Stepfather of missing children speaks
Jonah Heathcock tries to stay optimistic

MOBILE, Ala. - After hours of searching, police still have not found the bodies of three-year-old Johnathan DeBlase and his four-year-old sister Natalie.

Friday, their father, John DeBlase was arrested and told police the children are buried within a 100- mile radius of Mobile. Even after this news, their birth
mother and stepfather are trying to stay optimistic.

On November 19, police began searching for the missing children. Two weeks later, John DeBlase and his wife were arrested.

"My hope actually went up a notch with them having him," Corrine Heathcock, the children's mother told Fox 10 News earlier this week.

Not long after the interview, Heathcock and her husband Jonah Heathcock got some shocking news. DeBlase revealed to police that Jonathan and Natalie were dead.

DeBlase and Keaton have both accused each other of killing the children — but they do agree on at least the location of one of the children’s bodies, investigators told the Mobile Press-Register.

They also suspect that John Deblase threw one of their bodies on the side of the road.

"From what we understand, the father was going to bury the child about six months ago. He had a shovel and everything, but the ground was too hard. He's not real sure where. Whether he’s telling us the truth or not, we just don't know," Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd told the Press-Register.

Mobile Police Department spokesman Christopher Levy said officers searched Sunday in an area west of Citronelle in mostly rural northwest Mobile County and found no sign of 5-year-old Natalie DeBlase or 3-year-old Chase DeBlase.

It is believed Deblase told police he could not bury the boy because the ground was too hard to dig a suitable hole.He may have thrown the boy out of the car and onto the side of a road.

The story is gaining national attention for it's depravity and the shock of yet another parent killing their own children

Wow Saturday N of Vancleave and Sunday W of Citronelle. I thought the 100 mile radius was to cut down on civilians interfering in the search, but now it looks like he really did give them a 100 mile radius to search in. This is discouraging news.

From earlier info today it sounds like the children were killed at different times & dumped in different places.

If this is true, this is going to make my kettle boil over - and I am at full steam at this junction.
I can't imagine what the child felt when their sibling didn't return, all the questions.
This is a f'ing nightmare.

Levy said the most disheartening fact is that friends and family members are now coming forward saying they suspected DeBlase was abusing the children.

"Where were they a year ago when these children needed some protection?" Levy asked. "Why didn't some report it to police?"

When contacted today, family members declined to comment.

(CNN) -- Police in Mobile, Alabama, said Sunday they are "actively searching" for the bodies of two young children believed killed by their father and stepmother.

Authorities began investigating a missing persons report on Jonathan DeBlase, 3, and his older sister Natalie, 4, on November 19. However, the children have not been seen since late June, said Officer Christopher Levy, spokesman for Mobile police.

lots more here -- especially for those just catching up

My heart breaks for these children.. especially them, if the reports of them being beat by a belt are true. It's not that I don't feel bad for all children killed.. like the Skelton boys.. they seemed to have had a happy childhood, they were loved and I betcha they knew it. These poor babies.. I sit here crying.. wondering how many days of love and kindness they knew......

The word 'dumped' makes me want to vomit. I just can't comprehend how ANYONE can just dump a body...let alone a parent doing it to their child.

Police soon discovered that John DeBlase was not the only one who had been reported as abusive.

"We have all of these people coming forward and making claims that they saw the kids getting abused at this time, or this time, but no one has really come forward with this before now," Levy added.

Officer Levy said these claims are the basis of Leavell-Keaton's arrest.

"In the charges against Heather Keaton, a lot of that is going to be based on people seeing her strike the kids with objects and that they had some injuries that probably deserved medical attention that they never received."

So when did LE know the chiildren was mssing:waitasec:

LE knew the children were missing when the ex SM's father went to them at the end of November as far as I can gather. The March date is when someone close the the family, maybe the biomom, last saw the children. As the investigation started it was found that one of the children was last seen at the end of July while they were moving from Mobile ... which sadly, makes sense with this new information that the kids were killed at different times with the boy possibly being in June. Hope that helps.

i just read this story this morning....wth is wrong with people?...i'm just sick!!!!
