I always assumed that once the jury have reached a verdict, the court reconvenes, and you just have to wait whether it’s ten minutes or ten hours. Im probably wrong though!
The judge saying Myers repeatedly expressed HIS opinions (on the merits of the experts) makes me feel like at least it’s being acknowledged in some form that he is giving his own opinions against those of medical experts.
If I’m remembering correctly, for these incidents she was still on the ward, so it’s not outside of the realms of possibility she was there at the time. It just means the prosecution couldn’t physically place her in any specific place I suppose. Which is worlds away from Myers implication that...
I’m pretty sure they did discuss why they relied on the old research paper (it’s so rare there just hasn’t been many studies, so this research paper was the best they could refer to) and I might be wrong but I’m also sure I remember dr evans discussing the unreliable witness issue, and it have...
I bet the jury will be glad to retire. I’m certainly glad this week is over with. It still frustrates me no end because it feels to me like the defence case was purely the opening and closing speeches, it’s such a waste. It frustrates me because while I have my own opinion, I want to be...
2:07pm
Mr Myers refers to Dr Jennifer Loughanne's note for the Child N event - 'asked to see - desat - unsettled - got upset - looked mottled, dusky, sats [down to 40%] [moved to] 100% O2
'On my arrival, 40% O2, screaming'.
Mr Myers says it is "plainly not an air embolus", disagreeing with Dr...
1:44pm
The trial is now resuming after its lunch break.
1:48pm
Mr Myers is continuing to deliver the closing speech in the case of Child M.
He says air embolus was the mechanism proposed by medical experts as the reason for collapse.
He says Dr Evans and Dr Bohin referred to discolouration...
12:03pm
Mr Myers says nurse Mary Griffiths had said there was a delay in podding the blood sample due to what happened with Child M.
He says it is a "point of contention" that the delay in processing the sample is "one thing to keep in mind" when processing the results.
He says apart from the...
I thought the crying was linked to potential violent acts rather than the air embolus themselves? He’s saying that the distress and crying is something the precaution is trying to link to the embolus right?
I’m finding it all a bit frustrating to be honest. Because I skim read the paper he’s referred to today and it does discuss the propensity for air embolus in babies with illnesses like pneumonia. But I’m also sure it discusses that embolus itself is rare and that the rashes weren’t present on...
I’m not sure that I agree it’s that relevant to be honest. Having not been in trouble before (as in with the law) doesn’t mean there hasn’t potentially been problematic instances in her life whether during school years, in work in general. I do feel like it’s quite clear she can be volatile in...
Perhaps there’s just no such thing as an expect in air embolus in neonates..
I also find it odd he’s discussed how her reaction show she was distraught at being removed from her job and the ward. That’s not really in dispute. Lots of guilty people also become distraught for lots of different...
Poor showing for me so far. There’s lots of things here he could’ve brought up with the witnesses and didn’t. So now we’re just taking his word for it in regards to these general shortages and mistakes that are now suddenly contributing factors. Why did he not question the experts about ethers...
I also think that while she can’t necessarily attribute staff shortages or too many babies being the cause of deaths, as a member of staff who worked those shifts she could absolutely attest to short staffing issues if they existed. I don’t recall the defence asking anyone about their working...
