Actually, Chattanooga is a "straight shot" from Birmingham. It is straight up I-59, a little over two hours away.
I also wanted to mention that I live in a suburb of Birmingham, and they have been scrolling the amber alert on all the local tv stations today, through all the NFL games, etc...
Did anyone else watch the Court tv interview with the defense attorneys yesterday late afternoon? It was pretty interesting. Among other things, they were asked if a plea deal was ever discussed with prosecutors. They said no plea deal was ever formally offered but prosecutors floated a deal for...
This is sort of random, but does anyone know why the prosecution called her Brooke during the trial, when she apparently goes by her middle name, Skylar? Was there some tactical reason for this? It seems odd not to just call her what she is known by, but I'm sure they had their reasons.
I think the jury got it right here. The state did not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the baby was born alive. Without that, all charges except the abuse of a corpse charge fail.
I suspect this is just another instance of Skylar being suggestible, and trying to tell police what they wanted to hear. Faine told her they were going to search her phone, and asked her a couple of times whether they were going to find searches about abortion or getting rid of a baby, making...
I've seen this too in at least one article, but I'm not sure it is correct. There was certainly no evidence at trial that the doctor agreed, reluctantly or not, to help Skylar deceive her mother by prescribing her birth control pills despite the fact she was pregnant. The doctor testified that...
I don't know about Ohio law, but generally new witnesses can be called in rebuttal. However, the prosecution can only address in rebuttal issues and arguments raised by the defense in its case.
I agree that the texts help show why Skylar would have found it impossible to tell Kim about her pregnancy. But her difficulty in telling her mother about her pregnancy does not help her show that the baby was stillborn. If anything, it suggests the opposite. And it wasn't just the...
This is actually the most damning evidence against BSR, IMO. I think the "confession" is pretty weak, given the tactics of the police officer and her obvious efforts to say whatever would please them. But her texts after the baby was born were pretty bizarre, especially if the baby really was...
Perhaps. I'm not sure most people understand that, although abortions are legal, they are not readily available in most places, and most doctors do not perform them. Maybe I'm wrong about that, though. It is just hard for me to fathom that the mother was entirely unaware of the pregnancy, even...
Honestly, I'm not sure. Maybe somewhere between 5-15 years? It is horrible that Weaver (and maybe Richardson) murdered an innocent and defenseless baby, but I guess there is a part of me that also understands the fear, lack of support, and disassociation that these young women were...
For those convinced that BSR murdered her baby, do you believe life imprisonment without the possibility of parole is an appropriate sentence for this crime? Someone much earlier in the thread mentioned another case in Ohio, where Emile Weaver was convicted of murdering her newborn after...
Does anyone think it's possible that the mother suspected BSR was pregnant, but thought/assumed she was earlier in the pregnancy (i.e. the baby was Brandon's)? I find it difficult to believe, especially after reading the text messages, that the mother was not aware (or at least very strongly...
