I'm still trying to get my jaw back up off the floor at CM's disrespectful remark about trying this case twice. I can't believe he went there and openly threatened the Judge.

Here's a clue Mason...Baez is the reason the Defense is playing catch up...or is that ketchup or catsup :croc:

For one box of oranges----- the best person to answer that is

Henry Lee!!!

:cow:moo jmo imo ooo

HHJP: "Did it occur to you that you should seek an extension of time?"
JB: "No, I just thought it would be fine."

O-M-freaking-G! Are you kidding me?

IMO Baez has been conducting this case in an underhanded way...from the beginning.

CM-"I take substantial umbrage..." CLASSIC!

He said that and my immediate thought was that he and Dolores Umbridge (I know, spelled differently, but sounds the same to me) from Harry Potter would be a hell of pair. LOL.

I would agree.
The lead lawyer/ the one in charge should be the one responding..right?
So is it Baez OR is it really Mason...Mason is the one responding to the SAO's motion on sanctions...

That's a sign that yes, the defense does have an inkling of just how pissed HHJP was and at least CM was taking steps to actively limit JB's exposure and public speaking today. While JB is "lead attorney" CM is the lead DP qualified attorney. he is not going to be subjected to sanctions based on JB's work without being the one standing before the judge trying to smooth things over. It obviously did not work so well for him however. HHJP was threatening him with contempt fines and really clearly views JB as little more than the defendant at this point (as opposed to an attorney). Notice HHJP did not speak to JB today unless directly grilling him, or responding to JB's questions. And JB was truly almost trying to keep his head down for most of the hearing. (granted he screwed it up unbelievably badly right at the end with his request for "clarification" and more time")

I seem to see CM trying to act like a Gregory Peck(To Kill A Mockingbird) wanna be, using his best southern gentleman affect. Maybe he was pandering to Judge P.'s exquisit southern charm in putting CM & crew in their place. Then of course we have J.B. appearing to look like Whimpy of Popeye fame wanting to gladly pay the honorable Judge Perry Tuesday for an "exception" today. Last but not least is KC sitting in her ivory tower like Rapunzel (she may want to rethink that ponytail if & when she is incarcerated) waiting for someone to rescue her. Then there is CA still trying to man the helm in her red captains outfit! They still persist at wanting a nautical theme! The ship is sinking but she looks good! No Oscar's today!

Respectfully Quoted kageykaren :cool2:
BBM

:floorlaugh: at the bolded remark. :)

As far as ICA and her hair, I think it is a protest to her incarceration. I think you using Rapunzel as a reference is perfectly apt. There is a movie out now, a children's cartoon called: Tangled. That is a good description for ICA mind.

imho. :twocents:

Judge Perry also said that these civil attorneys could, and WOULD go after them for all of the states costs that have been paid out, for both sides for reimbursement.

That had to have given them a double gulp ~

I think that Judge Perry will continue to let them get into the state "kitty", because he fully anticipates that this will go to trial again, but, possibly not for the all of reasons that have thought.

When he made that announcement, he looked and spoke directly to Casey, IMO.
Giving her a little head's up, so to speak.

And, you can bet that the thought has not escaped Cindy either, and once this is over, Casey will allow visits with her parents, and, they'll be on to plan B, which is Judge Perry described today.
Again, IMO.
If there is anyway to make a buck, they'll grab it by the horns and run with it.
This may also be another reason that we haven't seen any more new pictures or videos of Caylee.
They need to keep something "banked" for the next round to get off the ground.
I had the same thought about Cindy! I bet when the Judge stated this she perked up in her chair. The $$$$$ were all adding up in her bank account already. LOL

I have a question....this blog that was mentioned. Does anyone know what blog?

I have not read even 1/4th of all the threads of this case but does the defense actually read this board?

Blue button up sweater?

Don't be too harsh on ICA, she had a big decision to make before coming to Court today- just how many buttons should she undo on her sweater....

I'm still trying to get my jaw back up off the floor at CM's disrespectful remark about trying this case twice. I can't believe he went there and openly threatened the Judge.

IIRC a mistrial was one of ICA's expectations so ... HHJP just burst her bubble by saying that he is more than happy to go again ... but be it upon the Defense's head (if engineered). HHJP already closed the 'surprise surprise' door.

Another door closes...

I'm following this thread as best I can - traveling at the speed of light...

Heaps of thanks to all contributors; there aren't enough thank you buttons in the universe...

I haven't seen anyone chime in yet, and I am wondering if there were any WSers in the court room today? I sure hope so! I'd really relish an eyewitness rehash!

IMO Baez has been conducting this case in an underhanded way...from the beginning.

Yep, especially for how long before Mason signed on? And it was Mason who was man enough to face the judge today even though he was a horse's butt when he did it. Talk about total disrespect to the judge's face! He must be retiring because I can't imagine someone who wants their career to continue to address a judge the way CM addressed HHJP.

And Baez looked like he wanted to crawl under a rock and hide today. I just can't stand people who are willing to do shenanigans with a serious case and then won't stand up before the judge and take the consequences like a man! No, he got someone else to do it, just like Casey. Why should Baez clean up his own mess?

I swear, Baez and Casey and so much alike, it's just scary!

I know we both work in this field and it ain't our first rodeo. I gotta tell ya...

I have NEVER seen an attorney address a judge as disrespectfully as CM does HHJP. He openly patronized toward Judge Strickland less than a month before he filed a motion for his recusal. And every single time I have seen him argue before HHJP he is a condescending #$!*. I can barely believe my eyes and ears. I was so happy to see Judge Perry cut him off several times....in essence saying, "I know exactly what you are doing and I have had ENOUGH I don't give a care who you are."

I have ZERO respect for that man. He is beyond full of himself. I can barely watch or listen to him.

An NBC producer talked to Baez this morning. JB acknowledged that it's not likely all 22 will be heard today.

JB said that he will push the hardest on a ruling on the motion to exclude the chloroform evidence found in Casey's trunk.

We haven't heard if the sanctions motion will come up today. Amanda Ober at the courthouse says that it sounds like the ones today will be defense motions on evidence.

BBM... A little blast from the (recent) past for everyone's enjoyment. Apparently, Baez was prepared for a VERY different hearing than the one which actually unfolded.

"And then I will get the chloroform thrown out and then I will punch JA in the nose and then Judge Perry will shower me with glitter confetti and CA will buy me a pony! I wonder if Geraldo will let me bring my pony on his boat? Hm, Judge P looks grumpy...."

Mason replying to Ashton's sanctions motion..
IMO
Mr Mason is most definitely not pleased to be hit with a Motion for sanctions, it seems to get his experienced, overly inflated, should have retired last year blood boiling

I guess he is not having FUN since he has put in in excess of 600 hours on this case...

A DP qualified lawyer should have insisted they take over the reigns and be lead counsel on this case with Baez playing 2nd chair then they may not be in the mess they are in now...

But that is just my opinion...Baez wanted to be head honcho...so he must deal with the fallout.

I think Judge Perry is very wise to JB's sneaky tactics thus the little speech
about trial by ambush. No surprises. Each side must know what the other side plans to include during trial.
JB has been side-stepping the expert witness testimony with one lame excuse after another and I am now wondering just what he might have had up his sleeve to spring on the jury. Whatever it was, he won't be needing it now because JP is on to him.
JB should have learned his lesson about ambushes when he lost the case for Nilton Diaz, now under appeal. He must think Judge Perry lives under a rock somewhere and it's offensive for me to watch his blatant disregard to the legal system. I hope he ends up disbarred!

Just had another thought....

Mason said he has invested 600 hours in this case.

He appeared as a defense member for the first time in court on March 18th, 2010.

There have been approx 40 weeks since he joined the team.

There are 168 hours in a week. Of course you have to consider weekends and evenings, but wouldn't that mean....

He has averaged only 15 hours per week on this case????

BBM
It looked like a live chat feed posted on the sidebar of one of the news sites as the last hearing was streamed live.

ETA: IIRC Fox35
