Please forgive me. I have just now noticed this case, which is incredibly interesting. I have tried to catch up, but there are well over 1500 posts, and I even tried to read all the fact pages. I really did! But...what are the *facts* in this case that would make it impossible that Brittney used her own gun to shoot her uncle and then disappear of her own accord? I hope this is not against TOS somehow. I can't get a grip on the timeline of her disappearance vs. uncle's death. Please don't throw rotten vegetables at me.

I'll give you a few points to consider:
1.) Assuming her primary goal is to disappear, BW attacking her uncle would create major complications that would conflict with that goal. The logical play would be just to disappear. But assuming your scenario, let's say she faces immediate mortal threat (that she can anticipate). She is cornered, must act and controls the situation by shooting DH. Her safest...almost instinctive...move then is to ride the wave until authorities come, even make the call - reach that trajectory, expose the ring immediately and get under LE protection. If it's that far out of control, it's time to run...to the cops! DH was discovered relatively quickly - medical response reached him before death, and he died in a hospital: http://blog.al.com/live/2012/07/brittney_wood_questions_keep_p.html. That also totally leaves aside forensics: fingerprints, ballistics, motive for leaving the weapon at the scene in a post-shooting escape, evidence of flight.

2.) The inference around "now". Assume for sake of discussion problems with idea of BW's criminal culpability as just discussed (which would be a sensible...but not ironclad sensible...reason for firm silence), but leave fleeing on the table. BW would now have major motivation to re-emerge, esp. once the ring was exposed and members jailed. The threat to her is significantly reduced, and she could protect herself by providing evidence to expand and complete "ring coverage". Keep in mind other victims have provided evidence, which undermines a counterargument it's too dangerous to do so. Another motivation for re-emerging would be multiple avenues of support she could receive for her involvement and the outcome - I won't detail them, but it's not hard to contemplate what they are. Simultaneously, odds are also good that staying hidden without support is arduous.

There's a number of possibilities, especially in the location because there are a number of missing people in the area and the person could just be homeless because Prichard is such a poor area.

There are people that think the body in the creek is a local missing man. I'm always hopeful every time it happens too. Guess we will see in 2 days.

Trial day 2 for Mendy Kent today. She refused a plea again and so the Victim will likely have to testify against her.

Jury Find Mendy Kent Guilty Of Second Degree Sodomy and Sexual Abuse

The aunt of missing teen Brittany Wood who was allegedly involved in a family sex ring in Mobile has been found guilty by a Mobile Circuit Court jury. Mendy Kent, the aunt of Brittany Wood, was found guilty of second-degree sodomy and sex abuse. The jury heard from four witnesses on Tuesday morning, including the victim.

PLEA AGREEMENT PROPOSED
After a jury was seated, Patterson offered the defense a plea agreement, dropping the sex abuse charge, with Kent pleading guilty to the sodomy charge. But, Judge Rick Stout would decide punishment of between two to twenty years in prison.

Fox Ten News asked Defense Attorney John Grow about the offer, but he said he couldn’t comment. After lunch break, Grow told Judge Stout that Kent would go ahead with the trial.

But Patterson said it was 45-year-old Randall "Scott" Wood who got the investigation rolling.

Wood, in 2012, had been accused of several sex crimes. Rather than stay silent, he opened up to tell of sex crimes being committed by others.

According to Patterson, Wood was in love with a girl who was being sexually abused. He began talking to law-enforcement officers about what was going on.

Said Patterson, "A report was made to DHR that the child was being abused by family members. When Baldwin County DHR began the investigation, they kept finding more and more layers off the onion."

Mack expects that Brittney Wood is dead. Early in the search for her, he said, law officers held out "the possibility she was alive."

"All of those leads which could be followed up on have been to date," Mack said. "It is our belief she is deceased and her body has been concealed."

He said in a statement, "Closure will only come when Ms. Wood's killer (or killers) are indicted and Ms. Woods' body is located."

I know that it's quite normal and common to allow sentences run concurrently, but I always feel cheated by it. It's like it's OK to commit several crimes in several jurisdictions because one will be punished for only one of them. They just have to serve the longest one of the sentences and that's it. I'm especially annoyed when the crimes were committed against children. (Just thinking out loud)

"The 17 years issued on Thursday will run concurrently with the sentence issued in Mobile County."

Seventeen years just isn't enough of a sentence time, IMO. He'll be out and a danger to the next batch of young children.

That excuse that despite coming from a good family he married into a family from hell doesn't sound like he's taken full responsibility for his own actions.

This part of the quote from his defense attorney I will share using my sarcastic tone of voice -- "But I think he also understands there’s probably no amount of grace, at least on this earth that will, that will redeem him,” Beck said."

All I can say is let's hope he never gets his hands on another young child again.
