So what's with this rumour that the trial will be delayed because the judge won't release where the jury pool will come from. . . .please tell me I was dreaming.

No, you were not dreaming. I saw the clip of Judge P where he said that if the media kept going and appealed his decision that he would be forced to delay the trial. Isn't that what he said?

Sorry, but you were not dreaming ... and the appropriate word is "rumour".

My friend called me up today "panicing" about the same thing because she was watching the news and her "interpretation" from the media was that the trial may be delayed ... of course, I had to explain what was going on and why it MIGHT be delayed ...

I hope this trial starts as scheduled on May 9 ...

It is high time there is Justice for Caylee !

I'm still of the mind that he should have announced the change of venue a while back. There would have been some furor at the time as the media found something novel to talk about on the 6pm news, then it would have died down just as it has in Orlando. ICA is not headline news in Orlando, there are web pages devoted to her on OS site but they don't come looking for you- same with TV stations. If she is not on your personal radar then these cases just don't interest a huge amount of people for very long.

Do you really believe that?

I have to say, I actually did feel a tiny bit sorry for CM's wife. She made it clear in the interview how she felt.

I usually don't believe anything a defense lawyer says in a case like this but I couldn't figure out why he was saying it especially since he was the one that asked for the change of venue due to media exposure. All very strange.

CM gives me the creeps for some reason. I'm not seeing the other side of the coin on him maybe because of his flippant remarks.

Well don't forget Andrea Lyon is an ACLU darling...

Sooooo.....AL would have the connections to the ACLU to get them involved in this .......hmmmmmm.

Some interesting thoughts....

Casey Anthony Trial Judge Spotted In West Palm Beach
Judge's Visit Raises Speculation Murder Trial Jury Could Be Selected In Palm Beach County

From what was stated in these two articles it seems that Palm Beach is not the county of jury selection. The two clues I picked up on was no extra security hired for next Monday and not a larger that normal jury summons mailed out for Monday. I could be wrong, but I would think the county of jury selection would have additional security and would have sent out more summons than usual.

I agree...she put on her "happy face" for the interview, but I don't think she was too "happy."

Yes, the local news both tv and newspaper gives us daily information updates. My colleagues go to work in the morning, exercise or kids' activities in the evening, meetings and activities on the weekends. They aren't home watching the news about this trial. They keep up with local and national politics and events, but this trial is not interesting to them at all. It is probably in their brain from the coverage the same way the Magic basketball team is in my brain. I know they exist, but I don't if they are finished with their season or in competition for a title. I don't know if they are in town or out of town for their game. Same with anything you don't care about - in one ear and out the other.

This sounds like anywhere else. There are things happening locally, but unless it's something you're interested in, you aren't following what's going on in the situation.

I see no reason why a jury can't be selected from Orange County. It certainly would be easier on everyone. I would imagine that the jurors would still have to be sequestered in a local hotel as the media coverage would be difficult to avoid.

Maybe Orange County officers will be brought in, they asked for more money:

ORLANDO --
Citing big events, gas prices and technology upgrades coming in the next year, Sheriff Jerry Demings asked the Orange County Commission for an increase in its budget Tuesday.

Demings said the Casey Anthony trial will cost the Orange County Sheriff's Office $120,000. The agency is in charge of security, and will be protecting the jury.

They can know about it and even have some opinions. That isn't the issue. They have to be able to set aside any preconceived ideas and weigh the evidence presented at trial only to reach a verdict. In Modesto they had to move SP's trial because so many people in that community felt very strongly he was guilty. There is the case in NC where the defendant robbed and shot a college student they want it moved out of the state. Jurors, trial, the whole she-bang. He is caught on video at the atm and then convenience store with her cc. So...what is the word in Orlando about ICA's guilt? Is it one of those cases where people just roll their eyes and say, yeah lock her away for life.

As far as I can tell the media saturation in this case has been Nationwide. Although CM and JB like to blame the media for reporting things out of context and being the whole reason the public is assuming she is guilty, I do have to take issue with that and argue common sense prevails here. We know the media sensationalizes, reports incorrectly at times, adds their own spin, etc. For this case they didn't have to go far. Just reporting the facts in this case has been quite sufficient. CM went as far as to blame the SL and release of documents and implied the media reported inaccurately on what was contained in those docs. I can read as can most Americans. If they are interested they will read them and form their own opinions. The media hardly reported on everything in those docs. Thank God for MM.

IMO the hardest thing about seating a jury is the hardship due to the length of the trial. This is their beforehand excuse for when they lose the case.

So, the bottom line so far today is: there has been no ruling as of yet on the media appeal. Correct???

Does anyone think it might happen tomorrow. Surely the judges deciding on the appeal want to see KC hang, err...um..., "given a fair trial" as much as Judge Perry does, right?

It almost feels like the defense keeps on complaining about the media coverage, because they have to make their egos think that Casey is on the level of OJ Simpson, and their trials will be similar in terms of publicity. It is like they think if they keep screaming that this is the "biggest case since OJ" and that they are the new "dream team" people will start to believe it. This case is the biggest one going on right now, so people's perception of the media coverage gets a bit distorted. I also think that people pay more attention to national news than local news and that a lot of people are more likely to go on MSNBC/FOX/CNN's website everyday than check out their local paper's website, but maybe my personal experience is clouding my view.

I just emailed CF News 13 if they file the motion, I won't ever watch their station again. I will tell all my friends what they have done to prolong this trial and cost the tax payor's more money. Either sign the agreement or get your information elsewhere.

Quoting my own post to give CF News 13 kudos for not being a part of the motion. I wrote them back thanking them and the General Manager responded that I was most welcome.

HLN is reporting that the 3 judge hearing/ruling has come back and said that the state and the defense have until Friday 10AM to reply and answer what the media is wanting.

In essance, making the media's request a "moot point" cause the jury info will be released on Monday anyway then, if I am understanding this correctly??

Are you saying they will deliberately drag their feet on this?

Not not deliberately dragging their but if the defense and the state have until 10:00 Friday to reply then it's not unreasonable to expect that a decision won't come in until very late Friday and if the decision doesn't come in until then and they do decide in favor of the media that the paperwork would have to be rushed through to be ready for Monday. The location is going to be made public anyway so essentially it would be a win win...at least in this case.

Off topic just a bit but I have to agree with CM that Florida's sunshine laws are a be too open. Why can't they allow the public the right to know after the defendant has gone to trial? I really expect that this case will bring about at least some minor changes in the law.

I wish the media would just back off, what is a few hrs? Why would they want to delay this case any longer? Greed IMO! :maddening:

The Fifth District Court of Appeal panel is giving Chief Judge Perry, prosecutors, defense lawyers and the State Attorney General until Friday morning at 10:00am, to weigh in on the media outlet's challenge.

BILL SHEAFFER: Talks About Possible Delay http://www.wftv.com/video/27777771/index.html

VIDEO REPORT: Last Minute Legal Scramble http://www.wftv.com/video/27778363/index.html

The three Fifth District Court of Appeal judges deciding whether a media challenge will delay Casey's murder trial are Jacqueline Griffin, Kerry Evander and William Palmer.

WFTV was told they were considering the matter on Wednesday afternoon, behind closed doors. A "2 to 1" or unanimous vote carries.

If the Fifth DCA panel sides with Perry, Sheaffer said it would be based on sound reasoning.

A petition to the Florida Supreme Court would stand an even lesser chance.

WFTV was told there will be a Fifth DCA ruling. The issue will not just drop.
If there's no opinion or explanation accompanying that ruling, that would be the end of it; no Supreme Court review.

Perry also has to decide if some never-before-used scientific air test evidence will be used against Casey.

Wouldn't it be a hoot if HHJP actually chose Orange County, and took the defense into the jury room at the last hearing and told them that because they were using the media too much and then complaining that KC could't get a fair trial because of the media, that he had decided not to go anywhere?!!! :floorlaugh: Just my wishful thinking! :innocent:

Just heard that the defense filed a notice asking for more time to respond to this motion. Obvsioulsy seting up for appeal issues, since more than likely the judge will go forward with the trial before the ruling by the appeals court.

I AM SO MAD AT THE MEDIA FOR GIVING THE DT MORE APPEAL ISSUES!!!!!!

If I was not obsessed with this case, I would boycott them all!!!
