Slightly OT but in this general area of the Indian Ocean is where teenage sailor Abby Sutherland was rescued when her boat sank roughly 2000 nautical miles off the coast of the west coast of Australia in 2010.

The P-8 is a the latest greatest sub hunter. It's radar systems are all about finding big metal things under the water. The RAAF has the older P-3s.

If the US gets too involved, it could look like they are trying to cover up for Boeing, especially if it's something like a pilot suicide. It's a shame there isn't an international independent investigation team that can take over.

I can't imagine a worse scenario than the plane being hijacked or out of control and the passengers are locked outside the cockpit...
I believe in many of these cases of vicious animals, the owners want to wash their hands of them and turn them over to animal control, so animal control is legal owner and has to decide the animal's fate. If the owner had retained ownership, the dog could have been destroyed after the bite hold...
This makes me angry because there are so many lovely dogs put down at shelters and these groups collect all this money to save dogs who need extensive training and still might not be safe to be around.

But ACARS was functioning when the turn was programed in, it reported the turn was programmed in, confirming it was on autopilot, not being piloted manually. If ASCARs was functioning enough to report back about the pre-programmed turn, why would it have reported the malfunctions causing the...
So ACARS reported back that the turn west was pre-programed according to CNN via the NYT report.
CNN also mentioned something about Thailand picking up an unidentified plane on radar during the time Flight 370 disappeared. Any other media outlets reporting this? Just a rumor but interesting.
