Afternoon Break--
<snip>
Can't get a good read on GG (Glamour Gal). She's stand-offish to everyone except GW.
I'm beginning to wonder if she believes ja's story. She checks her make-up while in the courtroom. :)

ja and Mit. Spec. are matchy-matchy today with their maroon red blouses. Guess Wilmott didn't get the wardrobe memo. :)

There's a person I fee is "trouble". She's been attending the past 2 days. Others have had concerns as well. In my notes I write: *advertiser censored* staring at me, she's a mean one, ja's sista.
Mit Spec comes over and speaks to ja's mother during the side bar. ja looks straight ahead, never towards her mother.
I notice the people who complained about where they were seated after lunch are sitting towards the front after the break. My thoughts, this is not a sporting event, it's a serious murder trial, be respectful of that.
<snip>
Ladies to my right are giggling and shaking their heads at ja's testimony. I wonder if they've already been afflicted with Pseudo Bulbar Affect (PBA) . :)

It's easy enough to identify Gypsy Woman (GW) by her leopard print costumes outfits, but is the Glamour Girl (GG) the young dark-haired lady (appears about 20 yrs. old) chewing gum and wearing a blouse that bared her shoulders (morning session)? Or is she someone different, which you referred to as "*advertiser censored*" and "JA's sista" -- aka the person you feel is "trouble"?

New term that applies to many: Pseudo Bulbar Affect (PBA). :rocker:

I read at another site that they were used to track speed, location, and whether they were driven accross state lines. It said the info is downloaded after the car is returned. They are especially interested if a car has a lot of unexplained miles on it, or is returned with damage. Wonder if the missing floor mats and excessive mileage threw up a red flag at Budget?

Wouldn't that be a find? You could show precisely where she went as she tossed and destroyed evidence!

It would be really interesting if these chips also log start and stop GPS locations, which could lead the State to where the gun and knife (and rope, if you believe there was one) were dumped. I'm an IT person and IMO it would be very simple to program the collection of minute bits of data like that. Walking in with that gun in rebuttal would truly be a Perry Mason Moment! :great:

That would be the icing on the cake! I'd settle for a pile of ashes with a melted glob of "gas can plastic" found on a side road where the tracker shows her stopped. (there is something up with that third gas can)

You know it!

Was there any discussion at happy hour regarding the bank statement? Considering it is for the period of June 1st-30th, 2008, I am very curious and wondering if anyone else is also curious that she had a Priceline purchase ($246.99) and Sacramento Airport purchase ($28.00)? This occurred before her mom rented the blue cobalt she was using to flee the law in July when she was arrested. Any ideas? Could she had been planning on driving or getting a ride to Sacramento to leave the country?

So many parts of her "stories" do not make sense but if I remember correctly, she told Det. Flores that she was having to turn in her Infinity for non-payment (and testified that after blowing up the BMW, she towed it on the back of the rental truck back to Yreka), why would someone who is strapped for money rent a car and not use the "free" car. It's not like she would be worried about putting miles on it or anything, unless she was worried it could be recognized?

Regarding the priceline purchase, a lot of us believe that is the plane ticket she purchased to attend Travis' memorial service.

I thought about that as well, but didn't she claim the reason she didn't attend was car trouble on the way?

I think maybe you meant the suicide letters?

It must be, but I can't remember any of the details other than writing Nurmi trying to get letters in during a sidebar.

I didn't add it to my post because I can't remember any of the details. I'm
drawing a blank. Hopefully, something will come back to me. LOL!

I believe you were probably referring to the suicide letter(s?) she wrote to her grandmother(?)
I don't think they were allowed in.

It must be the suicide letters. I don't think I heard if they were admitted.

Thank you for letting me know they probably were not. Hopefully, we can find out next week if not before.

I would love an answer to this question...

I am a few pages behind... so I apologize if it is answered before I reach this point...

However... It would give me a small bit of sympathy for Nurmi if it was not his choice to take on this trial..

JMO

There were two attorneys on the case, Nurmi and Victoria Washington asked to be removed. Washington's request was granted, Nurmi's denied.

Here's an article (by our own David Lohr) regarding Washingtons withdrawl.
I'm still looking for documentation re: Nurmi.

Another article where Nurmi and Washington defended a death penalty case.

Here is documentation re: Nurmi's withdrawl.

Time for more court notes. :)

Oh no!! JA's dreaded fog has descended on PASA! Be careful out there, WS court reporters!!

I am so glad to hear you say that! On a different site I said the trial was over after that question and her answer. She turned to the jurors and said, in the same calm voice she's used all along, "Considering that I returned it, that would surprise me." Actually she said it twice using the exact same words.

I bet when jurors are interviewed after the trial, they'll say that moment sent chills up their spines. They knew at that point they were looking into the eyes of a monster.

I'm interested to see if future reports from the courtroom say the jurors seem to have lost interest, as I expect they have heard all they need to hear. Anything else - especially from Arias/Nurmi/Wilmott - is a waste of time.

P.S. This was my first post here after lurking a while. Thanks for all you do.

Welcome to Websleuths! :welcome6:

Yes, she did answer the question, but to be honest I barely heard it. We were so excited about the "gotcha" moment. I think I can speak for most of us in the courtroom.

I don't think the jurors have lost interest in the case, but I do feel they are on to her and tired of days and days of lies and B.S.

IMHO, MOO. :)

Welcome bsk! Love this site and these people. Have actually been on here since Scott Peterson's trial and KCL was one of my heroes.

PASA, How are the Courtroom personnel? The Clerk's, Bailiffs and Deputies. I know from experience how close they all become and how observant they are of regular Court Watchers. When I was a Bailiff we had a group of Court watchers that were retired and came to Court everyday to observe. Sometimes attorneys would even ask for their opinion about how things were going and about what they thought about certain witnesses, etc. Is there that type of relationship happening in this Court?

Also usually the Prosecutor and their staff would take very good care of the victim or their families. Ie, warning them when something graphic was about to be shown and making sure they were not harassed by the defendant or their family. Is that going on too?? Just curious and thank you for being our eyes and ears on the inside!

First let me say KCL is pretty danged awesome. :)

The balliffs keep to themselves. One sits between ja's seat at the defense table and the door she goes out of. I assume it's to a holding cell and, where she's taken to the basement to be transported back to jail.

I've been asked several times by people in the hall if ja will come out and will we see her. I tell them she never comes out to the public area. She is taken to a private area and transported back to jail out of view of the public.
Personally, I wouldn't want her out with the public, she's dangerous. MOO

The first time I attended there were two retired ladies who were BFFs and they attend trials. I haven't seen them back at the ja trial since it got so difficult to get in. They may be attending another trial on a different floor.

I haven't seen that type of relationship between any attorneys and people in the gallery. The only people asking for opinions or interviews from the people in the gallery is the media.

I say "hi" and "thank you" to people who work in the court when I interact. But that's basically going in and out of the courtroom when we're escorted inside.
Sheriff's deputies escort the jury out of the courtroom and down the elevators. One leads, the other is at the end of the group.

It's a controlled environment, especially with such a high-profile case.

Forgot to add: Yes, I think the prosecutor is taking good care of the victim's family. The way he interacts with them (what little I've seen) has been very caring and respectful. I'm not privy to what is discussed, but I believe if something awful was going to be shown he gives them a heads up.
There is also a private room where the victim's family can go so they don't interact with the public of defendants family.
It's a newer courthouse, and it's very modern and well thought out. MOO

HTH

If you have any other questions, shoot. I'll do my best to answer.

well, it is your fog. :floorlaugh: Thanks for all the great details. Lovin' the Nancy and Starbucks moments. You rock, Pasa!

Thank you PASA! Good info. The Courtroom I worked in had a holding cell just off the side of the Courtroom. It looked like a regular door but had a cell in it that the Deputies would lock the D in and that is where the D would eat lunch and sit when not in Court. At the end of the day they would transport the D back to the jail. The holding cell also had a private elevator so the D did not have to ever be out in public. Very contained.
Have you or KCL ever engaged in any conversation with the D's family? Is her father still in the picture? The way the Mother and Aunt laugh during the feed I watch seems so inappropriate and if seen by Juror's I would think it would not bode well for the D. JMO. Do you see any of that??
On the opposite side I think TA's family is very reserved. Thank you!

Katiecoolady: Thank you so much for your post letting us all know that even if we do a small thing like pray for Travis' family, it matters. Sometimes I feel like an intruder or outsider by watching the trial and caring about the outcome. I worry that I am just getting enjoyment out of the prosecutor's talents getting the truth out of Jodi Arias and not really knowing how deeply deeply painful having a family member murdered feels.

I do care so much for the family in Travis' case--there is just something so bright and shining about Travis' many videos--he truly was a light in this world. I pray for a conviction so that justice will be served and his family can move on to another level of healing & they won't be so tied up with Jodi Arias.

God bless you & the caring and loving service you bring to these proceedings, KCL! I have a different calling--3 young children, 1 special needs--but I do still feel a connection to crime victims like Travis & I pray for them.

I guess it's natural that I have a super crush on Juan Martinez, I told my husband (also a Martinez!) & he said he doesn't mind since he and Juan are cousins (joke). Keep up the updates and your feelings & observations--and also don't forget the girls who are Juan-admirers!
