The color of the van could be wrong. A white object, in certain lighting conditions, can appear to be a different color. That's why Kodak had different types of film to use in different types of lighting.

Several people have mentioned that they may have been followed home. If that happened, perhaps they knew the vehicle and person who was following them. They wouldn't have been alarmed especially if that person was on that road often. That person may have lived nearby and used that road to go to...

Of course, finding the body anywhere doesn't prove who did it.

A well is a great place to hide someone. Maybe someone could go with some equipment and still take a look. GPR should help.
