry House is in River District Business.
There are tons of restaurants there and tons of cameras, I presume. I need to compare the prices and the times that they close. But tbh, even KFC suits these guys better. Why did they choose the Curry House? A possible reason - they might have visited it before. When we go to BC, we visit the same Indian restaurant, because my guys "remember it". Maybe the same principle? Visited several years ago.

i havent caught up yet so forgive me if there's updates i've missed
i've had family reunions in the upper midwest and the way the boys are dressed reminds me of that. that's typical outfit for a summer day for many boys/men ages 12-22 or even older lol. maybe not a common outfit in owen sound but extremely common amongst popular and/or rich and/or athletic kids where i was from, and it rubbed off on ALL the kids, but is still most popular amongst the highschool/college age "jock" type. i wish they'd provide a pic of the older man - i almost sent in a tip based on a (racist and entitled) family i used to know who travels through canada.... but no pics of the older guy has been what gives me pause when it comes to submitting a tip. if i feel that way there's maybe a few others who do, too!

Coming back to Sharif Rahman’s murder, I wonder how well, or poorly, the Curry House was doing. I know Sharif had been interviewed by a local TV station, but it was a while ago. I have a feeling that it takes a lot of investment to keep a successful Indian restaurant; the spices are not cheap, and Indian food takes a lot of time to prepare.

I don’t know what it was on the visitors’ part, racism, anger or mere stupidity. But I have an inner feeling that it was a poor day for Mr. Sharif, financially, and then these dine-and-dash were the last drop in the bucket.

I hope they will be caught. Probably someone knows who the culprits are and keeps quiet partially out of sympathy to the young men (going to jail for a relative newcomer). I also feel that whoever knows it, himself didn’t like Mr. Sharif. But …this murder didn’t make the young men any better. In fact, much worse. To live with it now, they have to rationalize it. Very sad, and I hope that the ones in the know will find the courage.

Now that you mention it, it might be the fabric?

My children participate in sports. They, their team mates and their friends like clothes made from a particular ultra light weight manmade material that also dries extremely fast.

The praises of this material aside, I think it comes in one solid color (maybe producing multi colored fabric using the material is difficult?). Likewise, it has a sheen to it when it catches light. I have seen this material being worn by adults at our rec center and by adults using a fitness gym in town as well.

Though the brand names associated with the fabric are expensive, my low income town has plenty of adults and kids with various bling accessories such as phones, cars and clothes- it just matters how one budgets their money.

If they are wearing "the fabric", it might not indicate their income. But, it could reinforce the possibility that they are ex jocks on a city league softball team. I once lived in small town Minnesota for a little bit. Such softball leagues were extremely popular in the town.
