Thats actually what they do in Canada, no camera's allowed in the courtroom so they draw caricatures of the people in court to show in the media. :great:

They also do the caricatures of players in the courtroom during trials that aren't televised.
The Scott Peterson trial is one I recall offhand where cameras were not allowed in.

I believe defense (in JA trial) asked that cameras not be allowed, but were denied.

Just wanted to say thank you to Katiecoolady, Anita Richman (I do too!) and PASA for bringing us into the courtroom with you. I really liked the rundown of the jury. Anita, I am sorry I missed you on Dr. Drew. Thanks for sharing about your interaction with Aaron. I feel so badly for anyone who was taken in by the killer. I look forward to all future posts too. I am also a fan of Beth Karas and love hearing about interactions with her.

I simply cannot stop thinking about Travis and his family. It is truly heartbreaking. I am so glad that they have such an advocate in Juan and that they are surrounded by people in court who are supporting them. I interacted via email with one of Travis' siblings after responding to something on facebook and they know that there are so many of us out here praying for strength for them and justice for Travis. I am so glad that they have physical proof by all of you going to court too.

While I'm not a fan of the defense team, that was very, very kind of you to post this about Nurmi. I realize he's doing a job that's been assigned to him, which I tend to forget, and your very nice post reminded me that he is human and has feelings too... thank you!

I appreciated that post as well. I am sensitive to that issue because my dad was a defense attorney and a very good one. But he was also a wonderful person, a great father, and had a lot of integrity. He believed in the justice system, which relies upon defense attorneys to keep things running fairly.

He SAVED many innocent people from false accusations and from overzealous charges etc. At the time also, working in the California Bay Area, he worked hard for defendants that he thought were charged with bogus charges, such as marijuana penalties and sex crimes which involved gay rights. But at the same time, he did also have many guilty clients, and he had to represent them zealously as well. [ He did not represent child molesters however. He referred them elsewhere.]

Anyway, I think it is important to keep in mind that he is just doing his job, and he is in a thankless position but the job has to be done.

I'm sorry about that, poor kiddo. I hope you didn't feel like my "odd" comment was making fun of her.

I wondered about Asperger's, too. It's impressive to me that if she has Asperger's that she's making it through law school. Not a walk in the park, imo.

Some think that... Abraham Lincoln, Albert Einstein, Alexander Graham Bell, Carl Jung Benjamin Franklin, Bobby Fischer, Carl Jung, Emily Dickinson, Daryl Hannah,Henry Ford,

It doesn't have anything to do with intelligence.

Think back to the odd, quirky, kids in school. If you watch The Big Bang, Sheldon stand out as one. My grandson is a mini Sheldon Cooper.

He is soooo freaking handsome! (Which you already knew.) He's got so much energy in that body/mind. I saw him get off the elevators in the morning and literally a collective "ahhh" went out from the (mostly) female spectators. Sort of like he was a Beatle! :floorlaugh:

I'll think about it, and post more if they come to mind!

I'm telling you, there is nothing more attractive then an extremely intelligent man who also has a heart for social justice. Juan Martinez is definitely such a man. I LOVE Michael Moore and told my husband the other night I could be in love with someone like him... my husband looked at me kind of funny and said "Seriously?"... and I said YES! It is the heart and mind for me- it really is. My husband just happens to be handsome.

I love Sheldon.

Anita or Katie: I'm sure Juan Martinez needs no help, but I came across this pic of Jodi's sister wearing a 'Little Red Riding Hood' costume that really strains credulity of just being a coincidence that Travis was into this look independently. I thought I'd pass it along--probably someone here has already done so (or the prosecution already has it). I'm sure Jodi took the picture.

Wow. How random is that. I bet Jodi was the Big Bad Wolf in the background!

Janine Driver responded to me on Facebook!

I'm just nerdy enough to copy and paste it over here too...this is for you Anita:

  • Janine Driver Kathy Monkman!! Thank your friend for asking that question, it was a good question and I was happy to answer. If I wasn't so crazy busy traveling doing speaking engagements right now I'd come to Arizona and love to sit in the courtroom. Looking at my schedule for the next couple weeks right now.

And isn't her ex$pert defender Alyce Laviolette also in to this fairytale as a metaphor for domestic violence? Or is that another one? Rapunzel maybe?

It really is a shame, as she's doing a dis-service to those who are truly DV victims and survivors.
MOO

Snow White last week, Rapunzel next?? :-)

That is a bombshell! Awesome, Go Katie Go!!

Thanks so much to those who've written about their observations in the courtroom. It's informative AND entertaining! :tyou:
I got a BIG chuckle reading the description of the pot-smoking CPA. I showed it to my DH and said "ya wanna?". I was kidding of course. :skip:
I THINK I know who Katie was talking about...the courtroom employee who has posted on WS but I wish I knew for sure so I could mess with their head a bit. :yesss:

Oh I forgot one thing. After we had our own private viewing of "The Beth Karas Show" in the trailer during Dr. Drew, she was so vehement about her perception that Martinez had done a GREAT job with his first day of cross she said "I'm hosting In Session tomorrow, maybe I'll interview myself".

So cute.

Ok, so I am going on Monday. Katiecoolady and Pasa- will you be there? Is it ok to approach you if I spot you? I will change my avatar so that you know me.

Thanks!

Anybody else going? AzLawyer? I will buy you a frappacino!

It was Snow White and all those dwarfs.

I wonder what the jurors would think of the many coincidences in Jodi's stories that are found in movies and songs. Maybe someone could point Juan in the direction of some of these.

I'm going all day Monday. I will send you my pic..definitely approach me. Let's do lunch! Although it's tricky as the public have to kind of hold their seats...better yet you probably need to bring a sack lunch so you can make sure you get in in the afternoon which is where the bulk of testimony happens. I'll find you. :) Awesome!

For whomever has not see "our" Katiecool - here is the video. She is the one NOT named Katie! LOL
Dr. Drew Jurors 2/04/2013 - YouTube

Anita - is your Dr. Drew uploaded? Do you want it uploaded if not? If so, let me know and I have it and can upload it!

Both of :yourock:'ed your Dr. Drew jury segments!

Edit - sorry if anyone feels this is off topic!

THANK YOU, Anita & Katie, for your priceless insights into what's going on in the court room.

I need more Juan. I'm completely in love with him (I haven't broken it to my 3 babies under 5 and my DH of 12 years yet :floorlaugh:) But seriously--Juan is the man.

I'm just in awe of his style--he knows this case inside and out, he's prepared for anything, has no other lawyer there helping--and he's articulate, concise, professional (attn: Nurmi) and since I'm a trial and law junkie, I just can't get enough of him. I'm so glad he's going to put this monster on death row. I am so angry that she actually pulled that pedophile nonsense. I can't even imagine how that family feels.

Anyhoo--keep up the great work & let's have a Juan-update a couple times a day!

When people disparage Mr. Martinez, I always think back to the exchange he had with (Gus Searcy?) in which Mr. Martinez said something along the lines of "NOTHING in this trial is for my pleasure" (that doesn't sound right, but somebody will recall what I'm referring to). His strong passionate feelings about prosecuting this case came through in his words. He is a champion! :moo:
